  1. Hello, I am a 36 year old female with 97-107 pounds to lose. I have already loss 19lbs. I was banded on 1/10/12, however some of the weightloss was from the preop diet. I work for an entertainment full time and as a mental health therapist part-time. I'm also pursuing a PhD. I have taken a leave of absence from school because of this and my daughter graduates high school this year. As you can see, I'm very busy so I won't require a lot of time, I'm looking for someone that I can bounce ideas off of and just to make sure I'm on the right track.... At least for the first 3-4 months. Basically, until I get my footing. Thank you!!!!
  2. I went to my endonocrologist yesterday and she was not happy with my newest TSH levels. They should be under 10, I have been at 2.7. However, yesterday found out they are all the way up to 15.2... WTF!!!!! So she increased my synthroid dosage from 112mcg to 125mcg and said I may not be getting full absorption. I told her its only been 3 weeks (almost) but she said that can do it. I do not want this hindering my weightloss. I have loss 19lbs, 14 from preop so only 5 since surgery on January 10th. I know not to compare to others but I'm wondering if the slowness in weight reduction is from healing or the thyroid.
  3. So I finally got my first fill today (3cc), this was the third attempt. It appears the hematoma has healed. BUT, she had trouble with finding the center of the port. She thinks it may be tilted, it's def not flipped. I go back in 2 weeks.
  4. Thank you!!! Yeah it was very uncomfortable. I feel a little restriction but not much.

    Sick!?!?! Or From Fill???

I'm with the others, I haven't received my first fill yet (not by choice, that's another story). My doc requires 2 days of liquids and 2 days of mushies after a fill. Check with your docs office or the paperwork they gave you.

    Realize Band

I have the realize too, my surgeon uses both. I chose the realize band because the port size is smaller than that of the lapband. My surgeon asked if I plan on getting a tummy tuck. I told him it was possible, he recommended the realize band because of it's size and the size of my stomach. The lapband is larger and normally used for larger people. Also, the realize band has been around the longest worldwide (created in Europe) where the lapband has the most longevity in the US.

    Funny Weight Loss Moment!

That is too funny yet oh so wonderful for you!!! Splurge a little, at least on the underwear... I do understand not wanting to spend the money. My mom hasn't pulled out her sewing machie in awhile. I told her she will have to take in some of my pants. Perhaps the only new thing I will by for awhile are bras and panties. Again, WONDERFUL!!!!
  9. Ok so didn't get my first fill again today. Hematoma is improving, the NP wanted me to come back in a week but I told her lets make it 2 weeks. I did lose another 3lbs!! Woohoo!!!!

    What Is This ???

It might be gas, try gas x strips. If the pressure doesn't go away after that then call your doc. For me, even 3 weeks after surgery I had gas and bloating where I couldn't burp. It was horrible. Now I can't stop burping.

    Feeling Full/satisfied

It's a learning process and everyone is different. It's kind of weird but I feel it in my chest first. That's my signal to spit that bite out. Today I ignored that single now I'm sitting here feeling miserable. But I'm getting ready to walk in hopes of getting relief. You will get there and know when it's time to stop without over king it.

No Loss For Week 4 Post-Op

Hi Stacey, It seems you are following the plan. What I've been told my my doctor's office and have read on this site is that the first 4-6 weeks is for healing and to focus on the "rules" of the band. Like chewing, resting between bites, extended your meal time to 30 mins, getting the protein and water in, etc.... You are doing well. Like the others said, keep following the plan and the weight loss will come. I know it's frustrating. Although I've lost, most of it was preop. It's been 4 weeks for me (no fill yet) and my post-op loss is 9lbs out of the 23 I've lost. Good luck, you will do well.

    Dont Get A Lapband

@Elcee, you've said it all, thank you for your response to Rossy. @Rossy, you definitely have a right to your opinion like everyone else on this forum, however; your title directly tells people don't get the lapband. Ive said this before that each persons experience is different. I did the research for well over a year that included the lapband, my surgeon and the facility where my surgery was performed. Therefore I knew the risks and the benefits. I wonder if you did the same. And please I'm not placing blame. However, I also find when things do not go "right" with the band or with most things in life. People (not necessarily you) tend to be one sided in their explanations. What is left out is what part they played in the bands failures. I do wish you the best going forward, perhaps your title should have been "I should not have gotten the lap band" #justsaying

    Lapband 2 Weeks Post-Op

@Natasha, Elcee is right!!! I know it is difficult but stay strong, you're only 2 weeks in and it gets so much easier. I still cook for my daughter and my mother is in my home until her house is finished being built. She definitely is not a healthy eater although she needs to be because she is overweight and a diabetic. Actually, she motivates me because I do not want to become diabetic. Also, most members on this site have had some form of lapband. You will rarely see a gastric bypass patient on here.

Please Don't Be Happening To Me!!

Hello, If I can find the site, I will post it later. I'm not on my home computer at this very moment. However, I read an article on a medical site (I want to say mayo clinic) where it suggested to wait 1-2 years before undergoing plastic surgery. This provides the body the time it needs for the skin to bounce back from weightloss.

    Incision Leaks?

From what I understand, it is good that it's leaking. As long as it doesn't smell bad or starts to puss, hurt, feel hot or turn red then you are OK. I now have a hematoma clot (bruise)near my port. The NP said one of the reasons could be that it healed to fast before it finished draining. I did admit that I started putting neosporin on it very early because I was afraid of keloid scarring. Now I have to constantly use a heating pad to break up the hematoma in hopes the blood will move and spread for it to heal do I can have my first fill.
  23. Ok so the fill didn't happen due to a clot/hematoma. But I'm ok dwn another 5 lbs AND she will see me next week instead of 2 weeks.

  24. My first fill appointment is at 2:30 EST, I am sooooo very excited!!!!
