  1. I have Rheumoid Arthritis and I had the Gastric Sleeve surgery, almost 4 years ago. I have not gotten back on any of my meds. I am doing great. Every once in a while with the weather, I will take either tylenol or advil to help with the stiffness in the morning. Four years out and I am feeling great! Good luck to you!
  2. I am a year and 3 months out. I had diabetes and RA. I am til this day, not being treated for RA or diabetes. Losing the weight has helped me tremendously. I just went to my RA doctor and she still has not put me on any meds. I had one flare up with my hip and they gave me Prednoise, but she seems to think it was not RA, but spasms. I am totally happy with my sleeve. Now, just to work and keep the weight off. I am now a member of Anytime Fitness and enjoy my workouts. Good luck to you!
  3. I lost 30 pounds in the first two and one-half weeks. I am now 6 1/2 weeks out. I asked my doctor if this was normal, I was worried that I lost too much, but he said it was fine and that I had a lot of fluids. BUT after the big loss, I stalled for about 2 1/2 weeks and gained a few pounds, I was very discouraged. I weigh and record my weight on Saturdays and this pass Saturday I weighed and lost 4.6 pounds, now the walking is paying off. So the moral of the story is, just hang in there when you stall it will definitely come off. Keep up the good work and good luck!!

    What can happen if....

I am so glad you mentioned this, because I hate protein drinks, I would gag just by the smell of them, so I really never had shakes, but I love milk. I am now 4 1/2 weeks post op and my doctor tells me to eat meat, fruits and vegetables, so I am now getting my protein from my food. I lost 30 pounds within the first 2-2 1/2 weeks, and now I have been stalling. I am walking a mile a day, it very frustrating that the scale won't go down, it actually went up a few pounds but came back down. I didn't have this surgery just to loss 30 pounds. After hearing everyone else's stories, I guess its normal to stall, but the the scale needs to move.
  5. Thanks everyone for the encouragement, I am glad I am not alone.... and yes it is that time of the month...LOL, so maybe that has a play in it too. I will keep you posted and you do the same.
  6. Thanks to all of you for your input. I am now almost four weeks out and my diabetes is alot better, still not on any meds, but my blood sugar is now coming down. I am sooo excited to know that I will be off my meds. And I am 30 pounds down.....whoo hoo!!
  7. I had my sleeve on February 18, 2011, it will be four weeks on Friday. I have lost 30 pounds within the first two weeks, and then stalled and now I have gained 5 pounds. I am so upset, although at my post-op visit yesterday with my doctor, he didn't seem too concerned. I had only liquids for the first week, thickened liquids for the second week, then mushies and now he wants me to eat meats, fruit and vegetables. Haven't been able to eat alot, but this week, I can eat a little bit more. Don't know what I did wrong, but it is very upsetting that I have gained 5 pounds, of course I lost 30 in the first two weeks. I didn't have this surgery to gain weight. Has anyone else had this problem???? Please Help!!!
  8. I am 13 days post-op and have lost 30 pounds. I am very concerned because I can't get my protein drinks down, my taste is off and everything I try another shake, I gag and want to throw up. In a few days I will be able to start mushy foods, and hopefully I will be able to get some in with that, as well as drinking my milk. I have rheumoid arthritis and diabetes. After my surgery for about 4 days, my diabetes was 102, 104, which was great. Now almost every morning it is 166, 168 (which it was before surgery and then I take meds and it goes down) and in the afternoon 182, and I am only on thicken liquids right now. Now of course right now I can't take any pills, so I am worried about my numbers. Has anyone had diabetes, that they can share their experience with me post-op.

That is awesome Bloomin, that is very encouraging. As I said I am scheduled for February 18th and lately have not been having any doubts, after listening to all of you. Keep up the good work and I will update after my surgery.

That is exactly what I am hoping for, to get off meds. I am on Janumet twice a day and I do have a call into my internist. Great to hear that you are not taking any pills. Well I will keep you updated after my surgery on Feb. 18th, and you do the same. You did make me feel alot better. Thanks!
  14. Thanks, I am new at this, so still learning...LOL

  15. I am scheduled to have my sleeve surgery on February 18, 2011, with Dr. Thomas Borland in New Iberia, Louisiana. I am excited, but at times I want to back out and I am sure this is normal for most people. There is no support group that I have found in my area. I weight 230, I am a diabetic and have rheumotoid arthritis. My goal is to get off my medicines, but worried that I will not be able to take them for a period of time. I am so close to cancelling my surgery, but I really want to do this. I have talked to people that has had it and has nothing but good things to same about it. If anyone that has or had diabetes or rheumotoid arthritis before sleeve surgery please help!!
