  1. Congratulations.... Hope you love your-band as much as I adore mine. It is over 9 years post op and my life is wonderful weight wise.... FYI There are some who are not in favor of being banded. You will probably hear from them and others who had problems.
  2. I just cannot believe this forum has a huge discussion on the value of a piece of fruit.. I do understand carbs.... Many of us keep them low ... However ... This is long winded on fruit vs Oreos for my two cents. And invariably some people get bashed. Sigh. I thought we were trying to discuss living life with a new outlook and determination to change old habits. Doubtful many of us got here from too many bananas... And ps. We certainly have many super- informed people who haven't had surgery yet.[emoji529][emoji529][emoji529]
  3. What a better life WLS gave to us ( and we earned it , no doubt) the outcome is a better ride through this life !!
  4. What a change. Congrats surfer girl! I also would choose "not to weigh" at the Drs . Now, I'm curious what the official scale says. It does not have the power to ruin my day and I really appreciate that change.
  5. Happy to see some cyber friends posting. Feels like fall is coming in the mornings, although occasionally smoke from the Big Sur fire drifts in with the fog. Lately my eating has been fairly non challenging .... Thankfully. Tourists are gone and us locals love it.[emoji93] All is well today.
  6. I have tried the support group here three different times. While there was info to be gleaned, the moderator failed to move the group along. We spent 90 minutes at one and could not get past intros ... There was talk of breaking into pre and post op.... Never happened in the 3 times I tried. My impression was it was a conduit for WLS sponsored by Kaiser This site offers much more in my humble opinion.
  7. Welcome to the world of regular people of normal size....(FYI we are ALL normal, but you know what I mean about societal norms) it is a shock for some of us to look at an item of clothing and say. "no way this will fit". The amazement when it does is priceless... Makes up for lots of discomfort many of us had along the way. Congratulations.... You are shrinking monthly!! Enjoy your time ... Wherever you end up is where you need to be for a while.... Keep posting. I enjoy watching others move along this road!!
  8. Glad to see some of us old banders are still around....still working the lifestyle ... 9 1/2 years here and continuing ... Still staying under inflated a bit....same size for years. Hurrah. Happy to be a size 10 mostly. 12 if cut smaller Continuing working out faithfully 2x a week. (HARD WORKOUTS! It works better if I have a trainer pushing me. I'm too easy on myself) Hope some others surface here and give us an update. Good and bad. There is always hope! I miss the lap bander community input. This has not been a linear journey... Some ups. Some downs. But I refuse to go back. My appetite comes back if I don't use a shake or protein bar to minimize input... Always a balancing act...
  9. Nsv on a Labor Day weekend!
  10. I think so too. Summer can be busy... But it would be great to see some vets posting more. I must say nothing particularly new happening here.... Well there was a sketchy guy yesterday trying to get into a car down the block. I called and the sheriff took over...rare incident in a small town. Used the app "Nextdoor" and found out more from neighbors. Thankful I had it.
  11. I can only speak to tummy tucks. Yes I was very sore and could not get up or down for a few days without pain. Also, pain pills were a must for the first week for me. My doctor pulls your mons ( pubic area) up when doing his TT ... And also does liposuction there and on my love handles. It really helped! It took about 6 months for all my swelling and itching to go away... The scar has faded a lot in the 18 months post op. Best of luck. Ask a lot of questions is my advice!
  12. Maybe try a member named "bacon". He was a long distance trucker who posted about packing his cooler and walking around his truck. Good luck.
  13. He sounds vindictive. Glad you are away from his toxic control. Deep breaths... Things will work out....eventually... Not good karma to keep stalling. Judges take note of that, I'm hoping. Thinking of you[emoji93]. Hope you move on to the next chapter soon. And close that book... Except for the girls... As hard as it is. Take the high road...it is much more becoming and in the end, more satisfying ( ok. Harder too)
  14. To this day ... Years after my band placement , I still have a protein shake/ bar on occasion . Probably 2-3x a week. It helps with my protein count. Lunch can be a chore to eat. These work for me.
  15. My two cents is people should be ready for a true lifestyle change with WLS . Long term success means changing some bad habits and incorporating new ones... Just my take. It personally took me YEARS to finally adjust to a new way of thinking about food. And I still work on my protein, water and exercise every week. I wish success for all. It seems elusive to some. And for whatever reason WLS does not work for all.
  16. Although pedialyte has sugar, I found out that watered down, it kept me hydrated during a bout with the flu. I'm glad you are aware of sipping water or any flavored beverage w/ o sugar. I sometimes put a bag of mint tea into my water glass at room temperature.... Just to get some flavor and more liquids. Good luck.
  17. Oops my post says 20 years ...no way!! 10 is the correct number of years I'm headed for. I can't edit it. So I'm adding this. My doc says my band should be good for life... Fingers and legs! crossed .
  18. Lots of agreement here that WLS is intended to work with you and all the CHANGES you make to your life. Attitude, commitment , water, protein, exercise, all play parts in revamping a life that didn't work because we were too big . It's for life is all I can say... Fight it and lose or cooperate and most likely live a healthier life( nothing is perfect) Sorry. I am banded and posted in sleeve. But I think my thoughts are relevant . I do understand that WLS just does not work for some. I truly feel for those that have tried hard, but couldn't get results ... For many reasons not in their control. It is not one size / type/ fits all!
  19. Sounds convenient .... I don't know of anything that dense w/ protein.... Except protein bars. (Not clear on the concept of one quick bite instead of enjoying and savoring something you like tho) I have seen "mug cake" recipes on here. But they use a coffee cup. And protein powder. They are thick. They are in the recipe section. You might have some better ideas from others in that area. Good luck.
  20. I feel we all have to compromise somewhat for the gift we have been given ( and worked hard for ) of a healthier life. Some here want hair, some want pizza, some want alcohol. I guess we must be willing to take what is handed to us and deal with it the best we can. In my heart, WLS is worth a lot of compromise.... (Considering what obesity can do to many as we age)
  21. Congratulations on losing 100 pounds! That is a huge achievement and makes your body a whole lot healthier I'm guessing. 20 lbs may seem real important this moment, but others mentioned here that In the long run , KEEPING your weight off is of utmost importance. We seem to all make our destinies in different ways here ... Good luck on your new chapter of life at a lower weight!
  22. I predict 50 will be even better. With less drama for you I hope
  23. Sail away. I also adore inc clothes. Macy's carries them here and I find I like their sizing and cut. They cost a bit but I usually have a Macy's coupon or promotion so it takes some of the sting out of shopping there. I find that brands quality is very good .
  24. Great job by your surgeon... Those scars will fade in no time. I still have one section in the middle of my stomach from my tuck over a year ago that is red... But fading slowly. The sides are fine and blend in. Yours look great for how fresh your operation was!
