does protein intake the first 2 weeks affect hair loss later on?
Darla5060 replied to TES's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made sure to get all my protein in and still had hair loss...but it stopped after about three months and grew back. It's distressing, but at least it's temporary. -
Don't do it! It's so not worth it. First of all, those food we used to eat don't taste anywhere as good as they used to, and also, they tend to make sleevers feel sick. I do have a sweet treat every once in a while, so do treat yourself, but not to cakey type things - they'll make you feel yucky! I eat a very tiny amount of ice cream every once in a while. I did have a cupcake for someone's birthday the other day and I felt like crap! I do understand the craving. Take care! And congrats on your AWESOME weight loss!!!!

Eating more than usual?
Darla5060 replied to kittenkate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've noticed the same thing!! But like PdxMan said, when I eat more protein and veggies, I eat less. And I have been eating cake! :/ Gotta stop that, but I do love that I can now eat a little bit of just about anything. I need to be careful, though - It's too easy to slip back into bad habits for sure. -
Holy moly, I don't know if I'm mentally prepared!

How exciting! It will be the best thing you ever did for yourself. Of course you're nervous! You'll do great! Congrats, and enjoy the ride. -
It's been a little over a year for me, too, and I totally understand where you were then and where you are now! Congratulations! It's wonderful, isn't it?!!!

I always have beef jerky handy for a snack. My sleeve loves it.
-
SO exciting! I'm very happy for you! This was the best decision of my life...you'll love it, too (after about the first month - don't get discouraged when it's hard at first, it gets a million times better!). Take care! Keep us updated!

Hi Bunnydee! I'm available to help. You can email me at baybooshka60@yahoo.com. Take care! You're doing amazing!! -
I'm with Ms. Skinniness - I went through the same thing. It will eventually pass!

My husband loves the Black or Green Ice Tea Isopures. They're a little hard to find, but he says those are his favorites. Good luck!!
-
I drank coffee about two months out...a really tiny cup, but I can drink more now after a year.

You're in a great place! I'm very excited for you! This surgery was the BEST thing my husband (also an Engineer, so I know what you mean! and I did for ourselves. I agree with Sassygirl that you need to be careful about early expectations - I felt really bad for about four days and even regretted my decision during that time (that has completely changed!) and then it took me about a month to get energy back. Another odd thing is that on the day of surgery, neither I nor my husband were nervous at all (he had the surgery five months after me). I think we got to the point where we were so ready for it that we were calm. Take care, and keep us updated after surgery!!!

newbie with questions.

Hi! One of the things that gave me diarrhea when I was in my first and second months out of surgery was mashed potatoes. You described exactly what I went through. I still get bad cramps and diarrhea every once in a blue moon and I'm a year out. That's the only side effect I've had from surgery is the occasionally bout of diarrhea. It's not fun! -
sleeved 12/31 not getting enough fluids!
Darla5060 replied to dromo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Cathy above - you literally have to sip water all day long at first. If you get dehydrated, you'll be back in the hospital! You won't have to do that forever, but do it now and take good care of yourself. Good luck!! -
My doctor required Isopure for the first four days after my surgery. I'm not a big fan, but I did follow my dr's orders then stopped drinking it after the four days, moving on to other protein drinks like Premier. My husband had the same requirement, but continues to drink Isopure now (he's five months out) because he likes it and likes the 40 grams of protein. He likes the green and black Ice Tea flavors.

Thank you! They sound delicious!

I was lightheaded often for the first three months after surgery, but never to the extent of passing out - that's scary! It may be because of the vitamins...the only way to tell is to go to the dr. Good luck! -
Count down to DEC 17 surgery date!

Just a couple more days! How exciting!! Yeah, the liquid diet is really hard. Good luck, sweetie!!! I'm happy for you! -
Sleeping was hard for me, too! And I had no energy. The good times are coming, I promise.

I can see why you'd be discouraged! I'm willing to be that you get more excited the closer to your surgery date, though. Congratulations on being approved, this will be the best thing you ever do for yourself! It was for me. Emotions will rise and fall, just enjoy the ride as much as you can. Good luck!!! -
Your hormones may be out of whack for a little while...just go with the flow, get lots of rest and focus on yourself and recovering. It's normal, and it'll pass.
