  1. I've gotten the go ahead from my surgeon that I do not have to use chewable or liquid Vitamins anymore and I'm anxious to move on. I have about a month's worth left of my chewables so I have time to research and comparison shop.

I'm really interested in hearing from those of you who've had labs done already (I have not) and have good numbers.

What do you take? Would you be so kind to tell me the brand and where you get them? If you have a link to it that would be amazing!

    Thanks!

with my dr okay, i get my Vitamins at Walmart

  2. i eat when i watch TV

to me (and this is my 3 cents and my opinion only) if i am standing or watching tv or swimming the river(or watching basketball on tv..just recently my hub fed me while i was up yelling at my tarheels as i was too obsessed with ESPN--true story)...it makes no never mind to the calories..it is true, you can eat more while grazing with the TV on but if we let the WLS work and us be mindful of what we (eat), i see nothing wrong with where you eat...(eating out in public, those places have big tv screens)..do what works for YOU

  3. I became obese in my twenties. I really don't know why. So I would love to hear form the crowd, form those patients who were not obese for virtually their entire lives. What is it that caused you to become obese? Thanks for sharing. I am trying to figure out why I became obese and your answers may help me to find the answer.

what caused myself (and everyone else with a weight problem)

i eat/drank more calories than i could burn off..I blame myself. it was me that overate and drank too much (beer). and now it's ME who is making that change with assistance from my chosen WLS

  4. hi Sandee

did your doctor give you a (handout) of what you can eat during the stages of post op?

if not, please call and ask them for one

*you can eat just about anything, just make sure it is mushy as you are still healing but def get on the phone with your doctor for this info as your doctor has a specific so called eating plan for you*

  5. Great job and glad to see some new and familar faces on here. And my Tar Heel fav! ;) (Has anybody besides me noticed how UK is this year...ha!) I'm finally back to my "normal" schedule after 9 weeks of 72-75 hours per week. Spent a much needed week on vacation two weeks ago in New Orleans/Mexico. Was a great time! One of those all you can stand to drink packages...and I got my $$$ worth let me tell ya!

Decided a nice slow long run would be fun today in a breezy, 39*F weather. First longer run in a while and it felt good! Happy Monday all!

  6. I think the patient can overeat excess calories and begin to regain weight

and I also think the WLS can have issues and I also think the combination of patient and WLS surgery

can also cause weight gain back. To gain weight, we must eat more calories than we can burn off. This

is how I got super morbid obese. I wish the newer patients would not put so much (the WLS MUST work) while I

dont change a thing attitude. Some are finding that WLS is not easy and its not a miracle. It will help the person

but the person must also make changes. I know that as I am talking about myself.

  7. whatever WLS one chooses to get...i so hope it brings them better health...

as in life, results vary with everything (for whatever reason)

all we can do is the best we can with what we have

  8. well, not sure why the (small amount) but it could be why you are still healing

ok, so use Protein shakes, SF popsicles, start drinking/sipping more and def do something

to stay busy and occupy your mind away from food (reading, walking, taking hot bath, sex if you can♥, shopping etc)...you may find after a Protein shake or some cold drink, the hunger may be just a way of saying you are thirsty...but ask your doctor about you getting in more Protein as that is your fuel and will help with hunger...

hang in there okay..hard part is over...your new life has begun

  9. the day i started my pre op was the last time i had diet soda (2 1/2 years ago)..dont miss it

i also did the Decaf during my 2 1/2 week pre op by order of my doctor.....after surgery, he said

i could start again and did the half and half type thing..still do sometimes...i had a big headache for about 4 or 5 days (detoxing) from the soda and used tylenol to aid....it does get better...i agree with the poster who said its mind over matter...i wanted to have WLS to help me lose weight and i did what i had to do to make it happen...i lived on diet soda...but it was something *along with all carbonation* that i had to do..

you can do it..it is hard but it is doable..

    good luck to you

  10. I want to do some working out everyday but always decide to stay in my bed. I know it is bad for me to be sedentary and inactive but yet everyday I decided to stay in bed. Becoming immobile, picturing my family blaming themselves for my death by obesity, developing a stroke or heart disease, or even ending up in a hospital bed does not motivate me. I have dreams, goals and even reasons for why I want lose weight but they are not strong enough to reach me and get me self motivated to get out of bed everyday and workout at least 30 minutes a day. I can't even motivate myself to do at least 5 minutes of exercise everyday. Not even rewarding myself motivates me. Nothing motivates me. How am I suppose to exercise when the drive to just lay in bed and watch tv is more overwhelming that I succumb to it every time.

when i had my surgery, i was so large i could hardly walk...walking to the bathroom was nearly impossible.

i could not do anything.when i was at home, i marched in placed..2 minutes and i thought i was having a heart attack....at work, when i went to the bathroom, it was 84 steps one way. that was my exercise for about 6 months..i was so heavy, i could not do anything...the more i lost (due to me not being able to eat much) helped build my confidence..i started walking to the end of my driveway and back. thats it..and then i walked to the corner of the street...you dont have to run a marathon to lose weight..you just need to get your mind straight..so we have a weight problem..OK, we had WLS to help us..now we just have to help ourselves..somedays i dont wanna do anything but eat potato chips...my motivation is looking at my highest weight ever picture..and it was a 5x stretch skirt...i do not want to be that ever again..its either do or not...so you dont want to work out today....dont....just be careful with your calorie intake then...if you eat more calories than you burn off, you wont lose and may gain....so its vice versa....like @@finediva said...take a walk...walk down the hall and back........GREAT JOB if you do that...you can..yes you can....if you wanted to

  11. thanks for posting this B

i have noticed even though i have (made my search for lap band)

i see many sleeve/bypass threads on my view

could be a reason some of us banders dont post as much...

esp since we are the (outcasts and no one is having band surgeries anymore..)

  12. it is going to be a long/hard day at work

some issues with compliance on the people i manage

i hate pressures sometimes. i like things just to fall into place

AND not to mention mother nature is packing a wallop on me (you ladies know what i refer too here)

being pre meno, it comes when it wants to and well, she is making herself known to me...

  13. Hi everyone!!!

So while I'm out of work until Dec 11th surgery, I have a lot of time to plan and get myself and hubby prepared for post surgery. One thing I'm getting ready for next week (Friday I start pre-op diet) is the shopping list!

I'm trying to make sure I do not forget a single thing - so I need your help. What did you make sure you had for pre-op/post-op diets? What did you need definitely in the hospital that you couldn't do without for the 2 days?

SF popsicles and a Blender Bottle for mixing the Protein shakes (this is what i could not live without)

at the hospital, def bring chap stick and easy on and easy off clothes

  14. read up on the surgeries (all of them) to see what would be a good fit for you...remember any WLS works and none are better than the other no matter what anyone says.....WLS is a complete life (lifestyle) change and for best results, always do what the dr who operates on you advises..

unless you decide to eat better, exercise, no WLS will help.......people get one surgery, it dont work for them and off they go to another one......the person looking at oneself in the mirror is a HUGE reason a WLS can work or not work.......(granted some complication can and does happen on any WLS) but those are small risks in my opinion to gain a longer life.

so if you want to be healthy and get healthy

do it....but expect to do some work...

  15. i have tricare prime north

at the time of my surgery, tricare did not cover the sleeve

i was too scared to have the bypass (being super morbid obese and still vain)

and went with the lapband and plication...no issues for me

but my dr told me something i tell whomever asks which surgery

no WLS will work unless the patient aids this tool of assistance and that

is changing what we eat/and begin to exercise..any WLS has good and bad and any WLS can have issues or some not at all (like i have experienced)

i wish you all the luck

go with what YOUR doctor recommends for YOUR lifestyle

and then use it as they advise for best results and with all things in life,

    results will vary.
