  1. No single type of weight loss surgery is right for everyone. Choices like the adjustable gastric band, gastric bypass, and gastric sleeve each have their pros and cons. How did you decide which surgery to get? If you haven’t had surgery yet, how are you making your decision?

    • My insurance only covers one type – read my answer below to find out which kind.
    • I was too “small” to qualify for bypass or sleeve, so the lap-band was my best option.
    • I chose the lap-band because it is adjustable; maybe I’ll become pregnant or get sick and need to eat extra food sometime in the future.
    • I got the gastric sleeve because I’m a heavier patient and this was a lower-risk choice.
    • I got the gastric bypass because of the restrictions on sugary foods.
    • I chose my surgery based on the complication rates and expected weight loss. See which one I chose in the discussion below!
    • I have revisional weight loss surgery. Read what happened and why I got it converted in the discussion below!
    • Other. See my choice and reasons in the discussion below!

Mark your answer, and feel free to explain it in the conversation below. We want to know what you think about the different types of weight loss surgery!

alex, as you know, i went in wanting the lap band...but my dr raised his eyes at me and my super morbid size and tried to get me to have the bypass..i was soo scared...no idea why..cutting my stomach probably.....ANYHOW, he told me about the plication and how it could help me BUT stressed (and continues to stress) that unless i help it and myself..no WLS could or would work for me

my military ins did not approve the sleeve or ds at the time so that was out...and after seeing doubt in his eyes about me wanting the band esp at my size, it spurred me on to do what i know i needed to do...to be able to wipe my butt again...my main reason (and also that was i becoming a grandmother) to have WLS...

i feel any WLS is fantastic..do/get what works best for you and your doctor...

but keep in mind any WLS can have issues...and any WLS can never

have any issues whatsoever..its not a for sure thing. its major freeking surgery. and YES it is painful at times...its not overnight and no it wont solve your (i am hungry issues) that is mainly head hunger btw (stay busy and get your mind off diet thinking)..eat if truly hungry .........BUT expect what you get out of it by what you PUT into it..

and that is all i had to say on your post alex.

    except GO HEELS

  2. @@☠carolinagirl☠ I read your blog my friend (I have them e-mailed to me) and I have to tell you that I am proud of you!! When you felt you needed support you reached out and your band was there for you! That is the BEST understanding of our surgery.

It's there not to do the work for us, but to help us get the work done :) I know your going to do great, your so good about following the rules and taking care of you and your band.

Hubs and I also went for a fill yesterday, we really needed to get the focus back on "us" and what we are trying to accomplish for ourselves. We get mighty tied up with our kids, home and work lives we often forget what our own personal goals are. This weekend was a great way to refocus all of that, and I think we are in a good place again and working on moving closer to our goals.

I have to thank you all because it's this site and all our posts and sharing that help me to stay and get focused when I lose track.

your kind words touched my heart ms lisa

you are a rock...i am glad you are friend...

  3. Recently, when I try and look at someones Surgeons profile, I get the following message. I really like to be able to see a persons doctors info.

Maybe I'm weird, but I like to know if "my surgeon says....." is coming from someone who has 1 or 31 years of "experience". Also, I like to be able to look and see if other patients of that surgeon experience similar. Why did this change? Thanks! David

This is the message....it says whomever their doctor is.

    Ooops!
Dr. Enochs does not currently have an active surgeon listing with BariatricPal!

Please click here to go back to the surgeon search directory

    .

thats right D , choose my doctor why dont you................ :o

  5. I got my nose pierced in July, and it's still healing. I'm looking at a possible surgery date in February, but I suspect it will still be healing then. Will I have to remove my nose stud for the surgery? Since it's not fully healed, I can't keep it out for more than a few hours or it will start to close up. I will if I have to, of course, but I'd prefer not to have to if I can help it.

    hey there

yes, for the surgery, all body piercings had to be removed..however

at your local piercing parlor, they sell plastic (stems) to put in that will keep

the hole open...however, i think if you remove it for a day, it should be okay..

i used the stems on all my piercings to keep open..

  6. Will I have sweetened sugary cake today or tonight know I will not since I have to work today , My family will take me out tomorrow for my B.Day healthy dinner how cool is that & Saturday some friends Will be taking me out for my dinner , I will not have cake but healthy stuff only because I have been good & my tool(band) gets upset with doughy stuff,.

  7. its true at least it is for me..

if i take in more calories than i burn off (ate or drank 3500 calories is a pound whether is lean Protein, a Protein shake, french fries, or apples) then we will not lose and can gain..this is how i got super morbid obese...def measure your loss by clothes..if you are losing inches, you are losing actual weight..DEF feed your body with food/good calories vs empty calories...

  8. I can't wait to be able to wear boots that go to my knee!!!

What do you wear now or what do you want to be able to wear one day that you couldn't wear as an overweight person?

well i wore this as a obese person and i wear it now

only i now wear it with confidence...

    tight blue jeans

    black v neck sweater

    and 6 inch high heels....

its not what we wear but how we wear it...

head up, shoulders up and work it GIRL...

my hub said when i walk with some attitude, i am sexy

and you know what...he is right..i am sexy

    we all are♥

  9. **yesterday at work**

i am pretty insecure but i do try hard to hide that..what is it called, thin skinned? i always think people are looking and laughing at me or that anyone with me is embarrassed due to my size and what i look like..

jenny, my co worker….we were talking last week about walking. my office building has a nice gym and i never go (are you nuts…..people may see me)

she came over to me and said lets go walk..and so i got up…thinking i could say my knee is hurting (which it is..rain is coming btw) and i did not have my sneakers (i took off my wedges and went barefoot) and well ran all these excuses through my mind BUT said fuck it ….and went to the nice gym and got up on the treadmill (*it had a tv*)..never seen that before :)

as nervous as i was, i tried not to let it show..i think she thinks i am more in control or self assured than i am…and trust me i am not..i am so scared of people judging me and lets face it, they do..

so there i was…up on the treadmill, walking and talking and thinking to myself..people may see me but maybe they will say if she can, so can i....

  10. Today's post is going to be EASY! Everyone should be able to do this one! Pick your partner, husband, wife, children, best friend or whoever is the closest to you and say what about them you are so thankful for! Of course you know why you are thankful for them, but writing it out will make you feel even closer to them :)

I am SO thankful for my husband because he is my very best friend. He supports me unconditionally, and walks beside me through every decision I have to make. He encourages me to reach for my dreams and backs me up without fail. He is my partner, my companion, and my lover. I love you, Bobby!

ok, i am a day late in answering

i select my hubby of 30 yrs.. I am thankful his goatee is snuggly soft ♥

  11. there is this dude on BP forum (not even had surgery) and he is tossing out (negative) lap band statistics of failure and complications…..REALLY??

Let people do what they need to do to make themselves happy.

Let them and their doctors advise them which is best (WLS wise).

    Mind your own business.

YOU do what you need to do to make yourself healthy

and let them do their thing.

    to me statistics are numbers

and so is my pants size going down

    so my WLS works…is yours?

that is what i want to say.....to those tossing out neg/untrue (or even if it is) sh**it...this is one reason i hate coming to this forum sometimes..when i login i want to see lap band people...those who had the surgery i had...i dont care what surgery one had or about to get. i dont care if the dr they have say mine sucks..its what i have..its what i have now and what i have to deal with...NOT YOU

    geesh

    ok, rant over
