What is off limits after post-op diet
Julie norton replied to Bary's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Outside knows what long term is. I always like her truthful posts. It is so personal what foods work for one. And may not work for another. Time also can change tastes and compatibility. After a decade, I find only a few off limits-never work food for me and my ancient band. Soda.... won't try again.... I think it is addicting and has no nutritional value and doesn't sit well ..I just won't try. Very occasionally I'll let a seltzer water fizz out by shaking and releasing several times to have a sip Pastas... boy my Italian family has a hard time with this one. It just won't work for me or my stomach. Comes right back up. Sorry tmi Steaks. Never worked for me. No problem as I don't care for them Fried rice. A tiny white rice works. But never fried rice or noodles so I'm no fun at Chinese restaurants. ( chicken and snow peas works) Those are the main categories... everyone has to find their own dos and donts Refried beans saved me by working all the time! Good luck to all finding their new list of good foods for their body! ( and a single cocktail now and then is fabulous ....) -
How did you choose your goal weight?
Julie norton replied to ChaosUnlimited's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm just an old ten plus year veteran. I have a kind of different take on final number I had to keep myself where I could comfortably stay at that weight. It is higher than I would like. But leaving behind 90 lbs works for me and no more yo yo dieting Just sensible protein and exercise and the hardest for me. Water I encourage everyone to have a great goal. But ease up on yourself once you get close. It is a true marathon. Not a one time deal we hope Be happy if you are comfortable and healthy!!!! -
Nice to see you on the forum b-52. Glad all is well. We are pariahs with our veteran bands. I had mine emptied but did struggle. All is good with a small fill now

Four years later and I do not see anyone from back then still Here now.... Where did they go? Hope someone from the "old days" checks in and revives this old thread[emoji486] some people are still maintaining or close

I have seen others suggest 3 days of protein drinks 3x a day to reset your band... Please tell me if this works if you do decide to try it. Best of luck. You've done it twice. You can do it again and get back to where you are comfortable.

I remember the first few days being difficult, but quickly felt better after that. Congrats on starting a new chapter in your life. It truly works... if you do your part also.

Congrats. That took much time and work. You look so healthy. Many cannot get as far as you. Be proud of what you have accomplished [emoji93] -
Went to schedule a fill... dang, Dr retired... trying to find a new Dr to fill... all are about 45 minutes away. Some do not adjust bands.. Harder task than I thought Back to mixing protein drinks. I swear I am not going backwards... too far ... Harder than I thought. Still apparently have "fat brain " "syndrome. Sigh And I'm trying to track down surgery documents from almost 11 years ago, and my original Doc has retired. Life still goes on. Choices to make every day

Talk to your surgeon. They have some good rules about how long to wait for certain activities... Sitting for a long drive might be problematic... let alone driving and having to react quickly braking. Etc Good luck!

Nice to see you on the boards Reeger is an awesome podcaster... I will look for your interview. Lovely to see some veterans still around! 11 years in December for me ... seems like a lifetime ago.

I think we could make a million bucks if we knew the different ways to not Ever turn to food. !!Especially when the hunger is intense. Many times I'm ok with being a little hungry, but if I wait too long or have poor planning, I don't choose well. It has been many years, but I am still kinda arguing with 10 pounds.... If I keep my routine I seem to do better. Going out to eat... vacationing.... cocktails .. a dessert... those sort of things throw me off track . However. Life is still better at a lower weight!!

Rate of weight loss?
Julie norton replied to Yettid's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
And I'll chime in on weight loss averages... vs. weight STAYING off. That , in my opinion is the long Term goal! Even if all your excess weight doesn't come off or completely stay off .... you may have an easier time keeping at a lower weight. Long term!! Thankfully -
Glad to see a few posts from the dwindling lap bander group. Some of us are still around. I'm arguing (unsuccessfully) with 10 lbs right now. It is better than 20-30 or 40 lbs, but still...the only times I seem to be at goal is when I have the flu. Oh well... life is still easier to navigate at a "normal" weight.... whatever that is to each of us. Banders.... (especially the readers) please post. It helps to read of others and their banded life.

What are your staple meals?
Julie norton replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Lots of bean/ meat combos, baked( not wet and not white)tofu, chicken thighs, refried beans, fish, Eggs, cheese, yogurt, chicken salad, fairlife extra protein milk, some protein shakes and bars for on the go.... that seems to be my shopping list A LOT Good luck and please keep posting -
Children's Stares
Julie norton replied to CJ Sunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I totally agree. Normalcy is underrated. !! And I understand normalcy is different for everyone . It is something people take for granted and those of us that have been bigger understand the issue. Ignorant people and innocent children seem to be the major culprits. What a great way to educate the kids. The adults..... not sure they can understand the concept Nice job. -
Lost 40 pounds in two weeks
Julie norton replied to chynadoll619's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is what the forum is. A mixture of everyone's views. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.... I can see it has only been weeks you have been here and I think you will see that people post their own ideas and experiences. Many people read these and that is why the information needs to be realistic.... Losing 40 lbs in 2 weeks sounds like a tv commercial... and though it was true, 3 days later there was a 12 lb gain. That needs to be clear for others looking into wls results. Imho -

Lost 40 pounds in two weeks
Julie norton replied to chynadoll619's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once again, for the THOUSANDS that read these posts and are looking into Wls, 40 lbs in 2 weeks is almost unheard of... (and it turned to 28 lbs in 2 weeks and 3 days ). The 28 lb amount seems more realistic for the many who are trying. Even those who lose 5 lbs in a week should be happy . I'm just a 10 year post wls realist who wants many to succeed, but be healthy and realistic of the outcomes. -
My take on this is I try to limit my time spent on food exposures. That is: The grocery store , (not many restaurants), hardly any food shows, no perusing cookbooks for fun....(occasionally a wls friendly food prep on here) It seems to be a technique that has helped me the past 10 years post op. I could not believe the time and energy and money spent pre op on thinking about food, shopping, preparing , serving , cleaning.... and repeat . It appears that some of us post op have a sort of laundry list of items and meals that work to keep our weight in check.... Still maintaining, and I still have be a bit vigilant about my habits.... but this life is easier 90 lbs lighter!!
