2Nd Sleep Study Needed (Anyone Else Have This)?
i had a sleep study done last december (2011) and of course i have severe sleep apnea, but if you lose a lot of weight with the band then you could very well have taken care of the sleep apnea, so I dont understand that if the insurance has approved it then why force you to buy a machine...my machine with insurance was $1500

33 and single forever??
I'm 36, didn't get married until i was 32. I had a couple bad relationships in college, and i didn't date in High School. My wife got lapbanded last fall and I'm getting the lapband in June. I need to lose around 90-100lbs....I'm lucky that we (my wife and I) have a great looking kid...but I understand the "will i ever get married/in relationship" question. I must also say that I've had "man-boobs" since high school and in high school i weighed 160-170....and was just 10 lbs overweight...

54Shirley Passed Away
So Sad...sorry to hear that. Being so new here, I've had interaction on when she posted recently to say she regretted getting the band because she was now having serious complications with it.

Consultation Is Coming Soon...now What......
On the otherhand. I went to my PCP for 6 months (one visit a month) and she checked my blood pressure, took my weight, asked how my diet was going. Other than that, the bariatric doctor has me see him once, get one psych eval, and next week I got to an education class and see the psych doc one more time and then I'm done until i get the surgery. I didn't have to get a GI, or a heart test, or anything else. YOU WILL DO JUST FINE!!! I BELIEVE IN YA!

Long Term Lap Band
One thing you'll see is that the band has gone through changes since it was initially used. The band today is safer than the one yesterday...less slippage and failures. I hope to get my band in June.

Long Term Lap Band
I'm 36, 5'10" and my bmi is 38. I weigh 265lbs ... so while I'm obese, my bmi is low enough that my insurance said I had to have a co-morbidity, so I got a sleep test and found out I have severe sleep apnea. I'm in the same boat as you. Good luck to you on your journey!

Newbie! Trying To Figure Out The Next Steps
- Are You Going To Tell Anyone About Your Surgery???
Only my wife will know when I get the band. Mostly because I don't want to have a conversation about why with my parents or family. I'm not permanently physically altering my body any so there's no need to tell everyone. Technically my boss knows I'm doing something at a bariatric office since I've taken a few days off over the past few months, but he doesn't specifically know.- Then There Was 1
I'm sure you're giddy and dancin' around the room. Congrats! And Good Luck!- Newbie! Trying To Figure Out The Next Steps
I have GEHA insurance. You have to have six months of weight loss/nutrition visits with your PCP. Your BMI must be 40 or greater with no co-morbidities or 35-40 with one or more co-morbidities. I started last November and should have my band in June. Good Luck!- Insurance Will Only Pay For 80% If They Approve
My doctor covers all fills for the first year....- Sleep Test Tomorrow Night----Can I Fail This Test?
I got my deviated septum fixed, uvula removed, palate tissue removwd and turbinites trimmed back in december...helps some.- Sleep Test Tomorrow Night----Can I Fail This Test?
It made or broke my chances....my bmi is under 40- Insurance Will Only Pay For 80% If They Approve
I'm having my surgery at a hospital and I'll pay 3k at the most. There's no way they are charging 100,000 for that surgery.- Insurance Will Only Pay For 80% If They Approve
shop around...ive never heard of the 100k lapband procedure..no one in my area would charge that...in fact cash buyers are paying 12k....my insurance has it set so that he can max charge 18k to them..and i pay 15 percent of that...look around....i guarantee you that you are getting messed with...either that gal is wrong or they are a con game...call your insurance and they'll tell you what the CONTRACTED amount is with that doctor...I'm sure that gal is wrong.- Crying During Preop Diet...anyone?
You've got support here. I fully understand how difficult the liquid diet can be. You will push through it, and you will succeed. My wife was banded back in October 2011 and it was hard for her, especially since she can't handle broth (or Soup for that matter). I'm getting banded in June so I'll be in the same boat as you I'll be here non-stop post op! - Are You Going To Tell Anyone About Your Surgery???
