As I'm starting to lose weight and people are noticing, I just tell them I'm making some new lifestyle choices. No one at work knows I had a lap band put in. I'm not embarrassed about the lap band, I'm embarrassed that I let me weight take control for so long. Yep, I went out to lunch with a group this week and someone asked me why I just ordered a cup of Soup, and BAM, I just said I was making some new lifestyle choices and that was that.

I am going to throw an assumption out there and say you are probably just a very honest person and to hide things feels unnatural. I get the q all the time, how did you lose the weight? I say high Protein low carbs ahahaha. It's because I don't want any judgement, opinion or to have to give an educational lecture about the band. This is a very personal decision and journey and it does not require involvement or input of others thus others do not necessarily need to know.
The q's and comments are natural. It is astonishing to see someone drop 50 and 100+ lbs in front of your eyes. It's not something that you can hide. And yes, this accomplishment can make others jealous, standoffish even defensive. So those are the givens..but I say if you can drop 50 and 100 lbs you can definitely get over this LOL

I wouldnt feel guilty. It still took hard work and determination for you to lose this weight. So tell them or dont its up to you.Just know that you still had to work for what you have done. Be proud of yourself.

That it common. The band seems to be tight for me in the morning as well. My doctor explains that it is because after sleeping all night it can tighten up in the morning. I usually just have a Protein Shake each morning around 10 am. Drinking hot tea when I get up also helps.

I had my surgery last October and it was my goal to lose all my weight within 1 year (still a goal but still not sure I will make it). I started at 319lbs and I'm at 254lbs as of this morning! 65lbs down and 46 to go! OK I'm done ranting, thank you and good day....

    Hi Everyone....
I want to share my success! I am celebrating my one year anniversary on the 16th of April. I am posting now because my husband and I are going away on Saturday morning for a week to Punta Cana and will not have internet service. I could not be happier! I have lost 43 pounds and have gone down two sizes. Last year I was wearing a size 20 and now can wear 16's!!! I no longer have to shop at Lane Bryant or the Avenue...I am LOVING being able to shop in normal stores, like New York and Company and the Gap!!!
This past year has been such a learning experience for me and my husband. He is the only family member I told because some of them would not be supportive. A few friends knew but only the ones that are fully supportive. For those people getting ready to have the surgery or at the beginning you need to know a few things....
    1. Make sure to drink your Protein Shakes and find ones that you enjoy. Luckily I have been successful with GNC LEAN SHAKES...I still have two a day. One for Breakfast and afternoon snack. They have 25 grams of Protein and keep me full.
    2. Always follow the guidelines given by your doctor...don't drink while eating, don't drink soda, don't drink out of a straw, etc. These are very important!!! Most of all, Chew slowly and take your time with certain foods.
    3. Make sure you go for your fills and be honest with your Doctor. If you think you need more ask for it.
    4. Try and exercise if you can...I have to be honest I was up and down with my exercise. I am a teacher so was great in the summer but then got sick for two months with Epstein Barr Virus so could not do much.
Lastly, the LAP BAND IS A TOOL!!! You must see it as a guide to control your eating. You still need to make the right choices with your eating. I have to honest for those of you that are new to this process...it takes a good six months to a year to adjust to this way of life. Each day is a learning process and you need to make it work on your own. There are many adjustments I made in my life and I could not be happier today. I feel much more energetic and enjoy getting up in the morning and not worried about how I look...WHAT A FEELING!
    Thanks for listening!!

ktsped got a reaction from DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in SUCCESS! One Year Anniversary!

OMG!! I can totally identify with what you are going through. I had my surgery on April 16, 2012 and have lost about 43 pounds but ever since Sept/Oct I have been stuck!!! I thought I hit the green zone but then my band was too tight and they took some out in November. I was finally getting back on track and went for a fill in the beginning of December but then got very sick. I was on antibiotics and steroids which put a stall in my weight loss. So basically I have been going up and down the same 3 pounds since October. I just want to be out of the 200's!!!! So yesterday I went for a fill and the doctor was happy because I stayed the same this month which he was happy about since I just finished the steroids. I am PRAYING that I stay healthy and finally make it to the green zone. I am going back on March 6th and hope that I can be under 200. If you have any ideas of what to do or any advice anyone please let me know....I am still happy that I took this journey though...
