My doctor told me the reason I have had steady weight loss and no complications or nausea or anything is because I did and ate exactly what I was supposed to. he said so many people try to rush things and try to eat things they shouldn't too soon. and then they are sick so much and complain about it. If you do what your doctor says, you will be fine. Your time for real food will come before you know it and when it does, you will already be so much slimmer!

Your taste buds do change also. You may not want or crave what you did before! Good luck!

You have made a big decision that will change your life for the better and make you a much healthier person. Try to focus on the future and not the past. Think of the things you will be able to do with your son that you amy have not been able to do if not for the surgery and try to think about the new you. I went window shopping before my surgery and tried to imagine what it would be like to wear that size. I actually bought something in a size 8 before my surgery, and it gave me so much incentive cuz I wanted to wear it so bad! Now it is too big for me! Try doing that. You won't have time after the surgery to think about the past cuz you will be busy making sure you are eating right and planning right. Don't feel guilty about where you have been, but feel inspired about where you will be. Look at some of the before and after pics on here, and imagine what yours will look like! And read some of the nsv's and tell yourself that will be you soon! When is your surgery? Best of luck to you. Keep us posted.

If you are referring to pasta, I wasn't allowed bread or pasta for at least 12 weeks I think, maybe longer I don't remember, because it swells in your tummy and it takes at least 12 weeks for your staple line to heal. I don't even want it anymore because it fills me up to fast and too many carbs. You can't really focus on eating your protein first if you have pasta, because you are getting so much starch at the same time. I am almost 10 months and have only made spaghetti once, and ate 4 oz. of meatballs first and then no room for the spaghetti!

December 2011 Sleevers How Are You Doing So Far?
SleeveDreamer replied to Lucky Lady 702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 12/14/11. I really only had 55 lbs. to lose but it was all in my abdomen in a very dangerous place and part of my stomach had protruded though my diaphragm and was lodged between my lungs heading towards my heart. I had this repaired at the same time. Took 2 hours for repair and 15 minutes for my sleeve. I have had a steady permanent loss and have never gone up on trhe scale. I was at my doctor's 55 lb. goal for me a few months ago and have since lost 10 more. I only have 2 lbs. to go til my own goal of 67 lbs. I was out of town last week (without a scale and I weigh myself everyday and always will). this was a great test for me. I was in the deep south in Alabama full of fried foods! I did not eat any fried foods, no bread (fills me up too fast), just concentrated on protein and made sure I had a 32 oz. rtd protein drink each day, and always had an Oh Yeah protein bar with me. I constantly drink bottled water when I am not eating (flavored with MIO) and do not drink before 30 minutes after eating. I am never hungry. It does not take long for you to change your everyday habits. It's amazing to me that I knew exactly what to eat and what not to eat cuz we basically ate out the whole time, so that proves I am on the right page when it comes to my food choices. I do eat alot of cheese, but did not have any while I was gone and truly missed it. I actually lost a couple pounds the morning after I got back. I am happy to know that I am now in control of my eating. If I want something, I have it (I did have a very small piece of wedding cake while I was there, but never eat or crave anything like that otherwise). I took my Bariatric Advantage vitamins with me and never missed taking them. I love my sleeve and my only regret is not having it much sooner. Although I did not have as much weight to lose as some do, I was miserable because of the situation my stomach was in! I have gone from a size 18 jeans to a size 4. I applaud all of you who did have more weight to lose and have been so successful in your weight loss so far. My doctor told me that those who are heavier before surgery, actually lose quicker than someone who didn't (like myself) but I am truly pleased with my accomplishment. I met with my NUT last month to find out what my caloric and carb intake should be to maintain. I am 62 and am no longer on any meds and feel better than I have much of my adult life. Although I do always have kidney stones and have 3 left, but now that my diet has changed, my urologist feels that I should not get anymore new ones! YAY! Love this forum and relied on it so much in the month before my surgery. Hope I can be as helpful to others on here as they have been to me! I will post another pic after December 14th. My profile has a before and the after was taken right before my 5 month surgiversary. -

Feeling Hungary More Often
SleeveDreamer replied to katrina81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you are sipping and drinking all day and that you wait 30 minutes after meals to drink. This will make you feel fuller. I constantly drank all day when i wasn't eating and still ate several small meals and was never hungary. Also atleast one rtd protein drink in the afternoon will really fill you up and it will take awhile to drink it. -
Feeling Hungary More Often
SleeveDreamer replied to katrina81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's normal to feel hungry. Try eating small meals every 2-3 hours. Make sure y,ou are waiting 30 minutes after meals to drink. This will make ou seem fuller. Also try an acid reducer atleast once a day to help with head hunger. Try an RTD protein shake in the afternoon. They are filling and will add to your protein intake. -
everytime we go to the show, I take a sandwich size ziplock bag of popcorn in my purse. No one can see it.

Go on Little Miss Diva's Boot Camp for 5 days. It is posted. -
That's a good idea. I might try the preserves.

Keep in mind that different brands of cottage cheese all taste different and have several consistencies. I love Trader Joe's cottage cheese, but I have tried different brands every so often, take one spoonful and throw it out. Some are much denser but I like the creamier ones. Perhaps the one you tried had a denser texture which may turn you off. I have it every morning about 2 oz. with breakfast. I like pineapple tidbits in mine or canned diced peaches. Alot of people on here love it with tuna but I have never tried it. Try another brand if you can. I think you would like the creamier much better.

It was on my mushee stage, but keep in mind that you cannot put alot in your little tummy right now, and you need to fill up on as much protein as possible first.

Decaf Coffee?
SleeveDreamer replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could drink it about 2 weeks after. -
I just heard on the news that the guy who sued for butter on the popcorn, or whatever it was he sued Orville redenbacher for, actually got whatever disease he got from handling insecticides for years or something like that instead, but he tried to say it was from the chemicals or something in the microwave popcorn. I guess he was investigated! Anyway, it's true it's not really that good for you and to stick with organic or freshly popped!

I agree. I haven't had sodas or anycarbonation since last year at this time. I just stopped cold turkey so it doesn't apply to me. I just asked my NUT while I was there cuz so many people on here wonder about it. I agree that your stomach can't stretch that much, but according to her it can. I don't miss the sodas anyway, so i don't have to worry about it.
-
Speaking of soda, I know alot of people have questions about carbonation. i asked my NUT Monday what the deal was about not being allowed to have carbonation. She said alot of people still drink it, and have no problems as far as gas, or pain, side effects, etc, but her and the doctor both said it will definitely stretch out your stomach in the long run, because it expands in your stomach. That is why they suggest if you must have it, let it sit out until it goes flat. YUK, who would want it then?!
-
I agree about the chemicals. In fact, I just bought a bag of organic popcorn or something like that at the health food store, so i am anxious to try that. I'm sure it will taste much better anyway that the microwave stuff that tastes like cardboard! LOL!
-
You're right. It is definitely a slider food for me! goes down without a hitch!
-
My fave for taste and nutrients is Jimmy Dean already cooked turkey sausage links. I normally don't like anything made from ground turkey, but these are the best I have tasted and only take 20 seconds in the microwave. I have one every morning with Breakfast, The regular ones are good too, but of course they are more calorries.
-
My NUT just told me yesterday popcorn was one of the best snacks you can eat after being sleeved cuz it's full of fiber. I used ro eat a bag of microwave movie theater popcorn everynight before I went to bed! Now I keep the small bags of Smart Pop and every once in awhile make one, but can't eat much at all!
