My fiance' and I are attending 2 parties on July 6. One of which is a WHITE PARTY .... uggggg the most unflattering color to someone trying to lose weight and watch their figure. So I'm setting a small goal for myself ... I want to lose 5 lbs in the next 10 days ... let's see if i can make this happen.

Well .... In a previous post I mentioned that I usually don't feel the restriction of my fills immediately. It takes 2-3 weeks then out of nowhere I start to feel that restriction and I have to alter how I eat ...

Well my last fill was May 30 and I was discouraged for several reasons:
    1. I had been losing weight at a FABULOUS pace from Feb-Mar ... but I had some sever acid reflux issues and I got an unfill.

    2. Because of the unfill I gained about 7-8 lbs ...

    3. I went back and got GRADUAL fills, so I still wasnt at my prior level of restriction ... I gained 2-3 more lbs ...

    4. Got this last most recent fill and I'm back where I was before as far as cc's in my band ... I think I actually have 0.25 more than I had before ... which is great EXCEPT I didn't feel the same. I felt like I could eat anything ...

Welp ... on June 14 (14-15 days after my fill) ... It came back! I actually started to subconsciously feel the triggers and started pushing away my plates much sooner than before. This is important to me bc its one thing to feel a trigger and have to force myself to stop eating because I still feel hunry, or because Ive reached 1.5 cups of food and I know I shouldnt eat anymore ... its ANOTHER thing to actually feel somewhat satisfied and just stop eating with playing mind games with myself about why I should put the fork down ...

SO this week I feel optimistic ... I feel like I am back in my happy place or somewhat near it and I can go for hours and hours without eating or obsessing about food. I can be satisfied with 1 cup of food and not be upset inside because I want to eat more.

I am very excited for what's instore this summer, as I just want to be able to lose 5 lbs a month and see some changes in my body <fingers crossed - prayers going up>

Welp ... I'm sure you can imagine that I ended up on the Lap Band's doorstep because I tried every other diet/workout/fad imaginable to lose weight ... and somehow still needed more help.

I've tried Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers, Paleo, Green Tea pills, Phentermine pills, B-12 shots, Lipo Shots, Liquid diets, and any other thing you can think of.

I was very unimpressed with the side effects that the pills and crash diets had on my body - jitters, constipation, etc.

And as I am here now struggling still with the lap band trying to get my weight down wiht a feeling of my own will and discipline, I have something else to "try" and I navigate my way to the green zone.

So a few months ago I bought some "chia seeds" from Trader Joes. I mixed them with some water like Dr. Oz said on his TV show, and they were the weirdest grossest feeling thing ever. They were lumpy and slimy and crunchy at the same time ... I was confused and grossed out and never opened the bag again.

BUT ... I realize that on my journey to the green zone what I really need is something that keeps my hunger under control, so that I can feel more satisfied eating small portions of healthy foods ... and supposedly this is exactly what Chia Seeds do ... they swell once they are mixed with a liquid, and therefore make you feel full once you eat or drink them ...

SOOOOOOOOO I figured I would try to outsmart myself and eat them again without making myself gag. I tried them yesterday morning with my protein shake. I didnt mix them with the shake, but I took a gulp of the shake and shoved a teaspoon of the seeds in my mouth, then swallowed quickly and drank some more. Well I have to say that if I was guessing, I may have subsided my extreme hunger pangs for maybe an extra 30 mins or an hour ... so I did the same thing before I left work late in the afternoon ... and again I felt satiated for maybe 30-45 mins.

So I'm at it again this morning, drinking my protein shake and eating the seeds simultaneously. And I'll do the same thing this afternoon before I leave work (1.5 teaspoons per sitting). I'll see if there is correlation to how long they supress my hunger, and the amount of seeds I take in, so I'll gradually increase the amount and see what happens.

I'll keep you all posted. If you woild like to try them, they have them at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's (and probably fresh market) for under $5 per bag. I suspect that this bag may last me about 3 weeks.

And if anyone else has had some experience with them please let us know!

I started the week at 243 .... yesterday the scale said 247 - what the HECK?!?!?!?!

This past weekend I was on liquids because of my recent fill, now Im back on solids and that 4 lbs just jumped on???? SIGH

AT least I'm getting my protein in.

And I went to the gym twice already this week and I'm going again today for more cardio.

Maybe I'll try to do a liquid breakfast and a liquid dinner for the next couple of days and see if that makes a difference. (I can't eat liquid lunch on weekdays every day, I would be too jealous of my work friends eating real food).

    Wish me luck!

With so many things to think about on this lap band journey, I feel like I've forgotten some of the rules that could be leading me to more weight loss. One commenter on my last post brought it to my attention that I need to make sure I get my daily protein amount in ... a rule I forgot about.

And it makes me wonder, what other rules am I neglecting?
    1. eat only 1 cup of food
    2. eat all of your protein first, then veggies, then carbs
    3. don't drink with your meals
    4. get in your required XX grams of protein per day
    5. take your multi vitamin supplments
    6. dont eat within 2 hours of laying down

All of these rules Ive totally disregarded at one point or another, on multiple occasions and with some frequency.

Well for the past 3 days I've met my protein requirement. I got a fill on Thursday and I'm down 3 lbs ... I guess they really do tell us all of this stuff for a reason.

    Hello all,
I figured I needed to start a blog to try and keep myself accountable for my goal of "wedding weight loss" in the next 5 months. That assumption comes from the fact that teh last time I actually set a weight loss goal (going on a cruise) I posted about it on this website regularly, and I accomplished my goal and I had people cheering me on.

So fast forward to now - I have been banded for 14 months, I have lost about 25 lbs (but more inches and toning) and I am getting married this October. I really expected to have greater weight loss at this point (maybe 50 lbs or so) but I know that everyone's journey is different.

I have a realize band (11cc) and I think I have about 4.75 cc in my band. I get regular fills/Dr Visits to monitor my progress ....

I am not on any real "diet" or nutrition regimine. I eat what I want, when I want (probably the reason for my extremely slow weight loss). I try to eat not more than 1.5 cups of food per meal, and I don't snack between meals unless I'm eating some fresh fruit. I am meeting with my surgeon's nutrition counselor in a few months (yea, she has a waiting list - SIGH) and hopefully I'll have some more guidance. What I like to do is eat noting solid before 11am, and TRY not to eat anything solid after 8pm. I also want to try and limit my carbs (atkins worked for me in the past - lost 80 lbs, but gained back 40 over a few yrs) but I havent found the will power to do it yet.

With trying on wedding dresses and going to fittings, I really just want to lose a few more pounds before our wedding in October (Las Vegas) but we are actually having a large local wedding in May and I want to look my best.

ALSO as a side note, I really want to get some of this weight down because me and the future husband want to have a baby and fertility is very much linked to having a healthy weight, so I just have soooooooooo many reasons why I need to get my body together in 2013.

Thank you for coming on this journey with me.

Well ... I weighed in at 242 this week ... down from 247 from the week before .... the reason was simple ... I took in less calories than I expended .... not because I watched what I ate or because I went to the gym a lot ... but because I fell into a DEEP DEPRESSION because my fiance' and I had had one of the WORST arguments/fights/spats/issues in the entire course of our 4 year relationship. I couldn't eat, could barely sleep, I didnt get out of bed for like 36 hrs unless it was to go to the bathroom or to get something to drink. It was horrible, and even though I tried to force myself to eat I still didn't get more than 500 calories a day for about 4-5 days.

It was a nightmare mentally and emotionally, but the smallest tiny part of me was happy that the scale was moving. It let me know that my scale isnt broken. My ability to eat less food isnt totally gone.

Now my fiance' and I are making up and working things out and back on track and my appetite is back. I haven't looked at the scale but I'll fill you guys in when I do.

Welp, the scale said 248 this morning .... SIGHHHHHHHHH.

Ive posted the lap band rules in my cube in TWO places so I can see them all the time. I need to get them burned into my eyeballs thru repetition until I start making them a daily habit and lifestyle.

I feel like I'm in bandster hell right now ... and I say that bc I have a time period between when I get my fill, and when I actually FEEL my fill (2-3 weeks) so right now even though I know I have a fill I still haven't started to feel that increase in restriction. It's been 11 days since my fill so maybe at the end of this week I start to feel some marked difference.

In the meantime .. I'm hoping that this fill is what gets me back into the green zone (I was there once several months ago for a VERY short period of time - but I had to get an unfill due to acid reflux issues) ... and now Im trying to get back there.

I'll keep posting my weight and comments as a hope to keep me accountable for what I'm doing and eating.

I worked out this weekend, and I did P90x Plyometrics yesterday ... "maybe" the scale isnt moving but Im losing inches since Im working out <fingers crossed>

Maybe I'll post some pics along this journey until my wedding for you guys.
