For me refried beans are on the mushie stage so I don't think you messed up big time if you kept them moist. My only concern might be that they are higher in fiber than you are used to at this point, but maybe that is actually a good thing!

Thank you for your post. As a newly banded person I really appreciate that you used this opportunity as a teaching moment for us - not a negative warning! This helps us stay positive while learning about watching for those possible complications!

Do you have any post op appointments with a nutritionist? I was banded on the 13th and have post op appts with my nutritionist at 2, 4 & 6 weeks post op with more later but farther apart. I have only seen her once since surgery but it was very helpful for me.

I've never heard of liquacel. What is it? I guess that means no for me!

Being Treated Different Already Before The Band!
gottobeme replied to ilikebunnies's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There are so many legitimate reasons for choosing to tell or not tell people you are having WLS. This is a perfect reason not to tell! I am very fortunate to have a lot of supportive people in my life who know. I have not tried to hide it from anyone....With that said, there are a few people in my life that I don't see very often that can be negative. Maybe if they were more positive they would be lucky enough to see me more often! -
3Rd Day Out And No Desire To Eat.
gottobeme replied to brokenwings's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I really think days 3-4 are the worst. The thought of some things even seemed to turn my stomach at that time. It gets better every day. I'm thinking it was probably somewhere around day seven that things really started getting better for me. Hang in there and remember it gets better every day! -

2 weeks post op. 70 lbs down before surgery, down 10 more for this pic. -
I had it. I bought a pair of Dansko Professional clogs - they took care of it! Not over night mind you but they are wonderful. I always thought a "soft" shoe would make things feel better - not the case. Dansko's have a hard sole, take a little getting used to and are not cheap. They are however the best investment you can make in footwear! I now have 4 pairs and if I wear other footwear for more than a day or two I can tell a big difference.

Having Second Thoughts
gottobeme replied to hopingtobebandedsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with all that has been said. I was banded a little over two weeks ago and had my post op today. I will probably be on this forum less and less over time. It has been a great source of information but I find myself on here all the time and I need to get away from my computer and get out working in my yard among other things. I still plan to read and post but it's time to get on with my life. I think this is probably common for most of us on here. -
125 Members So Why Are We So Quiet???

I did send an email. The reply was that group forums are not accessible yet on mobile devices. The hope to have it fixed in a few weeks. -
5 Weeks Post Op And Feeling Discouraged
gottobeme replied to JanellesMommy8210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Along the same lines think of it as a journey. It's about the journey and not the destination! Along the way remember to appreciate all the little changes like buying new underwear because yours is now baggy in the butt! Here are a few of my little victories along the way. Remember to take time to appreciate these - kind of like stopping to smell the roses. My wedding ring is now too big (married 22 years on May 19th) Shopping for clothes with my 16 year old daughter in the same store. I now like the way I look with earrings that dangle. (Before my face was too fat and it looked silly!) I am able to paint my toenails! I am able to walk up and down stairs without getting winded. -
What Do They Ask At The Psych Eval?
gottobeme replied to lovex5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember some questions on mine (true / false) like I hear voices that tell me to hurt myself, or hurt other people. Most of them make you wonder why in the world you need to take a test that asks you questions like this. I really found it amusing - nothing to fret about! -
Several years ago I had a bout with cryptosporidiosis and ended up in the ER to receive IV fluids because of dehydration. From what you are describing it sounds like you are dehydrated. I was warned that the number one problem post op is dehydration so if your not getting your water and protein in it will not get better. I agree with Jess55 you need to call your doc. If you feel too sick to keep things down your doc needs to know, there are meds that can be prescribed that could help. It's amazing how much better you feel when you're well hydrated - I speak from experience!

I haven't used a crock pot since I was banded but they are a great way to cook chicken and if I have the time I prefer to cook it this way. I just boil the chicken in Water on the stove top. I like to overcook it so it just kind of falls apart or shreds easily (the crock pot is great for this). I still put it in the Ninja to make sure it is a good mushy consistency for now.

I normally walk to and from school (a little over 1/2 * each way) oops...* 1/2 mile

I'm not a teacher - I'm a special ed aid for a 2nd grader and a 4th grader with crossing guard and recess duties. I had my surgery on Friday the 13th and returned Monday the 23rd. The 10 days off worked well for me. I normally walk to and from school (a little over 1/2 each way) but have still been having my husband drop me off in the mornings. I find by the time I shower and get ready in the morning I'm a little to drained to walk to school. By the afternoon I am fine to walk home.

I just put chicken in my Ninja. You may need to add a little water or chicken broth but it's a lot cheaper than buying baby food.

Today I went shopping with my 16 year old daughter and we both bought shirts at Maurice's. Before I began this journey even the largest of their plus line clothes were too small for me. It just felt so good to get to try things on with my daughter in the next dressing room and then give each other our opinions on how things look. Especially when she told me one of the dresses I tried on was too big! Sharing time with your kids and not having to worry about them being embarrassed by your size is PRICELESS!!!!

No you didn't miss anything. I started the process back in August with my plan to be banded once I met my insurance/doctors requirements for surgery, approx a 6 month program. There was not an amount of weight I needed to lose beforehand but by working with the doctors and everyone on my team I lost 70 lbs prior to surgery. I have lost about 13 pounds since surgery.

? About Anesthesia With The Surgery
gottobeme replied to Kathie52's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was completely out before I was given any gas. I would talk to your surgeon and explain your past. They may have some insight as to what caused it and more than likely can avoid it happening again. About two weeks before I had my surgery my 13 year old had to be sedated for earwax removal (same place as my surgery). He has sensory issues and we had talked to the anesthesiologist about not starting the IV until he was in the OR and had the gas going. The anesthesiologist explained that sometimes with the gas only people "fight" going under. He talked to us and my son and was great helping him through the IV placement that he did himself. Hopefully some of this information will be helpful to you! -
It sounds normal to me. I know after I had my gallbladder out with an open surgery (scar is over 6" long) I was freaked out about the area below my incision and the fact that I couldn't feel it when I touched it with my fingers. You get used to it, of course at the time you don't want to have to get used to it!
-
How close is it to any of your incisions? I have had other surgeries and have had areas around my incisions where I lost feeling. They have gotten better over time but I think there is still some loss of sensation. I believe it is normal unless it is a large area and not near an incision.

Possible you had too much or had it too fast. I did have tomato basil soup around day 4 or 5. I use baby spoons now. It helps me slow down.
