Hi, i'm Sylvia! A little info about me: 32 years old. I live in Maryland.I've been married for almost 2 years and have no kids.
I'm getting banded on July 2... in just a few days!! My weight when i started this process was 297 and i'm at 278
right now. My goal is 150... but i'm sure i'll be happy with like 170!
I would love to have a band buddy that has been there and done that! It would be cool if we have stared around the same place in weight!

    cutecamille and everyone,
I was just banded on 19th. Lucky for me, my sister had Gastric Bypass in Sept and gave me a heads up on foods options and Protein. Greek yogurt- Great choice. Here some help so it not so sour cream like. I get Plain nonfat greek yogurt- then mix in a tiny bit of a sugarfree jam, a little gos a long way. Also a little bit of splenda helps a lot too. My sister sent me for Christmas a case of different flavored sugarfree coffee syrups( like they use at starbucks) I didn't take foil cover off top of bottle, just took toothpick and made a few holes so it can add a few drops here and there. Add the vanilla or carmel to plain yogurt too- has less sugar and calories then the vanilla flavored yogurt can add as little or as much as you want. I sometime add a little greek yogurt to my Protein Shake, makes it a little thinker and cuts the whey flavor down. I use the harzelnut or peppermint in my chocolate protein shake sometime. Still I miss chewing food. I was really wanting the popcorn the kids were eating today, and then the tacos. But soon we will be off liquid only. It been almost four weeks and I going a little crazy. I keep hiding in my room so I don't start looking at crunchy food in kitchen with longing. I'm starting to want food I don't even little just to chew something I think. When I almost grabbed the stale cheetos, I got in the car went to store, past all the fresh crusty breads and filled the cart with sugarfee Jello and puddings. My kids thought I was a bit crazy when I came home, all my sugarfree stuff and a bag from McD's for them, so I didn't have to make them lunch. So far they have eaten most of my sugar free popcicles, and one package of pudding and half of the jello, and half the McD's is in the frig. funny. Oh well it is only 60 cals, but now mommy needs to go shopping sooner. I also walk for an hour today on treadmill. it felt really good. New Year = new us! Good luck.

welcome and good luck. My sister had bypass and didn't have to do two week diet. Lots of lap bands do. I had a hard time starting, and re starting the liquid diet the next day. I cheaped a bit in the first 3 days= wasn't all liquid had two real meals, then felt sick after. I lost 20 pounds pre surgery! in those two weeks. I think that's the ticket right there. It gives up that mental boost-see the weigh come off and also make surgery easier and safer. But it also gets you ready for what you going have to do post op. It like a test drive, if can make it through the pre op diet you are gold're en for the first two week post op. It not as big a shock to your healing body. That's my thought on it. A few more days and you are there! You going to do great. Happy New Year and Happy New You.

Yes I heard all the same comments and even more. One of my best friends tried to talk me out of surgery. When, she realized I wasn't changing my mind she said. " well, what am I going to do, I'm not big enough for surgery. How am I suppose to keep up?" She was scared I would be skinny and she would still be over weight.( not by very much). She is good now, but as the weight is dropping off and her is staying the same, I can tell she is not pleased with herself. When I go to the gym and she says. "you need to take me with you, why did you go without me? I need to get in shape!" I replied- I DID call you and ask if you wanted to go, remember? So she said next time make me go. haha. Most of my friends and family have been really supportive. I know it not easy change for some people. It changes their own self preceptions. My sister had WLS in september. Ironically we both had set up our first appointments with the surgeons the same timeframe but didn't know the other sister was doing it. She called me and told be she was thinking about having WLS, and I laughed and told her my appointment with doctor was in two days. She had allready been seeing a nutriutionist for over a year so she got approved and had surgery done within a month of that call. I just had mine done last month. It worked out great because she was there for me when my turn came around. Let me know what worked and didn't work for her. She has always been the heavier the sister. And I have to be honest, It stung a little inside, when she first told me her weight was under mine. So I kind of understand how that feels. But I was am happy for her and how healthy she was becoming. I'm her biggest fan and she is my greatest support! We send photos back and forth and text our new weights to each other. Last time I took a picture of me standing on scale - I had dropped to 218(from 256 highest)lbs. she wrote back. PLEASE , now that you lost all this weight, treat yourself to a pedicure before you send another photo like that. Scary toes!

Ok. Number ONE NSV: Now weigh less then my hubby. TWO: Hours of fun sliding my buttoned pants down over my hips. THREE: Went into Victoria Secerts and fit in something right off the shelf - a 38DD, but didn't buy because I didn't want it to be too big next month. (was a 42DDD/44DD). FOUR: Got rid of bags of clothing that was too big- all my size 22, and 2x and 3x's. FIVE: The size 18 jeans I bought two weeks ago are loose! Put on a new pair size 16 jeans! I could zip them while standing up, even breath and move in them-no problem. and SIX: A friend of mine since kindergarden came over last weekend and said ' you are full of energy, I haven't seen you like this in years"

Yes I did have my surgery Tuesday morning..Day 2 isn't so bad. I haven't had any nausea and very little gas. Soreness is getting better I actually skipped a dose a pain medicine by accident. Guess I really didn't need it lol I'm taking it easy and walking a few times throughout the day, sipping Water and Protein shakes without issue. I feel great and have no regrets. I'm looking forward to a healthier and more active life!
    Everyone is so supportive! thanks.

I work in an office with about 100 women. I specifically chose NOT to tell them about my surgery. I had my band placed on Dec 22nd. Many people here are rail thin and there are a few that are heavyset like me. I have only confided in a couple of people that I would say are my close friends at work about my band. I had one find out when she looked in my Medical Record (I work for the hospital where I had my band done) and when she confronted me about it, I turned her in for a HIPPA violation.
My family is VERY supportive as are all of my friends. I have one person that was supportive when I was thinking about the band (for over 3 years) but when I finally had it done her whole attitude changed. Well, I figure, with people like that, they are not TRUE friends and do not need to be a part of my journey. She is my ex-husbands sister and I thought she was a friend, but has proved otherwise. I dont see her that often, so as the months pass, the weight comes off, and I start looking better and getting healthier, she is the one that will realize that she has missed out on being with me through this amazing journey.
Many people think having bariatric surgery is a quick fix, we all KNOW its not. The band is just a tool to assist us in the journey, we still have hard work and dedication ahead of us to bring out that beautiful, healthy person that is hiding inside us all.
I would love to keep in touch with you after your surgery...let us know how you are feeling and this board is great if any questions come up.

I'm open about it to anyone. I don't see it as anything to be ashamed or, nor do I feel the need to explain my choices. I'm proud of myself for taking this step to better my health and my life. If they don't like it, that's their problem, not mine.
Plus, I see it as an educational opportunity. If someone hints at this being the "easy way", I'm quick to educate them on the truth and how much work it actually is.
Mind you, I also have MS, and I handle it the same way. Very open about and use it as an educational opportunity.
I guess it's just my nature

My mom was against me having surgery too. ANY surgery. it was just because she loves me, and was afraid of the risks of surgery. My sister had by pass surgery in Sept. my mom saw how well she was doing and came around. she was there with me in the hospital supporting all the way. just took her a while to change her mind.
one of my friends was also against my getting surgery and wouldn't talk to me about or help withkids for preop appointments. Hoping I wasn't go through with it. was very strange, She finial confessed she was worried i would get skinner and she would still be overweight. what was she suppose to do then? She was scared,
Anyway, ignore the negitive comments and do what is right for you. I had surgery a week ago and feel great.

I did Weight watchers for 3 months, last 3 pounds-total in end.up and down. I did not really follow try to do the points diet tp be honest, it was a crazy few months for me. just need the documentation that you were going , weighed in every week for three months time. I went one a week and go on the scale and got my weight record and my sticker in my booklet, lose or gain. They photocopied by checkin booklet for insurance acceptance. Was accepted within 24 hours of submitting it to insurance. I did loose 20 pounds on the liquid diet prior to my surgery. Had surgery a week ago and I now down 27 pounds. Good luck

My name is crystal and i am 22 years old. im excited to start this journey at such a young age because i feel it will prevent me from may illnesses that i can get if i continue gaining wait. at first i was very hesitant about getting the surgery i thought that i could just do it on my own and was ashamed that if i got the surgery i was "taking the easy way out" but at 254lbs i am pre dietetic and have high blood pressure and i know i need this surgery in order to live a healthy life. im so young and still feel ashamed of letting people know about my surgery cuz im scared they will ridicule me. the only person that really knows is my sister and although she has informed my parents and they are all for it their direct support is minimal because we are not that close. i am really excited i have found lapbandtalk.com because i can really use your support and motivation. i am very excited to start this journey. hopefully i will get the courage to tell my friends about my surgery.
anyone else have trouble telling people about their surgery ? is it important i tell people ? or anyone start this journey at a young age? or any thoughts ?
