  1. I was having a hard time getting 60-70 gms of protein per day. With the small portions that I am able to eat, that leaves little room for other food groups. I have tried several other protein powders to supplement my protein intake. Some make everything taste like sour milk, others are far too sweet. Egg white protein powder is AWESOME!! You can add it to anything and not detect it. (use a blender for liquids or it will be lumpy) It is a great way to get extra protein. I like the unflavored so I can add it to a variety of foods/drinks. It even says that you can make egg white omelets with it. Unflavored-115 cals, 24 gms protein and 1 gm carbs Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry-120 cals, 24 gms protein and 4 gms carbs I tried the one by Jay Robb, but there are others.
  2. I was told by by surgeon's nurse and my Nut, that hair loss is due to not getting enough protein. Have you tried unflavored egg white protein powder? It adds no taste at all, and also comes in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. All VERY low in carbs and 24 gms of protein.
  3. I woke up with terrible pain, but as soon as they gave me a shot for pain and hooked up the pain pump I had ZERO incision pain. Incisions just hurt as much as a mild bruise. Most of my pain is inside. For the first 4 days, if I didn't take my pain meds, Even water would hurt. After the 4th day, that was mostly better. Once I began solid food, at about 4 weeks, some foods still hurt going down. It is not an unbearable pain, I just don't eat as much of those foods.
  4. Try plain ff Greek yogurt mixed with extract and Splenda, Lime juice and Splenda, (like key lime pie) Fresh strawberries are AWESOME in it, Unsweetened cocoa powder and Splenda (tastes like chocolate mousse!) Haven't tried, but I hear that sugar free jams are good, Torani sugar free syrups, Crystal Light powder, You would just have to play around with amounts to suit your taste. I also use the ff plain Greek yogurt as sour cream, add chives, s & p, and a drop of lemon juice to top a potato. Mix with salsa for a dip Add ranch dressing powder for a dip for veggies or thin it out with water for salad dressing. I even made a creamy honey mustard last night, ff plain Greek yogurt, yellow mustard, lemon juice, pinch of dry mustard, s & p and Splenda. Let me know how you like these recipes. BTW, I didn't like Fage, Oikos, etc...either, I actually like the Shoprite brand best, and Yoplait, love the key lime, but I don't eat it too often because of the carbs.
  5. I put in in my bullet and pureed it into the ff cream soup, I wasn't allowed to have any pieces.
  6. I almost forgot. Another favorite is FF plain Greek yogurt with lime juice and Splenda
  7. You could also try Greek fat free plain yogurt with extract and Splenda. I've tried vanilla extract, but there are sooo many flavors out now. Skim plus milk has a lot of Protein, I've used it in ff/sf instant pudding, and baby food Cereal (I've always loved baby food cereal, I get the whole grain ones) Egg beaters can be used raw as they are pasteurized, so can be added to smoothies. There is also an egg white Protein powder, supposed to be tasteless, only 1g carbs and 24 g protein. I'm getting unflavored but also comes in choc./vanilla. If I'm figuring I could use it in anything, even sprinkled on whatever I'm eating. I haven't tried it yet, but will, next week, when my local Vitamin shop gets it in. Just some ideas that helped me in that phase, hope they help someone else, too.
  8. I ate out for the first time since surgery today, also. My sister and I went to a Japanese restaurant (which I've never done before) Before that I waited 2 1/2 hours in the mall while she got her hair done. In the past, after waiting that long and smelling and seeing mall food, I would've probably eaten something, anything while waiting, then been starving at the restaurant and wanted everything, then felt guilty afterward. Today, I drank a Protein shake, bought some jewelry, drank my Water and people watched. At the restaurant, I ordered crab salad and told them to bring it when my sister's dinner was ready. Totally enjoyed watching the chef cook and do all that amazing showy stuff. Took a bite of my sister's appetizer, salad and one shrimp. My crab salad was delicious!! REAL crab, not too much mayo and caviar on top. I was able to eat half. I left feeling satisfied, happy, relaxed and thankful for my sleeve. It is so liberating to have my sleeve to help me stay in control.
  9. Congrats on the weight loss, every pound is one pound closer to your goal! I'm down 26 lbs, since January 23rd, slow, but still better than I could do on my own. I'm very happy with it. I've had some hair loss and was told that it is from not enough Protein. I have trouble getting the 60-70gms per day.
  10. last week, when I was about 1 month post-op, I went for an appointment with one of my other doctors. The nurse said, "If you don't mind me saying, you don't look big enough to qualify for bariatric surgery." Nope, I didn't mind at all! I then went on to brag about the 50 lbs. lost before surgery and the 20lbs. after.
  11. Anyone else having trouble eating? I couldn't wait to get to the puree phase, I had so many ideas for foods that would taste good pureed. They taste good, in my head, but when I eat, most things taste almost spoiled. I know this is just my head playing tricks, but I can't get down more than a few bites. Lunchtime seems to be the easiest time to eat, for some reason. After a few bites, besides the taste, I also get a stabbing pain in my middle back. I've started drinking my Protein shakes again, they just feel easier. Eating seems like such work. I'm only getting about 10gms protein from food and 52 gms from shakes. Nut wants me to get more from food, I'm trying, I'm sure it will get easier as time goes on, I am only 3 1/2 weeks out. Any suggestions will be VERY appreciated.

  13. Thanks for all the suggestions. I can only put about 4 oz. at a time in my sleeve, so I have to be able to get alot of protein in 4 oz., at least 20gm per meal. I don't drink fruit juice, I did try it mixed with Crystal Light and it looked milky (which didn't bother me too much) but it still tasted like sour milk.
  14. I've tried two different kinds, of protein powder, so far and can't stand either one because I don't like sweet or milk. I need to find one I can consume every day, due to only being able to eat small amounts and not being able to reach my protein goals. I am supposed to get 60-70gm per day, I sometimes make it to 50. I've tried 2 protein powders, one is vanilla Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Isolate that is sickly sweet!! The other is Designer Whey unflavored and tastes like sour milk. I like the idea of unflavored as I can vary it by what I mix it with and don't need to spend alot of money on different flavors. I've seen some recommendations for Isopure Zero carb unflavored powder, how is that one?
  15. What does that one taste like? I've tried two different kinds so far and can't stand either one because I don't like sweet or milk. 16. U look awesome!! I see that u r vegetarian, how do u get all ur protein? I am supposed 2 get 60-70gm per day, I sometimes make it to 50. I've tried 2 protein powders, one is vanilla Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Isolate that is sickly sweet!! The other is Designer Whey unflavored and tastes like sour milk.
  17. That is sooo AWESOME!! :Banane55:
  18. Walmart, Aldi and Shoprite all carry fat free 1/2&1/2, not sure if you have these stores in CA.
  19. Sounds yummy! fat free 1/2 and 1/2 is good in cream soups, skim plus would work too and add protein.
  20. Does anyone know of a website that lists the protein grams in most foods? This would be very helpful once I am on the puree phase. I am having trouble getting my 60-70gm/day since I only consume small amounts. I want to be able to choose the most protein dense foods possible.
  21. Walmart has them and so does Shoprite. They are about $4.74 for a 4 pack. You can also get $1.00 off coupons at Thecouponclippers.com. Sunday's paper, 1/22, had a $1.00 off coupon on any EAS product. My doctor recommends the EAS AdvantEdge because they are only 100 calories, 3 carbs and 17gm of protein. And...YUMMY.
  22. I was 5 days on clear, then started my 2 wks on full liquids, this past Sat.
  23. My doc said to let him know right away if I had a left side pain.
