    What are you drinking?

no soda's havent had one for years. teas, Water flavored with real fruit, just slice it up or juice it and dilute it with water. Water is not as bad as we tell ourselves. You just drink a little as you go. 1 bottle is better than nothing, and you can train yourself to drink more. Often a sign of a real need to drink - dehydration - is that you do not want water.

    Yoga---It's for US!

I am an assistant yogi and in August I am extending my training to include "Heavyweight Yoga" - which is a program established in Austin, TX 10 years ago. I will be the first offering it in Houston My overall intentions are to offer it for the obese and morbidly obese, but also for the pre and post WLS future yogis. I believe yoga can be for everyone - as long as you have breath you can have yoga. While it look like you are well on your way out of the range of needing a lot of modifications, this yoga is gentle, goes at a slower pace and is described very well in two DVD's that the founder, Abby Lentz, offers. You might like it for beginning yoga experience. It hits upon issues we still encounter as we loose the weight. Good luck.
  3. Its OK! I had so many things going on that when mine first started I did not even notice, then came the day that I lost so much hair! I ran my hand through it in the shower and it looked like I had snatched someone bald in a cat fight. I sat in the shower and cried. Then I went short - hair that is and I asked myself "who can give me a short cut, while this passes, that is used to cutting balding heads - SPORTS CLIPS!!!" lol - no kidding, they deal with men balding all the time, go in and see what they can suggest by way of a cut until it grows back in - and it will grow back in!!! concentrate on fruits and veggies and mindful Protein and Water and you will get it back. My hair is actually the thickest now that it has been in 15 years or so (as the head shrinks, your hair growing back will look a bit thicker).

    COFFEE

I would have to check my old posts - sooner than I should have (no really), and I was NOT a people person in the mornings either.
  5. Oh, goodness - sweetie, why are you even TRYING that??? You just cut up your tummy - you are healing and you could literally not be feeling the damage you are doing to your stomach. Don't experiment. Follow your recommendations and portions. period. I think you are fine, however. Best of luck!

    Anyone in Diabetes Remission?

I had a kind of Diabetes still technically in the process of being defined (kinda like 1.5 was until recently). Basically it is an atypical type 2. Weight was a factor, but my pancreas and liver worked in off cycles, and when they would work together like they should I would actually plummet, and when not I could get really high (yes I realize I highs and lows are typical Diabetic conditions, unless you want to read a book you will have to just work with what I am saying). After weight loss, BEFORE my surgery, I began to see remarkable improvement of the inflammation that aggravated the issue, and after the surgery and more weight loss, I went into complete remission in early 2012 (do keep in mind what "complete" means is still being defined by doctors, with exceptional disagreements with health care organizations and life insurance agents, etc). For me, it was the weight loss that helped, not necessarily the WLS - however I was told that the issues I had after surgery (you can read my profile) negatively affected the inflammation, and had I not experienced them, I could have been in official remission possibly even earlier. So with that said, although I did not ask, I think the malabsorptive issues of RNY, while creating the initial weight loss that helps type 2's (generally), may eventually negatively impact long-term type 2 success due to the Vitamin deficiency issues.

  9. Um...he is a quack. Or at the very most he horribly misunderstands what the has been taught. Often people who gauge themselves scientists misunderstand that results do not always mean a hypothesis is correct. You are going to see results if you push yourself the way he describes. However, it is not ideal, it does not produce ideal results either. Muscle strength occurs with a balance of health. You must be able to breath, you must be sufficiently hydrated, you must have sufficient sleep, it is best to eat in a manner that serves your body, any medical issues should be addressed and dealt with in a mindful manner. Connective tissue, lymph system, bones, muscle, fascia, skin and MORE all contribute to a successful workout regimen. Not all body types respond to different activities (I prefer to think of my exercise as activities than workouts, lol). Your body type and how your dominate activity will define alot about the rest of what goes on. for instance, a long distance runner, healthy, active and prime will be much less flexible in yoga when stretching than a wrestler or someone who takes karate. It is how the muscle responds, it "remembers" the dominant activity. In my experience, you should never work a consistent activity that literally prevents your body from responding. Pain is not results. Pain is pain, it developed as a warning devise to tell you to either slow down or pay heed or stop if possible. The intense physical activity he is describing taxes the central nervous system, which uses sodium and phosphate and other minerals in complex forms to provide the electrical impulses for coordination and movement. Overtaxing occurs quickly, and that equals poorer and poorer impulses, and lack of concentration and coordination. Injury. Not to mention what shredding your muscles does to your body's filters - liver, kidneys, etc. This man is promoting a club, and telling you why YOU need HIM, and why therefor you should be willing to pay for his services and facility.

    My 600lb life

I had a friend who was an alcoholic - would drink as he was throwing up and crapping himself through all the alcohol. She had absolutely no place having that surgery without extensive counseling. it is hard to say, but honestly. At that size something is far more wrong than a basal addiction to food, or being a bit lazy or your metabolism is sluggish. Did not see the episode, I watch very little TV, but is sounds so sad

    Approved! Discouraged!

Sorry I misread the post. Just do what you can, and every time you think of the surgery, take a short walk, or a few sun salutations, or just walk in place - use the nervous energy to speed things along. You will be scheduled in no time. Maybe even consider waiting till you have lost a bit more than 8 lbs to schedule, to take the pressure of losing 20 lbs before surgery off of you.

Can you change doctors? The bells and whistles go off for me when doctor's offices cannot or do not respond promptly - it speaks of inadequate staff and possibly a mill-like attitude to their patients.

    Feeling cold?

Sleeved 1/4/2012 - cold ever since. I have actually got a sunburn while sitting in the sun to warm up. Last year, a runner from a local subdivision was running through the industrial park where my office is, and passed out due to the heat - I was taking a nap about 60 yards away, cozy-comfortable in my car. My boss has actually asked me to stop napping in the car in the heat at lunch - he is concerned I'm going to "fry your brain or something".

    Tightened Sleeve.

A purposeful deviation from you were anticipating, with out without complications, is something that can be taken up with the doctors malpractice insurance. A doctor altering your procedure to unwittingly put you in a study program is unethical, I am willing to guess, not in the bounds of the laws of your state, which makes ANY contract or agreement void.Encourage her to check with a lawyer - and ask for compensation directly relative to anything he or his hospital is getting in regards to the study. In my opinion if he is getting a paper or article publishes - accolades, basically - she should be compensated for a part of her surgery, since he profited.

    Flex for me!

lol - you can't really see mine (it looks like I still have pretty big arms) unless you poke my arm - and the fat doesn't give!!! lol. I'm lopsided right now due to dislocating my shoulder, I lost over an inch in my right arm. Getting back to being able to do all the fun stuff, however.
  18. No matter how "successful" you are at the beginning, this is a life-long commitment. Glad you found your groove! Keep up the fight! We all have things that we have to work harder on, and for some of us it is weight. It's OK. You sound successful and awesome and thank you for sharing!!!

    self medicated injections?

What is she referring to? Is it a condition you have? Remember, everyone having the surgery has a back story, a unique medical history and profile, and hopefully, doctors that have been working with them for awhile and are not so encumbered that they can give the patient attention they deserve - such as feedback and instructions to ANY injections at ANY time. Second this with a talk with a good pharmacist, in addition to anyone else you talk to - and provide them with all of your meds, Vitamins, herbal remedies, and OTC meds. Good luck!

    in the middle

When comparing real necessities vs. what we really need - think of what your children need, speak to the school and tell them you have surgery coming up and need assistance this year with school supplies. SELL OLD CLOTHES, OLD VIDEOS, GAME SYSTEMS, - go through the house. Sell, sell, sell. Check your 401K to see if you can get a loan against it. Cut off your cable, reduce your cell phone to talk and text only. No eating out. It will add up. Good luck.

    exercise.....where to begin?

Go get a nice, comfy walking shoe - New Balance in the 700's are good, and just start walking. Walk maybe 20-30 minutes a day, to make sure you don't have issues you aren't aware of, and after a week or two ( I call this your "telling my body I am exercising" stage) if you feel ok, amp it up. General guidelines: if you are not used to stretching or warning up, forgo it - just be mindful and go slow at first. Use the walking to be productive to your goal while researching other exercise options. Seriously consider yoga. I will offer as much advice as I can. Good luck.

    Year long stall

If you are going in for a re-sleeve, I assume you either suspect or know you are overeating? Else why would you re-sleeve? It's ONLY a question, not an attack or even a negative opinion.

    Dr. Juan Lopez Corvala

Search through the forums and contact the people here who have already used him. Consider staying stateside for your surgery. Be up front and ask about cleanliness, how easy it would be for someone to get into the hospital uninvited - and focus less on the glowing reviews and more on whether the staff seemed competent in times of emergency. If things are OK, its going to seem great, it is when things go wrong that the competency of a hospital, surgeon and staff and security (especially in Mexico) really matter. Good luck!
  25. NO. I would not put on the additional pounds. However, I would submit as much proof on continuous yearly gain, and submit your issues, and anticipate issues. Get tested for hernias, heart issues, asthma, diabetes, peripheral circulation issues - everything - in your appeal Not sure what the advocacy group is you are referring to - is that associated with your doctor? Insurance? It sounds like, off the top, they are indeed being upfront, but only on not being willing to try very hard past cut & dry approvals. I know Mexico is a big issue for a lot of people on here, but seriously consider staying on this side of the border for this surgery. Make a payment equivalent to whatever you would have paid for a loan into savings so when or if self pay is necessary you have as much saved as possible. Check with your 401K. Another thing - the expense of surgery may create a tax refund for you that might make a loan from a family or friend a realistic option, however you really need to get with your accountant over that, to be sure. I even know of someone here who sold their car to get the surgery. No kidding. For her it was easier to get the new car loan than the unsecured medical loan. Again this is how a financial planner or accountant could be of service, to provide options to get you to your goal. Good luck!
