    fat and muscle

this is 5 pounds of muscle and 5 pounds of fat...... in the picture,, the 5 lbs. of fat is much bulkier than the 5 lbs. of muscle, but five pounds is still five pounds. Muscle does not weigh more than fat. Fat is bulky and lumpy so if you carry an extra five pounds of fat, you'll be lumpier than with five pounds more muscle. A five pound pile of fat will take up more space (volume) than a five pound pile of muscle; but five pounds is still five pounds. **i got this info on line from weight watcers.com, prevention magazine, my persnal trainer link and many others INCHES you lose, means you are losing fat/actual weight regardless of what the scale says or does not say....sure id love to be at goal right now but the scale is not moving as fast as id like, but i am losing inches....i will take it so should you

    Confused

thanks for @@Debbie3sons to let me know i have a fellow patient who has my doctor also..i went in to have WLS and he wanted me to have the bypass due to my size..i was as wide as i am tall...and i was scared to get it and wanted the lap band...he looked at me with a yeah right, you will not lose look and that just made me more strong...and also upset me..he then told me about the plication (i band and also now called gastric band and imbrication and etc)...he told he it was a new helper to the band and that he thought it could help me but def let me know that i had to help myself first..i like knowing the results i have (are) maybe making the plication and lap band more successful..truth be told any WLS can help and any WLS cannot help..i feel it is a lot patient doing in regards to the success..and to me losing 50 pounds is a success...losing ANY is a success...people seem to forget it it about better health, a better life or for me, it was to merely walk again and be able to wipe my ass again...that is why i had WLS i am somewhat familiar with the (SIPS) but not enough to comment on it.. i say go for it make yourself well dr enochs is a superb doctor as is his staff yeah the office is kinda slow but when i go monthly now, i schedule the appt around 1 or 2 and then take the rest of the afternoon off and as i always say for its true to anyone reading my words: for best results, with any WLS, it is wise to follow the doctors advice sometimes things (complications) happen and sometimes they don't.. its major surgery not a manicure...just do the best we can with what we have...and where you are now...if you don't do good one day, do better the next...its a lifestyle change..not a diet...it wont happen overnight but if you keep going...eating, moving, believing it will happen..
  9. sorry you feel you are not getting the support you need at home but do you have friends or other family that can (help) you at this time? and this forum is a great place to come to for that extra UMPH we all need at times.. but i will say, be YOUR own #1 fan its YOU that has to make yourself well if you want to get well, then do it and do not let anyone or anything stand in your way. he may not understand the WLS procedure. my hub did not until he started reading it and he saw some awful shit on you tube and said are you crazy?? and yes i guess i am haha he also maybe scared for YOU and for himself.. could be many things..i wish i could offer something to ease your mind i can offer love/hope/friendship but the WLS you are about to get will give you HEALTH and that is the name of game in the long run. all the best

Stomach pain and can't hold down liquids

WELL SAID lab, you need to post this daily on this forum people need to call their doctor for any issues whether they think its stupid or not...
  11. ☠carolinagirl☠

OK, so what's going on? Not losing.

if you are losing *inches*......aka current clothes getting bigger on you or having to buy smaller clothes, then you ARE losing regardless of what a stupid scale says or does not say keep doing what you are doing eating, drinking, moving/exercising as its working..its not a rush to the finish line living life will never end until our last breath enjoy the trip but keep reality in your sights it did not take us overnight to be so large to need WLS the weight wont disappear in a days time...it takes time sounds like you are doing great that is what gives to me.

    Kedging through the Doldrums

i go for a walk or read w/a glass of wine (or two or talk to a good friend with a great ear/shoulder.... if you want a motivator, look at a before picture of you before surgery. if that dont motivate you, nothing will

    tooooo hungry

stay busy/find something to do..read/walk/clean/go shopping/have sex, go fishing......but also drink...head hunger plays a huge part...you maybe bored and want to eat or because someone around you is..i have found me drinking something usually solves my (am i hungry or not)...if i am truly hungry i eat......but you are early post op, use your free foods to tide you over but def stay/keep busy..... and just because one can eat whatever they want in any amount, doesnt mean they should..stay with the portions allotted to you by your doctor for best results until you are healed up inside...hang in there okay..

    Need some experienced weight losers

my WLS of choice helps me feel eat less my mind thinks i can eat 2 pizza's but i cannot surgery will only help one eat (less)..it is up to the person to make better food choices (and you will) and to exercise i started out at a BMI of 62...super morbid obese.all 5'1 of me... i did not get that way by eating only lettuce. i ate a LOT.. i was a volume eater as well as a binger (like you). ..before my surgery, i continued to eat the way i always did.. A LOT..it wasnt until my 2 1/2 all liquid diet before surgery did i realize some things i would NOT die by not eating i learned the difference between being really hungry and head hunger (vile thing that is) i learned i am stronger mentally than i ever gave myself credit for and the best part that YES i could do this if i wanted too you can make yourself well/healthy if you want.. i say find a support group if you can, find some friends who will suppport you, read up on WLS and dig deep inside and look at the person in the mirror...that person staring back at you is the ONLY one who can make you well....the WLS will help. you can do it..

    Say no to Lap-Band video

follow your doctors advice for best results i am 2 1/2 yrs out..no problems what so ever i eat out...i make better food choices and LET my band say when i had enough its not about getting FULL...eating til your full is uncomfy and not a smart thing to do like catfish and many others, i have not throw up once or be stuck or pb or slimed you eat slow...take small bites (if you want) and live.. you will learn to use YOUR band for you WLS is not a miracle/save all. the person who has the WLS of their choice must also change..people go into WLS thinking they can do what they did before....and surprise surprise... but its not about one WLS being better than the other. dont let people on the world wide web scare you sometimes things do happen with any WLS and sometimes they dont...

What was your start weight & why lap-band?

i was 336 pounds and wearing a snug size 30 and was as wide as i am tall my insurance does not approve sleeves and i was (too scared to have bypass). so i opted with the lap band...my dr even rolled his eyes at me and gave me a yeah, you will fail look. someone supersized like me had to make a decision to get well or lie to myself and the doctor and say yes i will do whatever it takes...that decision was mine to make...any WLS will only do so much 2 1/2 years later i have done hospital seminars been filmed 2 times for tv commercials been in magazines have a national blog w/awards not bragging but i came from someone who couldnt wipe her ass to where i am today... whatever WLS you have, use it as the dr advises for best results do the best you can, no excuses, no BS drama...and make yourself well. each day that passes is one we do not get back. we wasted enough...now time to get living..

    Any breakfest

i usually feel (full in the a.m) until about 9 or 10 so its coffee or i take a protein bar and cut into small pieces/bite size and pop them in my mouth through out the morning..but i am like @@JustWatchMe i have no trouble eating anything..i just go slow...take small bites..chew a lot and enjoy..i let my lap band tell me when i had enough..

    Pre-op diet all liquid?

it is to prepare the insides for surgery (liver etc) being larger people, what my dr told me, is their livers are larger and hence the liquid fast to help make it smaller and for the dr to navigate inside better. one thing, liquids in means liquids out....so ask your doctor if you can take immodium AD as you will need it as your body is (cleansing) for lack of a better word. do not worry about how much you lose here as @@Bandista said....its about you getting ready for surgery i am wishing you all the BEST.....good luck and congratulations on having WLS and making a choice to get well and healthy......that is what it is all about....
  23. should not affect the using the cincher at all...i wear a corset most weekends..but if in doubt or concerned, ask your doctor....

Two years out, completely off track....

great thing about life is that it always goes on and another day happens i think we (all) get off course or get side tracked or even lapse somewhat back into what (we) use to do..old habits? not exercising, eating more and eating less of the better for us type foods...yes it happens... so what do we do..how do we handle this? do we sit and cry and go woe is me....or say screw it and pig out or blame it on elvis.. what we do it start right now......eating better, small changes to take us back to where we are back in control......drinking more liquids, moving (even if it is 5 min...as long as we are moving, it counts) you are a success you have this day focus on doing the best you can today...we cant go backwards but we can go forward... hang in there back to basics......eating clean, drinking and exercising you need motivation....look at your before picture before surgery.. compared to the goddess you are now/today... that should motivate you
