  1. Minimum 60 if you were not working out and did not have an active job. But your minimum increases with height, original muscle mass, rate you are working out and type. A jump in head's first cardio/weight training stair climbing sleever will probably need to aim for minimum 80. 90 if they were already working out and such for awhile pre op. No one told me that really, I did a bit of research on protien needs...I will see if I kept the links anywhere.
  2. Best to you, be more active with us when you return!
  3. Saving you a spot on the Losers Bench! You are on your way! You are doing this! God bless!
  4. I wonder if you could get the Body Media as a prescription, since it tracks sleep patterns? Hmmmmm?
  5. There was a lady a few months ago made one for herself and it was great! That is too cute! I was recently given an e. coli, the clap, and measels...they were cute, too!
  6. I don't know if it will help, but I am going to specifically request my doctor support VST - tell his patients about it minimally, run and ad if possible, etc. I know there are so many of us out there that just do not know about this forum. My doctor performs anywhere from 5-25 surgeries a week, and figure in how many are done overall. I wish everyone knew! OK, so doctor, FB (I don't twitter) I am going to put it on Pinterest, hmmm...anything else?
  7. yayyy! Welcome to the Loser's Bench! You are on your way!
  8. Ok - there are only 3 of us so first, I want to ask that eachof you ask at least a few other people to join. Second - let's set a date to Skype!
  9. Okay guys and dolls! It is summer, its hot, there are sooo many things to do and places to go. Lets go do them! Suggestions, or can I throw out a few things and we pick? I really want to do this. I was thinking a day at one of the botanical gardens, or the beach, rent the bikes or something!
  10. I am of the firm opinion you eat whatever calories you need to get in your protien. The rest is gravy. well, shouldn't be gravy! lol Water, Vitamins and nutrients and sleep are key in stalls - exercize too, but if you are already exercizing even just modestly, the sleep, water and nutrients is where I, in my experience, will see the difference. Fluxuating in daily calories 15- 200 or so helps me too, but for very specific reasons to do with my poo-poo metabolism. PS - I stall alot, so take what I say with, well, with that in mind I guess
  11. You are getting rid of your bike, I am trying to convince my Hubby I will not die on one if I buy it...lol
  12. It's like that Paramore song, "It just feels soooo good!" Kuddos to you. I am sorry I know no one can give it the emphasis it feels like it deserves, but know we are all so happy for you!
  13. Listen to your body on this one, but I would wait a few minutes. I just feel better not combining anything too fast with my Water. Not long, even 5 minutes is better than nothing. That isn't a rule it is a preference. if you do chase your protien shake, consider adding some bebeful Fiber to your water, to prevent constipation and "separate" your morning bulk from your lunch.
  14. Specifically about the sleeve, nothing I can think of. I wish I could have been more aware I would not have any major complications during surgery, lol. I do not think I sounded very confident to my Hubby sometimes. Actually, I think I would have liked to have been more realistic and reminded myself that knowledge is sometimes thwarted by experience. I knew so much, read so much, but it all FELT different, and actually dealing with it is more thorough, more time consuming, more of a complete change than I expacted - even though I knew what to expect. Oh yes!!!! The NSV's - I did not anticipate how important it was to have and acknowledge the NSV's. These small and not so small things are so very important. VST - I did not anticipate just how important daily interaction could be for me. Without VST this would be a very different, lonely experience. Hope that helps.
  15. I was on phentermine for my metabolism on a schedule that was intended to help keep my metabolism shook up. The on-again period kicked in and went up to 3 days from surgery. My doctor said it was ok, but I had to keep a very careful eye on my blood pressure and heart rate. If I had too elevated pressure it could have caused issues. I have never heard of it preventing the reduction of fat in the liver, no offense to any previous posters. It is often prescribed to people who need to eat less in an attempt to ease the liver's size.
  16. I was stateside. I will let those with the necesary experience offer advice it TJ. However, congradulations on your decision, I hope all goes well, and will safe you a place on The Losers Bench.
  17. Oh yeah, and it still happens to me on occasion. I sound like a washing machine draining out the last dregs of water...that swirly-swishy sound. I can feel it too.
  18. tambiko with seaweed & ginger popscicles jello coffee boiled egg with hummus and dehydrated apple chips shaved ice with Jelly Belly sugar free tangerine
  19. Here in Houston My Fit Foods is a chain (so to speak) you go in and they have all of the meals and such in freezers. there seems to be several in the Dallas area too... The plan is pretty expensive, but I actually eat from several My Fit Foods just out of choice. If the portions are the same and the quality is too you will enjoy the food. Just be sure to talk to one of the dieticians and be sure they supply the meals short on veggies and long on protien, and carbs are held in check (most are anyway). I cant imagine you need as much as the plan provides, you should probably buy a la carte. If you can go to the restaraunt or store front and look at the dishes, etc.
  20. Alot of us have posted questions here about if we wish we had had surgery sooner, regrets about this or that, they are all good questions. I do know I think the years would have been easier if the weight were not there. I can not imagine not being with my husband, thick or thin, so I do not regret the years, just that I were not in the health I wanted to be, and the worry and expense it has caused us. I tried so hard to keep the weight off as a teenager to be able to join the military I almost developed anorexia. I do have a regret. I regret not being able to fight for my country. My great grandfathers fought, my grandfathers fought. Uncles, great-uncles and more. My Grandfather was in WWII, fought in The Battle of the Bulge (Ardennes Offensive) and saw in other events some of the hardest fighting to be done, Pacific Theatre included. he then volunteered again for Korea. He holds the Bronze Star. He passed away last October, the last of his friends. Five times wounded in battle. He lay beside my Aunt, his baby girl. I do not know all of his stories, I think he took much to the grave. One day in February of 2011, as he was reaching the final stages of Alzheimers, he and my Husband sat by a fireplace and my husband oversaw him starting a fire, he started talking to my Hubby about the things he had seen and done, and were done to him, and did not stop for hours. I do knot know all of what was said, except that my Hubby waited till my Pappaw went to sleep, my Husband looked different. Older. Sad. he kissed me and told me a bit about what happened and proceeded to drink for hours. He never drinks. I regret never being to be able to join the military. I regret I cannot be there. I regret I cannot fight, for you and myself. That is my regret. I did not post it here, because it was a very difficult thing to talk about, but I tried to join the Texas State Guard once I hit onderland. I did not get very far - due to age but also the sleeve and diabeties and asthma, I was turned down. That is my regret. If you fought, thank you. I tried. If I am ever asked to fight, or be allowed to volunteer, I will be there.
  21. Good luck to you, you have quite a journey ahead of you. Your decision is made, the next we hear of you will be after your surgery! This is a tremendous thing we do here, each of us. What we give ourselves and what it offers to our loved ones is beyond value. My Mom passed on a week after my surgery. She was 58. She had no weight issues, except being too thin. I am 38. My mom was 58. If I pass at the same age that is 20 years, and honestly Six months ago I doubted I had 20 years in me left. If it gave me only an extra year, only even the same years but feeling better, it is more than worth it. Now I can fight - figureatively and literally. I am back into so much I missed. Godspeed.
  22. When I met my Husband in 1999 I was a size16. Fast forward to 2007 while down from my largest (I dont know how big it was, 28 was tight and I refused to get on a scale once I weighed in at 296), so again down from my largest, but still a size 26 and 285 lbs or so, I am diagnosed with diabeties. I had the diabeties in control within a year I had 6.2 or better a1c, but never the weight. I initially lost to about 245 and would do that a few times. The meds are so frustrating, you have to keep them with you, test, test,test... I have been told I am not diabetic anymore. Actually the percentage of people who are in remission that have had the sleeve is very disproportionate to people who have just lost weight, and there is no clear answer why. Your chances of being in remission at some point is very good. Good luck to you, and welcome to VST!
  23. Since he is running high, be prepared for him to feel really bad, maybe for awhile, even if his bg gets under control. When you go from running high to normal, especially if it lower end normal, it can feel very bad - and yes, maybe make you more hungry. be sure it is a real low before feeding it, there will be alot temptation for him to use it as an excuse to eat the carbs his body is craving. Let him go to at least 50 before you feed it, but 50 needs extreme monitoring, after that, or if you dont chose to still go so low, only feed it with low sodium carb choices. 2-3 oz of juice with 2-3 oz of Water is a good choice. Drink dont gulp - remember right now he should be practicing smaller drinks and such. Ok - one question - why is he not on here asking the questions?
  24. You are welcome to add me, if you are on FB. I am not on alot anymore, but still. It's my alter profile, search Lillian Ruth [GearheadGunner]).
