  1. Well... I was scheduled for 2/6/12 with the surgery group that all the bad publicity came out on TV. Even the maker of the LapBand won't sell it to that group anymore. So I got all of my records from them and went to Dr. Krahn. I am now scheduled for February 29th, leap year day! LOL So after losing a total of 20lbs. on the first pre-op diet, I have started the pre-op diet all over again today, since my surgery will be in two weeks. At least I got one week off between the two diets! I can't wait to get this done and get this weight off once and for al!!

Sounds like you went what I went through. We need to count our blessings, I the the choice of your dr or dr coon, I chose to go to Dr. Coon. I am schedualed for the 24th....Good LUCK!!!

  2. I just got a call today from my family physician and all the pre-op test results are in and she faxed them over to the bariatric surgeon's office. Should be hearing soon when I will be scheduled. I've already stopped taking baby aspirin and started the pre-op diet that he told me about when I met him a few weeks ago. Excited, anxious, and a little bit scared. Wondering what it will be like to give up some foods and old habits. But then I started making a list of things I won't miss, like:

Buying clothes in the big woman section

Buying clothes because they fit; not because of style.

Not being embarrassed in public, esp. at the beach or pool.

Not having any dresses that fit.

Not looking in the mirror and wondering "Who the heck is that fat woman?"

Being the fat sibling in the family.

Wearing capri pants in the hot summer because I'm embarrassed to wear shorts.

I could go on and on. Do you have anything you won't miss?

    Debbie

    s

What a wonderful way to look at a new life!

I wont miss worrying about having clothes to fit me, because I keep getting larger.

I wont miss looking at pictures of my self and crying.

I wont miss avoiding the camera and being out of most of the holiday family pictures.

and there are so many others.

    Thank you for this insight.

  3. Was banded on Thursday, the 9th up in Frankfurt, Germany by Prof. Weiner. I was admitted on Wednesday for all the pre-op testing - blood work, EKG and endoscopy. We arrived around 0930 and had the b/w and EKG done right away and then sat in the lobby for about an hour or so. I knew I hadn't had enough to drink the day prior and after the blood draw was feeling light headed. Told hubby I wasn't feeling well so he got me a glass of Water. Took a few sips... room got fuzzy and upchucked the Water right back up all over the lobby floor. Priceless. LOL.

Was put on a gurney and rolled into a room where they gave me some fluids and let me lie down til the anesthesiologist came to talk to me. Then more waiting. By 2:30pm I was finally wheeled into the endoscopy which was pretty easy since they knocked me right out. Spent the night in my room and was the first surgery of the day on Thursday at 8am.

Was out of recovery by 1030, but I remember absolutely nothing about being in recovery. I remember waking up just as they put me in my room, where my hubby was waiting. I was sore but not in too much pain since they had pain meds in my iv drip. Slept most of the day, minus one trip to the bathroom. In Germany, they keep you 2 nights for observation post op. The next day was pretty painful. Lots of gas, and lots of pain where the drain was located. The other incisions were just really sore, like someone made me do 1000 sit-ups while I was out. That night they gave me morphine so I could sleep so that was nice.

Yesterday (Saturday) they were able to release me to go home. Was given some Soup for Breakfast and peppermint tea. Figured very quickly what my "sign" is for when I either take to large of a sip or take them too close together - I get wicked, painful hiccups! Worst part of the day was the three hour drive back to where we live. Came home and slept but then was able to eat a popsicle, get in some water and for dinner had about 2 tablespoons of german yogurt over about an hour time frame. Still hurts to get up or down from either my bed or the couch and sleeping is still a bit uncomfortable, but not enough to take anything for it. The gas seems to all be trapped behind my rib cage.

Am not really hungry at all, and the post-op diet is not an issue. The liquid/full liquid diet is awesome for now since the German docs include yogurt and cream Soups as part of it. Though, I have to stay on this for four weeks before I can eat mushy foods.

When I started the pre-op diet I was 295. At the time of surgery I was 284. When I left the hospital yesterday I was 280. This afternoon when I weighed at home, I'm now at 274. Great motivation to keep it going. And am feeling great, spirit wise!

Just wish I still wasn't so sore at the drain/port site.

I am so glad to hear you are doing well. I am being banded on the 24th! I am excited and scared. But I am sure all will be fine. How are you doing now? are you on the soft food diet?

  4. yes, i certainly will keep you posted. im online checking on everyones progress and my appointment is wednesday week. im not sure how long after that i will have the surgery. i want to get it over and done with as soon as possible as winter is coming and its hard on us. I want to feel confident about my diet when winter is truly here ... thats goign to be the litmus test for me. I did ask somewhere, not sure if it was here though. i need to buy an appliance that will puree and also juice. Does anyone have any ideas on what i can buy?? i have no idea at the moment... i think i would want the appliance to do both. What do the rest of you use? judych

I have a vitamix, and I LOVE IT!!!! They are a little pricey but they they last and are amazing!!! this will even blend up the seads in strawberries! My smoothies are not full of seeds, and I still get the amazing nutriance the seeds offer.

  5. Hey Sophie, I've started my pre op on 2-16 and I must say the first three days was not that easy. I had a really bad headache, but now no headache. Now I'm trying to figure out the difference between me being hungry or my addiction getting the best of me(help). Overall it does get easier as the days go on, and keeping busy helps. I have my surgery 3-1, I just keep thinking I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my surgery. Good luck smile.png

I agree, the first 3 days seem to be the hardest, I wanted to cheat so badly and all I could think about is what I could be eating, but then I started thinking about what I could mess up and all the work I did to get here and I said NO MORE food thoughts just think about the good that is going to come,,, seems to be the only thing that has helped me as well....good luck!

  6. My surgery is the 27th. I am on day 2 of the pre-op liquid diet. This is to shrink my liver which hopefully will make it easier for my surgeon to get to my stomach.

I planned out my whole week on the diet. I also made a list of things to do to distract me. I got out my crochet hooks and projects.I pre-cooked and froze family meals for this week . I have all my Water bottles filled and waiting in the fridge. I have a bunch of cleaning projects to keep me occupied. Also washing and car appointments.

It is easier on my work days.

I am now cleaning out my closets and preparing clothing to donate. It is a very cathartic experience!

Wow you are really prepaired, i wish I was...lol. It would of made things so much easier. Good Luck and keep us posted. I hope to have an update for all of you on sat.

  7. Hi Sophie and everyone. ive just joined the forum and really pleased to see that there is one where everyone can share.

Im inbetween my referring dr and specialist. i have an appointment for march 7th to see my specialist.

im currently online a lot reading up on material, watching youtube videos send in by others who have had the surgery and im getting a really good idea of what its all about.

my issues arent completely about weight, although im overweight by about 6 stone. my main issues are multiple surgeries for joint problems and replacements due to arthritis. now its my feet and my knees have both had replacements. my hips are locking at times as well so losing weight is the only way to go it seems. Ive also got high blood pressure.

im a bit scared.I can see that its definately a life changing surgery. ive always loved my food, like everyone here i guess, andi can see just how seriously i have to take this surgery for it to work with me.

im just reading that one has to go on a liquid diet beforehand. can someone please explain a little more about that please?? how long for?? and how soon before surgery?? im so pleased i found this forum. judych

The liquid diet depends on your body and your docotr, it depends on what is needed for surgery. I am not sure why I had to do one, I just went with the flow... Good luck! keep us posted
