Dealing with food you can't eat

Unless you want to tell and probably have people focus on wls, I would beg off. It's one charade to move food around and pick at it. I generally get up first and help clear when it is appropriate... (People notice far less than you think) but liquid only is unreasonable to fool people. Hard decision. Tell all and probably discuss it ad nauseum Best of luck with your choice... one of many coming!!
  2. I like extra (fairlife)protein milk... yogurt, eggs, fish, chicken thighs cooked in liquid , ...and I still use bars and occasional home made (inspire )protein drinks. Home made Refried beans are a staple Quinoa does have protein, and soy products have greatly improved ... pre baked and flavored tofu is amazingly good if you lean that way. Frozen yogurt is a treat! (Disclaimer: I'm a bander still working my program 10 years later...maintaining a 95 lb loss) And still I learn new things And wow. Just like everyone, I mess up!!
  3. I LOVE THIS ARTICLE.!! It says it all. Post 10 years wls , I just adore seeing common sense written for us everyday people .
  4. I try to think of "diet programs" as the old way of my life that did NOT help me. Just a long time of protein and water and walking and keeping on. No special diet but extra extra protein. And few carbs. Long term stuff. Not a daily diet deal Best of luck

    No control over weight loss?

Most patients seem to dip low and then settle at a bit higher weight. I wouldn't worry until I got close and had problems. It is quite a process Best of luck
  6. I would bring what I was told was ok by the dr. Nuts?. Jerky? protein powder, protein bars, yogurt, string cheese softened, maybe a banana?
  7. I'm still trying to upload pictures in my profile and I get error problems each time

What's eating like 2+ years out?

Well I'm a bander so your mileage may vary... but it is still an everyday project to have the right foods available....daily.... protein... water.... some sort of exercise..... I mix it up with frozen yogurt for a treat. Jerky. Extra Protein milk, baked tofu ( much different than regular). Nuts. Eggs.. chicken thighs...protein bars and shakes for back up. And so goes the week COMPLIANCE. Is my big buzz word. Most of the time.... that is my 10 years out, 95 lbs list and maintained advice.... Some of us vets just keep trying.... I won't go back!!! Ps. I'm having a love affair with whole grains. Split peas. Lentils. Beans. I never would have thought I would crave those....

Gaining weight after 250+ lb loss since 2008

Well I am over 10 years and I have fought regain. I do HAVE TO stick to band rules tho. Protein. Exercise. Water. Repeat ad nauseum I sometimes have to go back to protein drinks and bars for meals. To get back in the lower eating range... I agree with maintaining the lifestyle or a second wls will be in vain. Or short lived Best of luck

Calling all vets. Need help 4 years post op

My take is just to try fresh everyday. Some days are great. Some not so much. Hope the good days well outnumber the oops days You just have to start sometime.... a short walk and lots of water and a protein drink and bar can help me some days .... I also do not keep bad foods in the house. I sure am not going out in the dark to get anything!! But this is just me and we are all so different... Banded 12/06
  14. I'm thinking you need to start and get maybe 1/2 way to goal to reassess your end weight. No sense worrying about what MIGHT happen later. Just work on today!!

VET'S FORUM. What the %^&* is going on around here?

Some of us seasoned vets are still here and. .... mostly ignore very ignorant advice from pre ops and recent post ops. Gotta deal with Wls for a year or two ( or 10) to get "it" I'm happy to offer banded advice but there are a very few of us left [emoji182]

    Help!

How goes it with the band emptied? My take was it was difficult to stay on a banded program of eating. The cravings seem to still be there if I ate just a bit too much. My body wanted more ...

    Think I've finally learned

Yep. Lap band school. Big lesson. Ten years and I still have to remind myself to drink water more!! That is a hard lesson for me obviously [emoji171]

VET'S FORUM. What the %^&* is going on around here?

Please. No one ask here. What to take to the hospital! When you can drink awful liquids or eat fatty foodstuffs regularly. I'm thankful we have some years under our belt.... and I agree... you do get your lessons in the first year.... Whether you continue them will make a huge difference in your success years out!!

    Lapband working or not

Because she is a fickle bi*•h. I also can eat the same item at the same time the next day and have no success??? Ten years later and I do not have some foods figured out!!!

To diet or to do WLS

My take is you need to be ready to change your life. That is a big undertaking. The Wls kinda "guides" you .... however it is truly up to your personal compass how much you intend to stay focused on a different set of behaviors. A long term decision. It is a learning curve to me. Ten years later I still have to try and make good choices. No one is perfect.... and they shouldn't be.... but the willingness to give up the control food has on you is all your decision after the " honeymoon " period. Many are successful... especially compared to just dieting... but be realistic that you have to think and do differently . Hoping for all the best!

    Banders #7

Hope the swimming helps treadmiller Can I just say it is so nice to read about working Lapland's? So much negativity elsewhere on these boards. Thus is a nice group that is fortunate to have luck with the band. I do see many others having issues. Hopeful for more years!

3 weeks out and horrible diarrhea

Just for today. If you are dehydrated. Perhaps watered down pedialyte Until the dr can advise on Monday. Worked for me

VET'S FORUM. What the %^&* is going on around here?

Well ... now there are new people that are becoming Veterans every day... so this can be a safe place to just relax and talk about things that come up years down the road.... I suspect some leave from regains..... Personally that is always challenging for me. Good months. Not so good months. Ps. I do know there was some kerfuffle months back. But I am ignoring it.

    Pissed Off and Rebelling

WLS seems to require a life long commitment. It almost trains you in the first year. How and when and how much to eat. Then. You get to try to live like that ... for life... 10 years later and I still try everyday. Mostly successful... no one is perfect!!
