Spasms
I've had the same sensation. It doesn't hurt (at least for me) but you described it perfectly- like when a baby rolls over during pregnancy. I've actually put my hand on the spot before half expecting to feel it. Now, here's the weird thing: I never felt it until after my hernia repair/skin removal/tummy tuck surgery on May 1. Since then I've felt it many times. I just assumed it's because the muscles the port is attached to have been injured and tightened and they're spasming a bit as they heal. (it takes 3-6 months to fully heal from the surgery I had)

Disappointed
The average weight loss with the band is 1-2 pounds per week- not per day. 5 days with no loss isn't "stuck" at all. Remember, the weight didn't go on overnight and it's not going to come off overnight, either. Best wishes.

Will I ever be able to eat?
That's not normal. You sound too tight. I would make an appointment with your surgeon and tell him all this.

craving
I find them not with chips or crackers but with stuff like rice cakes and other chip alternatives. Oddly, they're at the end of the breakfast aisle in our Wal-Mart.

True or False? PB'ing & Vomiting within 6 Weeks of Banding
- craving
Veggie Straws. They taste like chips but only 140 calories for 35 straws. (That's a lot of straws, btw)- Not going to get approved
Double check if there is a co-morbidity clause. Most insurance requires a BMI of 40 or a BMI of 35 with at least 2 co-morbidities. Some possible co-morbidities are sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and diabetes. There are probably others, too.- Whats the longest any of you have heard of someone having the band without complication?
Your original post, before you edited it, said "over 20 years". Your profile said you got the surgery in 1989. That's 24 years- and you changed it when I pointed out the band wasn't even available until 1992 in Australia and 2001 in the states. ...now the dead doctor drama Seriously, why did you even come on here? Why make an account just to do this?- Feeling a little down
You're human. You're going through a tough time and no one expects you to be perfect. The truth is, you should actually be very proud of yourself. Some people have a bad eating day and blame everyone and everything else. Some even start whining how the band isn't working. But you are honest with yourself, not only about where you made a mistake but why you made the mistake. It may not feel like it right now- but that makes you a success. I hope things improve with your husband. Just remember, you deserve to be healthy despite any turmoil in your life. Hang in there.- Calories? What to do?
You really need to go see a nutritionist. They will help you establish food guidelines and a calorie allowance specific for you and your needs.- Whats the longest any of you have heard of someone having the band without complication?
First you say you've had your band for 24 years- I point out the fact that's impossible so you change your story (including editing your post). You then say your doctor is Marcel Molina in Houston and that you saw your doctor today. But he's DEAD and has been for 10 years. One mistake or typo- it happens. But a an account made today, who's first post is on this thread and full of complete BS? You have the credibility of man serving prison time for a felony. Seriously, it's pathetic.- Whats the longest any of you have heard of someone having the band without complication?
Really? Being honest? Your doctor DIED a decade ago. Marcel Molina Y Ved 1929 - 2003 was a member of the Molina Y Ved family. Marcel was born on July 31, 1929. Marcel died on June 5, 2003 at 73 years old. Marcel Molina Y Ved's last known residence is at Houston, Harris County, TX 77024.- liver function
Just my opinion, but I would find another specialist to take you. Waiting until November is not only inexcusable on their part but very dangerous for you.- Whats the longest any of you have heard of someone having the band without complication?
And what size band do you have? When is the last time you saw your doctor?- True or False? PB'ing & Vomiting within 6 Weeks of Banding
PBing won't cause a slip. Vomiting any time after surgery- be it 6 days or 6 years- can lead to a slip. That's why it should be avoided at all costs.- Symptoms of Band Slippage
Sometimes you have very few symptoms. Once in awhile none at all (but that's rare) Some symptoms of a slipped pain can be pain, reflux, night cough, sudden inability to eat foods you could before, sudden band tightness, and vomiting.- How does it feel when you vomit? Describe a PB.
PBing is just gently burping the food back up- literally. No stomach spasms or retching. Vomiting happens below the band, isn't gentle, and results in stomach spasms and retching.- Whats the longest any of you have heard of someone having the band without complication?
I'm curious, you just joined this site 32 minutes ago and immediately come to this thread? And, you claim to have your band for 24 years? You claim to have gotten it in 1989 (according to your profile) yet the first gastric band wasn't placed until 1992 in Australia. It wasn't approved for use in the US until 2001. Sorry but I'm not buying it. I smell a fear mongering troll.- Inhaled my lunch...
One important thing to remember- the band's job isn't to physically stop you from eating. Many people accidentally end up too tight trying to achieve this. The band is there to control your hunger and allow you to be satisfied on much less food- not force you to stop eating. In fact, if you eat until the point of pain, not only have you over ate but you risk complications. Here's how Dr. Simpson explains it: "The Lap-band is NOT about Restriction When talking about the band, some patients talk about restriction. Let's first be clear about one thing: the purpose of the band is not restriction; the purpose of the band is to lose weight by suppressing the appetite. When band professionals talk about restriction we are talking about something totally different than "restricting what a person eats." In fact, many band surgeons avoid talking about restriction so as to not confuse patients. The band works by dimming the appetite, and this provides a conscious control and decision made by the patient, it does not work by "making" a person do something, or keep them from eating too much. The Lap-band works by suppressing your appetite As a result, you are less interested in food between meals, making it easier to resist temptation. The analogy is when you are near a vending machine when you are hungry-- what do you do? Probably find yourself with some junk food that is not a part of your plan. But, when you pass a vending machine when you are full, it may not even catch your eye. Having the appetite dimmed makes you less tempted by the many food choices modern living throws at you - -this is what the band does, by suppressing appetite you become less interested in food." To read more, you can find it here: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html Best wishes.- How long did it take you to reach your goal?
I've not hit my goal yet but I'm hoping to be there by Christmas. So far, I've lost 222 pounds over the last 18 months. Just remember, everyone loses at their own pace. It doesn't matter how fast or slow you get there, all that matters is that you're losing.- Pasta and rice with lap band????
The band can't stretch, however the pouch above it can. With that said, I've been banded for 18 months and I eat both Pasta and rice regularly. In fact, I had rice for dinner tonight.- Think i need to have band removed.
Carrots are not easy to eat with the band. In fact, most raw veggies are difficult. Just because you get stuck on one food doesn't mean you need your band removed- it means either you're not taking small enough bites, chewing well enough, or simply can't handle that specific food. If you eat after getting stuck then yes, you'll exacerbate the problem and make it worse. If you get stuck eating anything you should immediately stop eating and go to liquids the rest of the day. Otherwise you're only making your stomach more swollen and irritated. It needs time to calm after a big stuck episode. I would recommend a visit to your bariatric surgeon. Let him help you address the issue.- Four Months Pregnant with Lap Band
Go see a nutritionist and find out what you should be eating. You may also need your band unfilled.- So happy to find this forum!
We have some great guys on this forum. Jim, TMF, Catfish, and Guy all immediately come to mind. All great guys with much to offer! Welcome! - craving
