Bcbs Of Minnesota - Lap Band
Wait. I would not go for your appointments yet. If your BMI is not 40, You will need two comobidities and above 35 BMI and they are particular ones. Call your insurance company and ask them which ones that they accept. Then, perhaps after Thanksgiving and Christmas, you will have your BMI at 40 and you will not need to be concerned with the comobidities. It will be alot easier that way to. Make sure that your heighth is CORRECT because you may be shorter and then you calculated and this can help bring up your BMI>

Approval After Lap Band Surgery??
YOu only have one comobidity? I would be concerned. With BCBSI and most others, you need two. Call and ask for a copy of their policy to make sure that you qualify. I would hate for you to get stuck with a fat bill.

Seeking some info about Lap Band.
When I went yesterday for my first surgeon visit, she di dnot even want to talk to me to begin with because mine was 34.0 so you are going to have a hard time. Do you have insurance or self pay> Self pay CAN have it done if BMI is 30. Insurance does not approve until 35.

BSBSI
loretta\ Baconton Georgia replied to loretta\ Baconton Georgia's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery StoryI know thatt they do require two comobidities. your cordinator did not tell u that? I have sleep apnea, displidema. and oestearthritis. and a BMI of over 35 so I should be approved by the policy I do qualify but I went today and my cordinator told me that BCBSI is a tough one and that they approve very few peopple. I hated to hear that but I will darn sure appeall if they reject me.

Persuing the lap band...just starting out
hey jamie. I am also just getting started. My appt with the surgeon's office is tommorrow. can not wait! [ quote name=Jamie83' timestamp='1320384163' post='1681755] Hello, My name is Jamie and I live in Spokane, WA. I am just starting out in this process to get the lab band. My husband may also do this too. Either way, I am researching and watching you tube videos. I called my insurance and they said that it is covered but will need to go through a pre-authorization process. I called the surgeon's office and they said to start out by going to the info seminar. That seminar is coming up this tuesday the 8th. I am hoping to leave with a better idea of what things need to be done first and then hopefully will be able to get a consulation with the surgeon soon after the seminar. I have no clue how many people usually attend those seminars or how far out the surgeons are booked. Of course I would like it to be sooner than later, but I know it can often take 6 months or so to get everything in place. My insurance company didn't say that there was a required waiting period but she did say that by the time people usually get everything done for the authorization process and pre-op testing that it is usually 3-6 months. Anyways, I am looking forward to getting to know some people who have been through it already and hopefully meet some buddies that are going through the same stage I am. Jamie

The two big F's
having fear is a part of who we are. I am just going through the process of getting it approved. I fear that I will not get approved. I fear that I have worked all year for this and will not loose my weight, and that I will disappoint myself. It is natural but you have to make yourself think positive. it is har but you can do it. and so can I!
