  6. My PCP told me that nothing really helps with the gallbladder. I have read posts where people ate low fat diets and that helped contain the symptoms..... I had my gallbladder out 6 weeks ago and it was a piece of cake. Nothing like being sleeved. No pain actually which made me really happy......

  8. I thought this article was very interesting. It's a study about heavier people compared to skinnier people's eating habits when dining at a buffet....Hope you enjoy it. Tactics to Eat Less at the Buffet Table Study reveals how people stay in control when faced with endless portions, many choices WebMD News from HealthDay By Brenda Goodman FRIDAY, April 19 (HealthDay News) -- Few situations can trip up someone who is watching their weight like an all-you-can-eat buffet. But a new research letter published in the April issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine suggests two strategies that may help dieters survive a smorgasbord: Picking up a smaller plate and circling the buffet before choosing what to eat. Buffets have two things that raise nutritionists' eyebrows -- unlimited portions and tons of choices. Both can crank up the calorie count of a meal. "Research shows that when faced with a variety of food at one sitting, people tend to eat more. It is the temptation of wanting to try a variety of foods that makes it particularly hard not to overeat at a buffet," says Rachel Begun, a registered dietitian and spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She was not involved with the new study. Still, some people don't overeat at buffets, and that made study author Brian Wansink, director of the food and brand lab at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., wonder how they restrain themselves. "People often say that the only way not to overeat at a buffet is not to go to a buffet," said Wansink, a psychologist who studies the environmental cues linked to overeating. "But there are a ton of people at buffets who are really skinny. We wondered: What is it that skinny people do at buffets that heavy people don't?" Wansink deployed a team of 30 trained observers who painstakingly collected information about the eating habits of more than 300 people who visited 22 all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet restaurants in six states. Tucked away in corners where they could watch unobtrusively, the observers checked 103 different things about the way people behaved around the buffet. They logged information about whom diners were with and where they sat -- close or far from the buffet, in a table or booth, facing toward or away from the buffet. Observers also noted what kind of utensils diners used -- forks or chopsticks -- whether they placed a napkin in their laps, and even how many times they chewed a single mouthful of food. They also were taught to estimate a person's body-mass index, or BMI, on sight. Body-mass index is the ratio of a person's weight to their height, and doctors use it to gauge whether a person is overweight. The results of the study revealed key differences in how thinner and heavier people approached a buffet. "Skinny people are more likely to scout out the food. They're more likely to look at the different alternatives before they pounce on something," Wansink said. "Heavy people just tend to pick up a plate and look at each item and say, 'Do I want it? Yes or no.'" In other words, Wansink said, thin people tend to ask themselves which dishes they most want out of all the choices offered, while heavier people ask themselves whether they want each food, one at a time. Thin people also were about seven times more likely to pick smaller plates if they were available than those who were heavy. Those behaviors also appeared to help people eat less. People who scouted the buffet first and used a smaller plate also made fewer trips to the buffet, whatever their weight. There were other key differences in how thinner and heavier people acted, Wansink said. Thin people sat about 16 feet farther away from the buffet, on average, than bigger people. They also chewed their food a little longer -- about 15 chews per mouthful for those who were normal weight compared with 12 chews for those who were overweight. Those behaviors weren't associated with taking fewer trips to the buffet, but researchers think they may be habits that help thinner people regulate their weight. "The interesting thing was that almost all of these changes were unconscious to the person making them," Wansink said. "They essentially become habits over time." A nutrition expert who was not involved in the study praised the research, but questioned whether these strategies might really be powerful enough help. "As with all of Wansink's observations, these are insightful and useful," said Dr. David Katz, director of the Yale University Prevention Research Center, in New Haven, Conn. "But in some ways, they are like looking for the reasons why some people got wet sooner than others when the Titanic went down. The bigger issue was: The ship was sinking, and everyone was in the same boat." Katz said the best advice for dieters might be to avoid a buffet's temptations in the first place. "By all means, survey the scene and choose a small plate," he said. "But, better yet, avoid the all-you-can-eat buffet altogether."
  9. This so scares me. I basically keep my diet very low sugar due to the toxic effect of sugar on our bodies but went to Maui for 5 days and allowed myself to have chips and cookies and I gained 8 lbs. Went back to eating 1200 cal high protein and am down 6 lbs in 2 days. Now I keep reading about TDEE and calorie intake but am so afraid that I will gain some weight and not start losing it by the increase in calories. Also, by the end of the day, I really can't eat much more anyways.....Can you give me an example of the foods that you eat? Are you on My Fitness Pal? I am so interested in this....... Thanks for sharing this.....
  10. Gosh this is such hard work. I always thinking about food too. I just ate a protein bar and was full but still grabbed that peanut butter cookie. . I'm wondering if we have anyone Cheetos left from the trip I am so guilty and am going to go hide in my room. Time to get to the park and walk.
  11. Congrats to all your accomplishments, especially a long marriage too!
  12. Not getting enough sleep also causes us to have bad judgement when driving or playing games too.....We so need our sleep...
  13. U can change ur decision but call the office and tell them in case they have to submit different paper work.
  14. I use to get a lot of migraines. But since the surgery I have had no migraines. I am so thankful too. I would go to ur PCP and ask for a prescription for Maxalt or Zomig to treat ur migraines. People are even using Botox to treat migraines too. Hope this helps.
  15. Can I ask what's on the ingredients list? I would love to try these, but prefer to know what the ingredients are first.... Thanks
  16. Coops you are doing so good......Nice to hear your healing and taking the swelling with stride.....Just got back from Maui and had a really fun time. The only problem is, I gained at least 8 lbs from my highest bounce.... Today is a day that I'm back on track. My adult children went with us and they ate a lot of chips, Cookies, and chocolates....and so did I. Well now I know it's very easy to gain the excess weight back....In fact too easy. How is your energy level these days.....In Maui we were whale watching for 2 hours and it totally wiped me out....went to luau afterward and ended up going to the car to sleep it off.....LOL....Just wondering about eating now days..... CONGRATS on your success.....The swelling does add weight to you also so I know you will go down really quickly....
  17. This is so true.........switching one addiction for another. So happy to hear your getting help with this....This is so frustrating for me at times. Just got back from Maui and I gained 7 lbs..... Now today I'm back on track. My adult children came with us and they ate a lot of chips, Cookies, and fudge. I gave myself permission to eat that sh** and now look where I am, yep, back to basics..... Next time we go on vacay, it's just me and my husband.......We can do this.....
  18. I totally love this! KEEP it up!
  19. I am so happy that you got him to go to the ER...He could have suffered major complications if he hadn't gone.....Good job to both of you....he will be fine once the stomach isn't swollen any more......This is a total relief... Hugs to both of you.......Oh and do take good care of yourself right now.......you do need it.....
  20. This is so sad to hear. Hope ur recovery Is nearing the end. Thank u so much for sharing.
  21. We are all certainly GODDESSES here! Sorry guys, it's about us right now.... LOL Great suggestion and to also check out that skinny person in the mirrow tooooo! There's your evidence.....Stop the old negative ticker tape that has been running through your head for the many past years......Time for a new look at yourself! You can do this! Keep us posted.....
  22. I regretted it for about 2 minutes waking up in my hospital room but then quickly decided that there was nothing I could do to change my surgery....So I began to live it.....I loved my morphine drip because I didn't feel a thing.... It was rough the first 2 weeks especially when I went to lunch with my family and they didn't have my veggie beef soup that was so delicious and I couldn't find anything else that I wanted. My son and his girlfriend got a really delicious plate of food that smelled so good.....But overall, I love my sleeve and the positive side affect of being skinny.
  23. The most important thing to remember is that you must get your fluids in to prevent dehydration. then comes proteins. I seldom get in the recommended amount of veggies, but do try to eat some now.....where you are right now, you probably will struggle in getting your protein requirements in so just do the best that you can.......I basically focused on what ever I can eat was good, it was too uncomfortable to eat more that my stomach was ready for.....Remember to focus on protein first and a couple bits of veggies.......and first and foremost, do not get dehydrated........Good job! Keep it up....
  24. I also have a very limited breakfast selection. I typically will drink a protein shake in the am, eat an egg with cheese and salsa. Have a sausage and/or bacon, chorizo, etc. I also have my go to which is peanuts and mixed nuts.... I need the salt for my blood pressure and it helps me retain some water..... I avoid cereals because of the sugar content. I try to avoid foods that are processed. My body just plain doesn't like them.... Oh I love having my quest protein bar too.....
