the decision has to be yours but I agree with the rest, don't waste anymore time being overweight! this is a big change, it will change everything. I have never been a person who exercised, now I wouldn't miss it. I have always loved all the information about nutrition but never applied it to my life, now I do!
I do have to say, this forum has helped me a whole lot! it really helps to hear the good, bad and ugly on the days when you don't want to talk to people who don't know how this feels.
I also love that we display our weight & usually discuss what we are eating. it all helps me to be more accountable, not only to myself but to the friends on this site!!
Good luck, keep us informed and read, read, read some more from people on this forum. make the rest of your life a healthy one!

DO IT!!! I was your age when my weight got out of control and I have been up and down for 20 years. I'm getting banded 7/20/12 and so excided that this roller coaster ride is over. Don't be like me 20 years down the road and think why didn't I do this years ago.
I'm new on this site and know I will have thousands of supporters and so will you!!

I think the majority of us have dealt with years of yo-yo dieting. Lose 50, gain 75, lose 30, gain 45. I'd be willing to bet I've lost my own body weight and gained it back at least a couple times.
Honestly, I wish the Lap-Band was an option back when I was your age. I wouldn't have had to live my entire adult life a fat miserable mess. Ultimately the choice is yours, but the sooner you take control of your weight the better off you'll be on all levels.
    Best wishes to you!

I can't tell you how much weight I have lost throughout my entire life. The ups the downs, its tiring. Putting the weight back on as fast as it came off. Ugh! The stress alone of doing this, its pure torture!
Never give up, thats the key. I think that is one of the reasons why I lost and gained and did it all over is because I wouldn't give up on myself. You can't, you are the only one that can take control of your life, nobody else can do it for you...

Just do it! I pondered about it for 8 years- hate that I waited all that time. Best decision I ever made.

Well - today is it. My first bandiversary! In so many ways seems much longer than a year ago - but then again the year flew by - hard to explain! 130+ pounds down in one year. Hard to believe. I am so excited. I did not quite hit my goal yet (to be 135 pounds) but I am darn near it and i know i'll make it soon. Thank you all - you have no idea what this site and your support has done for me since even before surgery. BEST OF LUCK TO US ALL ON OUR JOURNEYS!!!!

I'm 47, have had a partial replacement (right leg) and a total replacement (left leg). I am walking on an underwater treadmill and a wellness center near my home. I have lost 50lbs, but want more off as the partial replacement has to become a total replacement. I want as much weight off as possible before that surgery happens. Water exercise is the best I think. Good luck to you dear!

Age, weight, exercise level, and body frame will probably determine how much extra 'loose' skin you will have. I mean it really does vary. I have seen some people who are in their 300's exercise vigarously and much of the skin bounced back. Many do have that small belly hang. I have loose skin already from losing and gaining practically half my life. I have noooo clue what I will look like when I start losing the weight. It will be either a surprise or a nightmare. Either way, I am not stressing about it because as Carolina said above "better to have sag then to be obese". And what can be a better feeling than that is to be healthy and more active

I had tons but thats because i was 57 yrs old, female post menopause and lost 237 lbs .. unfortunately that made me a 100% to get it and boy i got it all over but its not a major tragedy, i had extensive surgery to remove it and will have more next year .. It is still my badge of honour that proves i lost alal this weight. Mostly if u are young, dont have much weight to lose and do your exercises and look after your skin your surgeon is probably right and u wont get it .. theres no gaurantees for anyone whether they will get it or not, same as we have no control over where the weight is dropped from ..

I lost "hundreds" of pounds with Weight Watchers, joining, quitting, and rejoining, between 2000 and 2011. I never quite made it to goal, and ALWAYS put the weight back on, plus some. I was banded in January of 2012 because I knew even if I did make it to goal, I'd never be able to keep it off. I chose to be banded because I not only wanted to reach goal, I want to be able to keep it off. I consider the band my insurance policy and don't ever want to have to live without it!!

I ate so much I actually feel sick. I was going into this whole bbq-ing thing with very good intentions. I started out just picking on chicken and green tossed salads. I had some fruit, a glass of sangria. Mind you I skipped Breakfast and lunch just so I could have this. But after the sangria I started dipping into other things, like the crab salad, potato salad, mac n cheese, everything that had to do with Pasta I ate. Mind you I had stopped eatting Pasta months ago. I am not going to beat myself up because I already feel bad. Its done, its in the belly, I can feel it, it hurts.
    Tomorrow on track....

thank goodness then for some restriction! Because honestly, I don't know anyone who has only eatened 2 oreo Cookies and stopped, or half hot dog, 1/4 bun. You did gain some control today. I am not banded yet, I was going on pure will power and a hail mary. I was trying, because i know once I am banded, I am going to have many days like this and I want to be in control.

Not my best day, but not my worst and WAYYYYY better than it would have been pre surgery!!! Over the course of the whole day I had:
kid-sized bowl of Cereal with milk
    2 light bon-bell cheeses
    an Hones-Tea 100cal cranberry lemonaid
1/2 hotdog and 1/4 burger (no Buns on either)
    1/4c baked Beans
    1/2 cob of corn
    a glass of white wine
    Power Aid Zero
2-3 tbsp tabouli salad and 2 crackers
    2 oreo Cookies
    couple of raw carrots
small cup of Maker's Mark on the rocks
    2 sports-bottles of Water
This felt like a lot for me and I think I need a fill, but looking back, not a terrible day!

I really think you have to exercise accordingly to your weight and health. At my weight you are not going to find me running laps around the corner or jogging up the block. I also have servere arthritis and one hip replaced so I am a tad bit limited. However, this does not mean I can't physically move around. I can walk back in forth in a swimming pool, float and paddle my legs on a board, mostly anything with Water aerobics. I can stretch with my neat stretch band. I also have a machine called the gazelle edge that I glide myself as if I am sking in air (no impact). Even when I clean house, mopping, scrubbing, laundry, I am moving around. Its a start.....
