Most Humiliating Fat Moment
mesaucedo replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is not fair! You don't get a chance to fight back or even see why someone said that. Being sleeved is amazing for so many reasons, one of the main ones for me is that it really helped me realize that I am someone who deserves respect and shouldn't ever have to be treated like that. -

Yeah it was pretty bad! But I do love Portland and am even thinking about doing my Dental Schooling there. -
How Do Doctors Staple/sew?
mesaucedo replied to Shape_Shifter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Ponce De Leon also staples and then sews. They actually use a tool that cauterizes the tissue and puts staples in at the same time and then go back and sew over it. -
Most Humiliating Fat Moment
mesaucedo replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My worst was last summer when I was vacationing in Portland with my fiance. We were walking around the Pearl District and had been having a great time when some guys drove by in a truck and one pointed at me, they drove by again and this time rolled down their window, shouted, "FAT BIT*H" and threw a candy bar at me and then sped away. I was mortified and also so embarrassed that my fiance had to be there too. I guess I was afraid he would realize that I was fat all the sudden and leave. He didn't and actually threw a book at the truck for me. But still. Terrible. -
Important Question
mesaucedo replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always think of that Stephen King (I think) book Thinner where the fat guy can't stop losing and becomes sickly and bones. But anywho, most people just up their calories. Most of us get in 600 - 800 range now and to be in maintenance I see people eat around 1000 - 14000 which wouldn't make anyone gain weight. To gain you have to be eating more than what your body burns in it's daily routine, for me that would be about 2600 calories. -
My fiance was joking around with me about this! I have always been furry -- full Mayan and all -- but I noticed, and he did too, that my back was getting furrier! I figured it was because of area shrinkage. I have only lost 6 or 7 inches around my belly button but I guess that was enough! My little, and thinner, sister is going to have a field day now that she isn't the only hairy one!

So I am down to 204! Yay! I finally moved a bit! SW: 208 CW: 204 GW: 180 -
Oh this is nothing new for me! I am Salvadorean and have always been like a monkey. I have noticed it has gotten worse with my GNC hair, nails and skin supplement though. I now have to wax once a week instead of once every two weeks.

Weight Loss Funky Pit Gain
mesaucedo replied to rahnava's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A crazy tip I heard that works for me! Instead of layering on deodorant over and over I actually use hand sanitizer in between, let it dry and then put the deodorant on again. It kills the bacteria that causes the smell. It works well for me! -
My surgeon ok'd caffeine pretty early out. I can't function without it, 40 hours a week at work plus 22 units in Bio. Impossible to do it without coffee! I just do coffee with nonfat milk or sometimes half a 5 hour energy if I work a triple. I do make sure that I get in all my Water though. But I too have been told by docs that caffeine can't be a diuretic unless you take in a ton. It may give you a BM, but usually doesn't mess with water in your body.

Sugar Free Ice Cream
mesaucedo replied to kraftwrk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had sorbet very early out, maybe 3 weeks. I was out with the fam and they went to a Haagen Dazs (sp?) shop so I got a kids size of the Blackberry Sorbet. It settled fine with Hamilton (my sleeve). -

Be Honest Peeps When Was The First Time You Tried Carne Asada After Surgery?
mesaucedo replied to Karen2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A good portion of sleevers can never handle red meat, especially beef again. So there is a chance of never. Also, rice is very touchy for people. I had Carne Asada 2 months out, and waited until 3 for rice, on sushi. I tried tortillas around 2 months and they made me a little uncomfy. I can eat maybe 1/2 a small corn one. Wait it out. Seriously your options are to suffer with your cravings and head hunger or potentially go to the hospital after harming yourself. -
I know quite a few people that had Watermelon very early out. It is soft enough that you can chew it to a puree/mushie. Be careful though, it is a slider for me!

Just Went To My Preop Appt And This Is What Happened...
mesaucedo replied to NenaLinda's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My stats were very similar! I was 260 and I am 5'6" You better not lose faster than me -
I peeled mine off about 2 - 3 weeks in and I did get some scab with it, it didn't hurt though. I put normal bandages on and they were fine. My pants took 3 weeks I think. They are shipped from Britain so that is why they take so long. I read somewhere it is actually boat shipping.

Globetrotter, I have heard of some people getting a revision, but not really a routine rejuvenation. Most of the revisions were from people who stretched their sleeve by overeating everyday and gained a lot of weight back. I don't know if I would want to go through surgery again lol

Wt Loss Not What Expected! What Am I Doing Wrong?
mesaucedo replied to innerme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you look at other posts on here you will see the Vets say the same thing, "Step away from the scale for a few weeks!" "You are swollen from surgery" "Your body gained IV weight" "You are in shock" So there you have it. Put the scale away for a few weeks and relax. You will lose weight, it is impossible not to. People worry too much about weight and become obsessed with it. Later on, weight once a week or two, not everyday! -
What Point Can You Start Doing Other Exercise Besides Just Walking?
mesaucedo replied to innerme's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I was told to wait 6 weeks for "real" exercise and told a little linger to lift weights that would cause me to tighten my tummy. As for biking, my doc said whenever because I am a student at UCSB and have to bike to get around (or walk 45 min) but otherwise he advises 2 - 3 months if it is on a real bike outside. This is due to the possibility of falling I guess. Indoor biking for most is cleared around 6 weeks. -
They will go away! Wallk, walk, walk! It was the only thing that helped me! I also felt them up in my shoulder area, it was so painful! It was the only thing that hurt for me. Hang in there!

How Soon Did You Try Guacamole, Salsa, Hot Cheetos, Doritos? Sorry I Just Had Surgery On Tuesday And Omg :o Im Addicted To All Of That.
mesaucedo replied to Karen2012's topic in Food and Nutrition
I had guac and salsa in my puree stage. I eat them often now to spice up food. I would advise to stay away from the junk though. Yes "a little" won't hurt. But then you say you are addicted to them. You are not going to eat a little. Sort out your food addictions so you don't harm yourself like some on here have. -
I started having sashimi really early out as well. It was really gentle on my sleeve. I just had my first sushi since the surgery a week ago. I ate a whole two pieces and felt not full but not empty, I didn't want to push it with a third piece so I stopped there.

The Last Time I Ask About Hair....i Promise!
mesaucedo replied to jailynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mina, I can only eat about 2 oz of Protein at a time if it is meat. Less if it is red meat. So it is definitely hard. Also, I stay full for 4+ hours. I rarely have room for veggies too. If I solely drank shakes, I would be fine. But I try to limit those and rely on food sources.
