Surgery June 26 I did gain 10 lbs from IV fluids given in hospital. I was surprised about it. That took a few days to reverse then I lost 12 lbs from my starting weight. Able to get protein and water down easily Still a little tired from surgery Looking forward to new life !

My diet is shakes first 2 weeks.Week 3 soft foods cottage cheese, flaky fish ....nothing that needs to be cut with a knife. Didn't require puree.

I am 7 days out and have been drinking commercial protein drinks, water. jello and popsicles. I just ordered a Nutri Bullit and an unfalvored protein powder called Raw Protein. The commercial drinks are so sweet so I'd like to try to make my own from fruit and vegetables with protein powder. Are any of you doing this? Did it mess with your stomach to switch up?

4 days post op - feels like I will explode
Dickens22 replied to Camella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
7 days out and not quite as swollen , but was at first, coudn't button my pants. Now the gurgling and other stomache issues have kicked in...taking care of the bloat. -
Are you getting in your water and protein? My doc said to get up and walk around for 5-10 minutes every hour.
-
This is major abdominal surgery and it is exhausting recovering. You are still pretty tender after one week. Maybe check with your Dr. for full release date and compromise in the mean time.

My Doc told me to use a shot glass and drink one of fluid every ten minutes for 10 hours of the day. That gets 60 oz in you and leaves 14 hours for sleep, exercise, etc. I I set my phone to go off every ten minutes. Of course this is week 1& 2. But is helping to train me how to pay attention since you can't make up for lost fluid quickly.I can't really tolerate much more than an ounce at a time. It's really helping. SF Popsicles help a lot. Hang in there! glad you're feeling better.

I am only 7 days out but it does get better. I think the finality of it hits you when you first get home. I also experienced some emotional/ hormonal feelings that I do not know if others do. Anyway, it is not a magic bullet but is a way to accomplish your goal and it takes work. If you are like me , until this sleeve ! I let everything else get in the way of my dieting. I am excited to see what the future holds.

Had you been able to drink fluids? Glad you're okay!

An interesting article on VSG in the spotlight
Dickens22 replied to natedog51's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the article. This is my Doc. I needed the encouragement today. He is very good. -
Hi Janel I was also 6/26 and the first few days after I came home were rough. I had major buyer's remorse. It also surprised me that I was very emotional . That is not like me. I had to talk myself back, reminding myself why I wanted the sleeve. My family was very supportive when I was down. The first month will be tougher due to the lack of choices but really the rest will be doing what we know we must do to be healthy. Congratulations on going back to work! How was it! I am a little nervous about getting my fluids in and not getting so busy at work I get behind.

Feeling discouraged...
Dickens22 replied to angiemorda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does get better. I literally set my phone for 10 minutes. Every 10 I sip a shot glass of water or protein drink. I do this for 10 hours a day. It seemed kind of tedious at first but I am feeling better. SF Popsicles , SF Jello and broth have been good options too. I am still more fatigued than I expected 1week out. I gonna take a walk outside today. My doc gave me Lorazapam for anxiety/pain management. I have taken a few times when I get frustrated/anxious. I haven't needed anything stronger for pain.Hope you feel better soon! -
I'm June 26. Hanging in there. Dealing with a little anxiety regarding the permanence of this. I did lots of research but am still feeling low. Seems as though it may be hormonal. I've read that for some people that happens. I have lost 7 lbs and am comfortable. Hoping I'll feel more energetic for going back to work next week.

Congrats! I can't wait to be there!

5 days post-op. Is this hungry feeling really gas?
Dickens22 replied to Im14fun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have any of you heard of "Raw Protein" it is a neutral tasting powder. It sounds great for a regular stomach but I'm not sure for a new sleeve. It has live probiotics and is sprouted brown rice protien. It says Raw,Vegan,Gluten free, dairy free. -
Hi I just had my sleeve on 6\26. I am drinking water (1 oz every 10 minutes) and drinking protien drinks. It only takes 3 drinks to reach protien goal but falls short of calories. What are you supplementing for calories?is the 1 oz at a time of water all my sleeve can tolerate?
-
Has anyone heard of Raw Protien? It is 17 gms of protein,80 calories per scoop. It is brown rice protien. Live probiotics and enzyme. Raw,vegan, gluten free, dairy free. I a, looking for something to put in broth or other foods that might not have protein. I am on week out from surgery. Is there any problem with live probiotics at this point?
-
I was sleeved 6/26 . I am able to drink /eat protein shakes, broth, water,Popsicle and jello. I can get my suggested protein from 2 shakes but it ins't enough calories. The other elective drinks don 't add many calories. Should I just drink 1 or 2 more shakes?sorry for the dumb question. I wasn't sure if that would be too much protein.I feel a little lost.

Lightweights in the house! Any more people with less to lose/less BMI's?
Dickens22 replied to MumtazG38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I was in Good Samaritan with you. The post op days in hospital were good but now I'm worried about getting in enough calories. Are you drinking one ounce every ten minutes? How are you getting 600 calories in? I could drink more shakes but it would exceed 50-70 grams Protein. -
I had my surgery on Wednsday, 6/26/13. The first 2 days I have felt fine.Today I am going home so they weighed me and I am eight pounds heavier tha before the surgery. The nurse said it is Water weight and will be shed quickly. I've never read about that. I have been getting in my fluids nd Proteins as directed.

I had surgery yesterday and I feel great! I had read a few blogs on Monday that we're pretty negative so I stopped reading. None of it was true for me. If I knew it would be so smooth I might have done sooner. I'll write more later cause I am sleepy.
