  1. Plain lack of education on my part and really trying. Everyone in my family is on the big boned side. But there are also lots of health issues. When both my parents passed away within 3 years of each other, that was the wake up call for me. Only in my 40's at the time, already seeing a cardiologist?? Got the lab band, lost 70 lbs, now trying to keep them off, you know how it goes sometimes. 2 steps forward, 1 step back. but I still have kept most of it off. Plus I have joined Planet Fitness and have been committed to going at least 4 times a week if not more, and I go on weekends. It has also inspired my daughter who's weight was starting to go up to start a gym, she has lost 40 lbs in 6 months, At a family bbq, my cousin pointed at me and said you are going to eat a piece of cake, so you don't forget where you came from. (all in jest)..

  3. what does it mean when heart rate drops after workout?

    1. 2goldengirl

      2goldengirl

It's normal for it to drop after a good workout. I remember once or twice lazing on the couch after a long bikeride, still wearing my heart monitor. I beeped at me because it went so low. A lower HR is indicative of aerobic fitness.

  7. Grr, walked out of a doctors office, 2nd time its happened, first one signed in, dr just takes door closest to her. waited 45 mins. hubs said we are out of here.

      #MagicWithinme

1st time, my apt was at 8, was finally seen at 9ish, I had one foot out the door. Same thing this time apt at 1, it was 1:45, my hubby said go check at counter, I asked if dr. was already seeing patients and they said yes. I'm like I'm the first one that signs in, I said this is the second time this has happened, I'm not waiting ,my insurance better not be charged. I drove 5 minutes to my regular dr. who took me in, waiting 10 minutes , in a room, got my results that I was supposed to get from other dr, plus meds for a sinus infection. I will reschedule but when it's convenient for me!

Really sorry that happened and while I am not sure it is defendable, I can tell you that every surgeon I have ever been to (bariatric, orthopedic, etc.) ALWAYS run that behind. It is very frustrating. I think they book appts too close together and then have one emergency or one delay in making rounds and it all goes to hell. It is possible the other person had an emergency - though perhaps not. One time I got completely forgotten at an ob/gyn office and after an hour finally got dressed and went out the door. They said OOPS - went in the wrong room. I waited 3 hours on my orthopedic surgeon one time! THREE HOURS! Seriously? AND that was to see a PA! My last bariatric surgery appt was 1 hour and 45 minutes after my scheduled appt and I was the first appt of the day. Like you, I will probably see my endocrinologist for review of my tests and only follow up with surgeon once per year as required.

      #MagicWithinme

Daisee68, I agree and understand that, but all I saw was that the dr. tends to choose whatever door is closest to her at the time she comes out of her office. And there is no apology. Apparently everyone is used to the dr. doing this. I don't have the time. I consider myself very lucky I have a regular doctor that has an open door policy for regular patients.

Fat Acceptance Movement - how do you feel?

I agree. It was great with my regular doctor when I lost the initial weight. But now that I have put on a few lbs back, its all about the numbers, you really have to watch that weight. Are you working out/ Did I not tell you that I work out 3-5 times a week including weekends? Did I not tell you that my family has a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease? Oh and cholesterol. Is it not bad enough that I stress myself out, that I need to hear your two cents? I agree that many doctors look at weight as being the main factor of illness, when sometimes genetically we are screwed anyways.I know sometimes I feel I looker than I am, because of the loose skin I've accumulated. Today's society is stuck on skinny as being healthy. NOT SO!

Fat Acceptance Movement - how do you feel?

In this day and age of weight awareness, in schools, on TV, online, if you don't know you are overweight , there's a problem. Or you don't care and figure society will take care of you (which unfortunately will happen)

    DENIED---PLEASE HELP!

How low was your BMI? When I went in a few years ago 2011, the BMI was 35. I was told that was going to be lowered (I guess so more people would be able to get the lapband). haven't heard anything since. Or it could be your insurance specifically?

Bra math - don't try this at home.

I went to Torrid this weekend and got measured. I normally wear a 40c, but she says I can fit into a 42C/D and she was right! I'm wearing one right now, and it feels like they are walking in before I am. I'm so used to wearing sports bras and flattening the girls down, but wow ,yes I am a bit self conscious. Hubby loves the bra by the way!

    Lost my way

I had my band done in 2011. and I too did great in the beginning. for the first 2 years I had my original 2mm fill . and lost 65 lbs., Of course I was terrified every time I put something in my mouth. I started loosening up food wise and unfortunately I have gained back part of the weight. I was working out before to try to get weight off, now I work out to keep if off, but somewhere between all that, it's no longer working. I have confidence in myself that this is just a setback , it happens, get back on the wagon, yada yada yada. You are not alone, don't go by someone else's journey. We all have our issues, our demons, our goals and dreams. You are not alone.
  15. Ate lunch fast too day, was hiccupping as we walked around a store, suddenly everything "slide now" my stomach hurt and I tell hubby oh the baby is kicking, he reaches over and rubs my tummy.. The loooks we get..

  16. Mind Tricks, when I look in the mirror, I look and feel fat, but when I look in the mirror with someone else, I see myself loooking through their eyes.

      WLSResources/ClothingExch

It takes time to adjust to the changes. Until you can see what's really in the mirror now with your own eyes, hey, grab anyone in sight to stand with you. Let yourself love what you've been doing for yourself.

I really struggle with this too. For me, it is the clothes that convince me of my new thin size.

  17. Holidays over time to get back to it, and I have come to realize it's not the extra weight that makes me feel bad, its the guilt. Crazy mind ..

I simply don't understand the guilt piece. Don't we pay enough watching the scale go up or not move. Do we really have to feel bad about it too?

    3. #MagicWithinme

      #MagicWithinme

It's from our upbringing about weight, it's listening to society's idea of the perfect weight, and somehow in all that, our mind tries to fit in our lives into those molds, and it doesn't work and we know it doesn't work, but we still try. It's hard to change a lifetime of thought, but we MUST try for our own well being and sanity!.

  18. Gained some weight and people were commenting how good I looked.

    I hate my band...

If you have been honest and really tried, there is no shame or embarrassment. I'm sure the doctors/staff have seen far worse. People trying to eat regular and not give lap band a chance. I lose a good deal of weight first two years with no fill but now I have gained some back even with fills. It is hard work and at times we get discouraged, but we have to remember the reason we first decided to get one. To be healthier and happier people. Each of our journeys are different. Don't base your story to someone else's. talk to your doctor and perhaps he can give you suggestions, or talk to a nutritionist, or what he feels might help you with support and if a different kind of surgery is required be open to it. It doesn't mean you have to do it. Just get the information. Good luck!
  20. I finally went over the line, the cholesteral line that is,. dr says meds and diet, but I've been on a diet since lapband!! grr

    1. gowalking

      gowalking

...and even after losing 145 lbs. I'm still on blood pressure meds. Dr. says it's genetic and even at a normal weight, I have hypertension and need to be on medication. It happens...but at least there are meds out there that can help our conditions.

After I was sleeved, my cholesterol went waaaaay up. My doctor said it was probably because I was getting too much of my protein from peanut butter, cheese, sausage, and bacon. Oh snap! So, I have been focusing on fish and chicken and expect the numbers to be down next time. Also, two years out< i am still on BP meds. Doc said that was because I am post-stroke and that I may never get off the BP meds. Not the result I wanted, but my overall health is far better than it has been for decades. Just think of your meds as "better living through chemistry."

    3. #MagicWithinme

      #MagicWithinme

That is definitely what has happened to me then, because I lived on cheese/peanut butter. I was off my bp meds for a few months but had to get back on them, lower dose but still. It had been my aim to get off of everything. I also told by someone that once you start cholesterol meds (statins) if affects your liver and everything else! I got enough problems. Thank goodness I have a cardio appt next week. When both my parents died 5/8 years ago, of heart problems, I went to cardio, to follow up preventative, luckily everything looked good at that time, trying to keep fit. thanks for everyone's words, just part of the journey

Hi, I believe it's important in the post-op recovery stages to make sure there aren't any problems with unknown bacterial that sometimes can get into tap water unknowingly. After that, I'm really not sure.
