  1. Husbands!...Mine supports me but is not overly excited. Maybe because we've been married almost 22 years. Congratulations on your approval!

    Trouble With Clearance

I think you should be honest with your therapist. I'm guessing the therapist may have known or at least felt you weren't being completely honest. I know it may seem like things are horrible now but imagine if you don't work through your issues and have to deal with them at the same time as learning to live with a new way of eating and a new way of coping, if you've turned to food in the past. The psych consult isn't there to get more money out of us (at least in most cases - lol) it is a measure used to help us long term. Be grateful, as hard as it may be, that you have this opportunity to deal with things before surgery. I'm guessing a lot of the posts we read from those who are unhappy with their band are really unhappy with something else and thought the band would be a fix-all. Think of how they must feel right now! I have surgery Friday so it may be easier for me to say these things right now since I am not in your shoes. You are right that the pre-op diet is not easy but be honest with yourself and honest with your therapist and find out why it is hard for you, it can only help you in the long run. Vent any time you want! Good Luck!

    Newbie Here

What is considered the Quad-city area in IL? I live in southern WI and am being banded on Friday.

    Sleep Study

I already used a CPAP so I didn't need one. I think a lot of it depends on your doctor and other health factors.

    Joining Groups

Are you on a computer or a mobile device? On the computer there should be a join this group button. The mobile site is not as user friendly as the computer version. Although I am a member of the Springers group I am not able to read any of the posts from my android. It asks for a password if I even get that far. The mobile app is still new and hopefully these things will be worked out. Hope this helps some!

    Sunday Morning Rant

B52 I want to thank you for hanging around and giving advice! I am halfway to my goal weight and have yet to be banded. I know banding is a tool I need to keep the weight off and although I do not look forward to some of the possible side effects I know it is something I need. I enjoy reading your posts because you say it like it is, we all need encouragement but without reality, encouragement won't do us much good! Thanks again for all the information you provide to all of us on this site!
  9. My3 I'm right there with you! After I received my approval I was eating a lot of things that I should not have been. Now I am on my pre-op diet and losing again. This is one of the reasons I know I will need to keep current with my follow up appointments after surgery. From my pre surgery group classes I have learned that it is really around the 1 1/2 - 2 year mark that most people start to have a little trouble. By that time they have usually lost most or all their weight and don't feel the need for support groups, etc. Lets keep helping and educating each other!

    75 And Counting

The Wisconsin Dells is the Water Park Capital of the world (or so they claim!) It started out as a tourist area because of the beautiful area around the river. Over many years it has grown and is an area with many indoor and outdoor waterparks as well as other tourist type activities including zip lines, boat rides, and shopping!

    Need Help With Vegetables

I'm on my pre-op diet and tried something new last night. I really like onions cooked in with things as well as onion rings and awesome blossom type onions. Last night I cut an onion similar to how an awesome blossom would be cut, sprayed some foil with non stick spray and tented it around the onion. I left it in the oven for 45 min at 350 and it was great! It probably does not need to be in the oven that long but it was my first time and that is just what I tried this time.

I am also looking forward to riding roller coasters and not worrying whether or not the harness is going to fit! I have not been on a zip line but also am hoping to give it a try. I don't live too far from the Wisconsin Dells and hope to spend some time there this summer doing things I was too large to do last summer!

    Introductions? Yes Please

During this time, I also had two kids (now 16 and 12)....My son was diagnosed with very high functioning autism... Hi Jennie, My kids are 16 and 13 and my son is "mom diagnosed" with PDD-NOS. I am a special ed aide and everyone that knows my son and is familiar with autism says he is on the spectrum although he has never had a formal diagnosis. Because of my sons sensory issues he had to be sedated for earwax removal today. The nice thing about it for me is it was at the same place I will be having my Lap-Band so it was a chance for me to see the area and get a little familiar with it.

    Oh No!!! Bad News

I am also glad you mentioned it to your nurse. I will keep you in my prayers!

    And Of Course!

Ummm...it's surgery people! Did you think they did it with you fully clothed? Just remember everyone there does this all the time...you don't have anything they haven't seen before! I know it's embarasing for us but they do cover us up as much as possible to protect our dignity! When I had my EKG today I was very impressed with the way the nurse was able to keep my modesty intact while she applied everything.
  16. I sent you an invite, I hope it works. Funny thing is on my adroid it always tells me I do not have permission to view springers posts. I have not idea why, I can on my computer and can view other things on my phone.
  17. Along those lines...I was wondering about taking communion...Pre-op and post-op will it mess me up? We have wine and grape juice (I usually choose the grape juice) and a glueten free bread. Any thoughts?...We commune weekly.
  18. For those of you who are not already in "Springers" go to the groups tab at the top of the screen and look for us. It is for people who have (had) surgery in March, April and May. Lots of good conversations going on over there!

    Diet Prior To Surgery?

I would also recommend checking with your doctor. If it helps knowing the clinic I work with has recently added unlimited non-starchy veggies to their pre-op diet. Based on research they feel it does not make a significant difference...I would still check with your doc though.
  20. I'm another one for the 13th. I've had my surgery scheduled since early this month and the closer it gets the more things I have running through my head. I've even thought of staying off this site for a while and trying to think about other things. Just not sure what is best for my mindset right now. I think of after having surgery as "Being on the other side", moving from pre-band side to post-band side. Or maybe it is more like a Wednesday, when you start looking forward to the weekend and not dreading the week ahead. Does that make sense to anyone else?

A Horrible? Ting Happened To Me

GLove, I wish you the best and yes please read our posts and chime in sometimes. You have put a lot of thought into this and with the reasons you have stated it makes perfect sense to me that you not have the lap-band at this time. You do need to think of yourself right now. I understand with two parents recently diagnosed with Alzheimers it would be extremely difficult to keep all of your needs after surgery in the forefront. Also thanks about the advice of following Elcee, B52 and Corrigan. I also have found B52 cuts through the BS.
  22. I sent an invitation to you. If you are using the app on a phone I really don't know. The app on my android is nice but not as user friendly as the web site. You can also go to the group tabs at the top of the page and look for us. We are a public group.
  23. I would be worried that you're not getting enough Protein also. Do you know how many grams a day you are getting? My pre-op diet has 95g per day and my post-op has 60-100g per day. Also how many calories are in your CIB when mixed with skim milk? The Protein shakes I have have 100 cal per 8 oz and 15g of protein. Since I haven't looked at CIB I don't know how it compares. My understanding is we have to make our calories work for us by getting our protein in first. I'm also worried that by getting only 320 cal a day you may be messing up your metabalism. I think you should give your doctors office a call and ask for advice before your first fill. Hope this helps!

    Diet Prior To Surgery?

I have been using Protein Shakes for a few months as part of my 6 month diet. I swear I could blow away the entire town! lol Recently I started using Metamucil 1x a day (liquid form mixed with Water so it helps me get my water in) to help keep me stay regular, it hasn't been a cure all but it seems to help reduce the gas a little. Sorry if that was TMI but I think that is what we need from each other!
  25. Most docs, but not all, put us on a pre-op diet for about 2 weeks. The idea is to shrink the liver and make surgery safer. Diets vary by doctor, most seem to include protein supplements, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles. Others also include veggies, fruit, yogurt and a small Lean Cuisine type meal or a small amount of protein from meat. I think all avoid carbs as much as possible. Once you figure out how to join "Springers" there are several nurses in our group that can probably give you a better idea of why most doctors order a pre-op diet. I have my surgery the same day as you and start mine on March 30th.
