  1. If I may ask are your mother and brother having weight issues too? Unless they are paying for it, I would say they have no say so in you getting lapband or not. And as my doctor said. yes you can loose the weight, but does it stay off. Your brother will monitor a diet for the rest of your life? I know from my own family , that when they saw me after I had lost some weight, that I looked "too thin" and I should eat cake too slow it down. But she went on to explain for so long all the family has been large and that's the perception we all have of each other and to see one that now looks different, . I did back out once in my head I wasn't ready, but I rescheduled and worked on myself and my reasons, health and I went through with it, and at first it will be hard to make the adjustments, but pretty soon you will see the results.

    good luck

  2. I'm only 1 week post op and have already cheated and had solid food. My hunger pains started on Sunday and I just couldn't take it. I just chewed the food up really really good and swallowed it down with Water. Whatever. I'm so over this, at this point I am regreting having this surgery. I am so pissy and emotional its pathetic. I thought I was stronger than this, but I am not!!! I have my post op appointment on Thursday, hoping I didn't screw anything up. Anyways, rant over.

sounds like me , I regretted, cried couldnt eat, but I had wonderful support around to help me get through that time. Most of us go through that emotional time, and you have to remember what's happening. you are asking your body to change the way it eats, what it eats, and its rebelling (thats how I see it) but you have to be strong and keep at it. Soon it will retrained and it will be so much easier to reach for a Protein shake than food (at this early stage) an extra bite here and there is ok, and I tell my lp dr. and its ok he says because I am still loosing weight.

I wish you the best of luck! and remember you can vent all you want on this forum.

  3. I think if we were used to eating certain foods then our bodies will be more accepting of those foods again.

I love chili Beans (they are my comfort foods) and I have never had any problems. I ate the juice in the beginning and now can eat the Beans also. A friend of my stays away from the beans she said they do a number of her stomach.

    Everyone is different

  4. My cubicle at the office is completely trashed....but I'm so glad that they didn't go the 'over the hill- black decorations' route - as i am pretty sure my kids will take care of that....

and for my birthday gift to myself this year ----- LAPBAND. i hope to be banded by August this year....already started the visits (have to do 6 months - 4 to go) and of course the other testing - which will be in June or July....

and by next year.....watch out - this hot grandma will be back riding her motorcycle and living life!!!!

    have a great weekend everyone!

    Diane

Happy happy! Isn't 50 the new 21! Enjoy!

  6. Hi there! Horsegirl, that is awesome!!!! I have noticed that my necklaces look better on me now, LOL.

    NJ2NC- 29 lbs, that is awesome! I wish I were a stress non-eater!!!!

I lost 3 lbs last week! Total of 26 lbs lost forever, never to be found again. The exercise is really helping, and I'm loving logging all my food, then getting to subtract calories burned, LOL. I actually treated myself to a small brownie last night, logged it, and was still way under calories!

I wish I felt some better restriction, I have 6 cc's in a 14 cc band, so I'm psyching myself up for at least 2-3 more fills before I really have it- but so far so good!!

i hear ya, I have actually had compliments on tops I've worn before the weight loss, people thinking its a new top. I do say oh I've worn it before, but I do have to think to myself, did they not notice it for looking at the bulging fat sticking out? well no longer!

  7. Hey ladies question.

Awhile ago I was at my doctors and they said I had darkening of my underarms due to being over weight. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and after they had the Lap-Band and lost weight if the discoloration went away. Im hoping to hear from insurance next week for approval. Any insite or experience is greatly appreiated. Good luck everyone! ^_^

Good to know, I thought it was because I ate too much beef/pork. (and because I'm hispanic I just thought it was part of nature)

  8. I was recently talking to a bandster that was done in October12. She asked if I was taking Vitamins and I said a multi and Vitamin B-12 shot once a month. She said oh no you should be taking two multis-one in am and one in pm and a Calcium supplement?

I tried two and ended up with headache and just bought the Calcium today,

Do I really need that much? I know that what doesn't get used the body just flushes it away.

  9. Even with the band you can continue to have health problems if you keep eating candy which will soon be known as sliders.

A friend of mine has had her band for 3 years, and just couldn't eat, so she would suck on candies all the time, and drink shakes and not the Protein ones, the whip cream and cherry on the top kind. She even had her 10cc band filled to 9cc in an extreme moment to jump start the weight lose and all she could do was shakes again not the Protein ones.

She was recently diagnosed with diabetes and poor leg circulation due to the diabetes. The first few times I had talked to her she was so negative about the band, she couldn't recommend and all she's lost was 20 lbs. But she now acknowledges that it was her fault that she tried to get out of her part of working at the lapband and just blamed it on the lapband.

It is a BIG committment and there are foods we have to give up for our health. I don't think you will have a problem after you have lapband. The urges you have now, pretty much dissappear. And the lapband will tell you when you've eaten too fast, too big a bite, or just too much. You learn to read your body signals instead of food impulses. I know I sneak a cheat now and then but nothing that I feel is going to jepardize my weight loss.

I wish you the best in your decision!

  10. I started probably 2 months before my surgery . I was scheduled for November surgery but dr didn't check gallbladder till right before and found it full of stones, so instead of lapband, I got gallbladder surgery. I was rescheduled for December but I chickened out and rescheduled for Jan 24, 2012 where I did finally do it, and throughout the whole time I was drinking the Protein shakes. and eating way less. It really helped the last two weeks go by easy and the last night before surgery I had a KFC drum stick and mashed potatoes,

It wouldn't hurt, and you can ask your nutritionist/dr's office to make you feel more comfortable.

  11. As much as my sweetie didn't want me to do it (afraid something would happen to me during surgery). I didn't know until weeks after. He went with me to all appointments asked questions. he brought me my liquids, food whatever I needed. drinks Protein Shakes with me. He reads information with me. basically tells me all will be fine, I just have to give it some time.

I've lost weight, and I reassure him that I'm not gonna be looking I am treated like a queen and no one else is gonna put up with my sh#t. (I tell him its his fault he has me so spoiled).

Its all about communication, the lapband is lifechanging not only for us for us as a couple, and I doubt I would have done it if my hubby had not been there with me.

I'm a wimp and now I'm spoiled and complain all the time, but I'm gonna give this a whirl and I love the look in his eyes when Im wearing a nice dress or something he hasn't seen.

  12. Yes I noticed my hubby being a bit more affectionate when he would drop me off at work. ( I work with 150 men) walking with his arm around me. when we sit put his arm me. He's always been affectionate but lately he is extra snuggly.

He did make a comment about me getting a late text and I said read it, it could be my sister/daughter. After he looked I told him I was his, not to worry there is nobody else that would take my sh*t. There is some fear for our loved ones, because before they had no reason to be jealous that others would look at us. But now, vavavavoom..

Just constant reassuring, and letting them know that what we are doing is for us as a person and as a couple... for a future happy longer life.

    Good Luck

  13. I've read where you can get the New whey Protein shots after workouts, you can pick up at Wal mart they have 42 grams of Protein, and the Walmart brand has 26 grams. drinking Water and crystal light, although ( I think I drank too much today and not enough clear water) . I went for a walk this afternoon felt woozy and popped one open and sipped it for a few minutes and it really helped. Hubby picked up for me. You learn to gage the calories you eat with the calories you will burn off.

    Good Luck
