  1. Loingdavid, I dont know if it's the weight loss or the fact that im getting older (57),but I noticed a big change in body temperature since WLS. Im colder now, so glad I started buying cute cardigan sweaters and quilted vests, I also wear a cute long scarf daily and sometimes a knitted beanie. Makes all the difference ! ( I get most of my beanies at Goodwill, but Target has a great selection too, starting at about $8.00 )
  2. I love everything. Slipping between small spaces , painting my own toes, feeling strong and healthy, liking what I see in the mirror, skinny jeans ( !!!) and knowing that almost anything in the store will fit me without a problem. A recent big shocker ? Having my picture taken !! A new grandbaby, (pictures !) and a work related group photo, and Im happy and comfortable sitting front and center ! Shocking !

    Male attention freaking me out

If its any help, Im married, 4 grown kids, and Im not interested in anyone else either. But it does happen as the opposite sex is going to look at somebody/something that they find "attractive ". It s just human nature. I explained your post to my hubby and asked him how he would feel if he was a woman and this happened to him. His response ? "Id feel flattered, as long as it didn't cross a line ." So, theres a male opinion, they look at us, we look at them.......... human nature.

    Newbie needing positive vibes

Good for you for coming on this forum and asking for help !! I didn't have any if the "I'll never be able to eat normally again !" because I knew from talking to others and my research that I WOULD be able to eat normally, but it would be a "-new" type of normal and one I could easily accept. To put it in perspective, think if you were making vegetable soup and it called for veggies like big carrots, 1 cup of celery, and 2 cups onions etc. You have baby carrots, 3/4 cup celery, and 1 and 3/4 cups onions. Would you give up on the whole recipe ? Or would you just adjust a bit and substitute a little ? Thats what WLS is for me personally. I did give up most fast food and junk food (slowly), but learned to adjust my meals in a healthier way that I was still satisfied. Almost 4 yrs later, im still VERY happy that I got banded. Healthy, happy and love how I look and feel !!

    Ah... Goodwill/thrift shops

I love thrift stores too, im lucky to live wthin 10 minutes of 2 (!) Goodwills, I visit them each 1x a week and find great stuff !! (And I was a Value Village junkie before ours closed...........sigh....) My best deals ? A long cashmere scarf ( Nordstroms tags! ) $8.00, a cashmere sweater, $5.00, dark wash , slightly flared jeans , new ! $7.00 ! A new Levis jacket $6.00, ! Cute knitted beanies $2-6. II have a ton of bracelets $3-6 each, an expensive looking watch $14, and my temporary replacement wedding and engagement rings at $8.00 each. People says I dress very nicely, and I always tell them " Goodwill all the way !!"

    Starting over?

Sorry to hear your hubby is unwell, but sending hugs, prayers and good karma your way ! As far as the dogs go, your dog possibily is peeing on to mark you as his/her "territory "? Maybe leave a blanket or shirts with your scent and your husbands scent when you leave every day so they have a "security blanket " ? Just a thought ! Good luck !!

    First Restaurant Dinner Out?

8 weeks out, a Mexican restaurant, and I had a very bad experience. I took 3 tiny bites of the inside of a quesdilla, and I think it was the 3 tiny sips of a margarita ( and I forgot the "no straws "rule ) that did it, but half came up in the bathroom, and the rest horribly in the parking lot. It was a looong time before i did that again ! A word of advice ? ALWAYS carry a plastic grocery bag or 2 in your purse. Always.

    Coconut oil

I haven't cooked with it yet , but I love it as a moisturizer for any dry skin , use it on dry feet with a pair of cotton socks. Safe for everybody including the elderly, babies and pets ! My little dog gets a teaspoon every night, vet appproved. Its great at removing makeup too ! If you use it to moisturize your hair a little bit goes a long, long way and takes extra time to wash it out, so plan accordingly. I also love a teaspoon of it to eat, but then I love anything coconut !

    Low Cal Snacks for Travel

Almonds, turkey jerky, tuna pks with mayo and crackers ( no refrigerator needed ) and my personal favorite, Sommersaults ! Crunchy little compressed sunflower seed snacks, my favorites are the Dutch Cocoa and the Pepper ones. Mmmmmmm. Also, ive never done it myself, but you can dry your own fruit in the oven. No preservatives, but at least you have control over it, etc. Same with homemade energy bites. Good luck !
  11. Lipstick lady, loved your post, funny but not funny !! I have a question though ! Is it just gastric bypass patients that have the loose bowel problem ? I noticed the ones that had the same problem were all gastric bypass people . Im banded, none of the major digestive problems unless I eat something like raw peanuts , cashews etc. Just curious !! ( Also, if had to carry an Emergency Bathroom Pack, Id include a couple of Depends , and a small bottle of hand cleaner. Can't hurt !!! )

    DO NOT DO IT

Im glad you posted your experience, its important to see all sides of a story. And while Im truly , truly sorry that you've had such a nightmare happen to you, I have to ask something. Knowing that obesity and all of its complications can kill you, and the problems you've had from the surgery can kill you, wouldn't you say that both situations carried a huge risk ? I dont see WLS surgery as a reason for you to "eat crow" for your family either. You did your research well, and had a surgery that could potentially save your life from obesity, as most of us did. I have no idea why your family was so against you doing a last resort surgery to get healthy (not skinny !), but thats another story for another day. I wish you well.

    Greek yogurt:( yuck !

I don't like yogurt either, I think it tastes like flavored cold cream, but I love Noosa yogurt ! A unique product, so good ! Only about 8 flavors, each one has a different amount of protein, so google for more info. I personally love the coconut, my hubby likes the blueberry. Mmmmmmm. And while I dont eat it daily, I still get plenty of protein in almonds, lean meats, beans , raw spinach, etc

    Giving up

Okaaaaayyyy, let's start over ! Hi Lord Justice , welcome to the WLS forum !! Lots of people have questions regarding dating, relationship etc, but usually their 1st post doesn't start out with " I've lost 140 lbs and I can't find anyone, so Im giving up." That just starts a negitive thread. How about a little more info regarding YOU ? Where are you in your daily life ? Any issues with your WLS ? Hobbies and interests ? Favorite positive thing about losing weight, or best exercise habit ? Job, pets, travel, family ? Do you have a "bucket list ?" Favorite books, tv shows or movies ? As we get to know you , you 'll find that people are more willing to help when they feel its a fair " give and take ". Just sayin '. Hope this helps !! Have a good day !!

Who say's the band doesn't work?

P.S. Oh wait ! Thats not all ! Last week we picked up our grown son at the airport, we hadn't seen him in person in 2 years. ( I ve lost my last 20 lbs since we last saw him, im now at a comfortable 142 lbs ) His 1st comment ? " Mom ! You've gotten so skinny ! I did'nt recognize you, and I couldn't understand why this little blonde lady was calling my name !!!" Yep ! I love my band !!!

Who say's the band doesn't work?

I love my band, December 2015 will be 4 years ive had it. Negatives ? Having to rethink my food habits, lots of water , exercising 3-4 x a week. That's it for negatives !!! Positives ? Loving how I look and feel from rethinking my food habits, lots of water, exercising 3-4x a week. That is all.

    Bummed and angry

For entertainment value, I love reading "Historical cookbooks ", and yes some of my favorites have been based on southern cooking. I love reading about history of the recipe, the who, what and why of how it became a family favorite. I start drooling over descriptions of huge country breakfasts, lots of buttermilk fried chicken, hot homemade biscuits loaded with butter, and almost any dessert, chocolate or otherwise . I could almost lick the picture, the descriptions are that good ! My all time favorite cookbook ? My Mothers Southern Kitchen by James Villas and his late mother Martha Pearl Villas. I checked it out so many times at the library that when I found it for $3.00 at a book sale, I couldn't pass it up ! So Dub, and all the others Southerners, I totally get where you're coming from foodwise. If im ever reincarnated, im going to come back as a southern food critic ! No. Lie.

    Bummed and angry

Although we cook at home 95 % of the time, I can still eat at any restaurant, I just choose foods that are easy for me to eat , and eat slowly and chew well. You will learn a whole new way to approach eating, but what you gain in knowledge, you 'll lose in weight. Good luck !!!
  19. Every journey, no matter where you go will have a few speedbumps and detours. You just met one of yours. So do you immediately end the journey ?? ? Nope. Onward and downward !!

    Living outside my comfort zone!

1-Happy birthday ! 2- Zip lining AND free stuff at the makeup stores ? Next time count me in ! And what have I done after surgery versus before surgery ? Where do I start ? Ran 2 miles without stopping, walked ( and played !) an 18 hole golf course almost the whole way. Push ups ! Pilates classes. And in the next year or 2 ? A 3 day pack trip on horses, up and down a mountain. Bucket list !!!

    Exercise 'guilt'

Good for you for helping your kids with their homework, but what about your "homework "? Being a strong, healthy mom who takes good care of herself sends a message to your kids about alot of things, including balance, self respect , and the need for a little ME time . So how about setting the timer for 45 minutes, stretch some, put in a workout cd, and then cool down time ? Win win !!!!

Maybe I should not have surgery?

You might want to take your hubby to therapy too, because if his family has treated you like this for 5 long years, can you imagine what he had to grow up with !? Id hazard a guess that he's a victim of emotional abuse from very early childhood , and his sister too because of their mother !! (Abused herself ? I think so !) If he learned to ignore the abuse to survive, and just shuts down as a coping mechanism, you CAN'T make him defend you, because he never learned how !! This problem goes waaaaayyyyy beyond his capabilities, but a good family therapist could teach him the right and best ways to move forward, and how to support you and have a strong , healthy marriage with appropriate boundaries. The mom is probably a lost cause, the sister knows nothing different, so since its the only way she's ever seen a situation handled, she has no knowledge /insight into anything better . Get your surgery for yourself, but just as importantly, get some therapy for BOTH of you for a healthy lifestyle and marriage !! Good luck ! (Its amazing what you learn as a foster parent.............. )

    a maintenance NSV

Sorry to hear you're having a crappy week, I get the whole "old dog " thing, its hard to see them struggle but good to know you gave him a long happy life with lots of love. As far as the evil horse owner ? Im right there with Elode, place an add stating the real truth about the horse ! Its not about the money or the evil new owner, its about saving your sweet horse and a new owner alot of future grief. If nothing else, you'll feel better that you did everything you could for a horse that has no say so in this whole situation. Can you tell Im an animal lover ?
