Prolapse. Will Have Lap Band Surgery Again.

I learned that I had a slight prolapse back in March. He took all my Fluid out for about a month, and then he started slowing adding fluid back in. I probably got 5 fills (2 under fluro). I went for my 2nd fluro today, and it has gotten worse. He said I could either let it rest for a few months to see if it corrects itself or have surgery to reposition the band. I am self pay so everything is out of pocket. I'm looking at $8,500.00 to get it fixed since he doesn't have to replace the band itself.

I don't know what to do. I hit my goal back before I had this problem but I've gained about 20 lbs. since the prolapse. I do not want to ever go back to where I was before so I guess I will pay to have it redone this January. This really stinks though. I was hoping my insurance would pay for some of the hospital bill ( the doctor's bill is only $1,000.00), but I doubt they will since this surgery isn't covered.

Anybody else have this problem where they had to have it fixed?

I haven't had this problem yet, but I figured that I'd wish you luck! :) I'll be interested to read the replies to see what to do in case this happens to me.

Loretta, I wonder if your insurance won't cover this, being that it's a medical condition, not a new surgery. Take some time

and check with them.

I had this problem. I was devastated. I had all the fluid removed for 8 weeks and 1cc at a time (every 2 weeks) my doc slowly refilled me. I am still not as full as I was when I felt like i had ideal restriction but I am now afraid to have it that tight again. I have a 14cc band and I am currently at 10cc. I was at 11.5cc when I had the issue. I sometimes think about adding more but I am afraid It will prolapse again. At 10cc I feel restriction and it does help with not over eating but I am hungry soon after. I guess I figured its better to be a little loose and not gain weight. I put on 15 pounds when I had zero restriction. I have lost that 15, but for the last few months all weight loss has stopped. I'm ok with that as long as I can keep my band. I am 20 pounds away from my goal and I realize that I still need it. I did have a scope done and everything was ok. I need to decide if I want to tempt disaster and add more fluid or just keep fighting the snack time temptations. My doc says I will be ok to add more fluid and I shouldn't have any issues but my concern is very real, I cant afford to miss work or pay for a repair.... good luck and I hope this helps. Please keep us posted.

Thank you. I am mad/upset, but I figured this would have to be done. The bulge above the band was getting smaller the last fluro he did, but yesterdays was bad. When I drank the liquid, it looked like a balloon. I was hoping if I let it rest for a few months that maybe it will go away, but I've already wasted like $1000.00 on fills and fluro just to have to have it all removed. I don't want to do that again so I guess I will have to pay to have it repositioned.

how did you realize you were having a problem? How did you know you were bulging again? could you feel it or was it just from the scope? I always have concerns that I may be bulging and not know it. I just assume I am loose and that is why I can eat regularly and pretty much anything.......(not a lot) but anything at all will go down with out problem as long as i eat slow and chew properly. Thanks for the post its very helpful for everyone.

Sorry. I just saw this post.

Back in March, I realized I was a little too tight. I went to have 1 cc removed. Well about three days later, I woke up and it hurt to swallow anything. I didn't go to the doctor until the following day because I just thought I was getting sick or something. He removed all my Fluid and scheduled me under fluro. That is how he found the prolapse. I have been feeling fine so I thought it was getting better. I didn't really have pain or nothing when I ate so I didn't think it was that big of a problem.
