Julie- I think our doctors post op diets may be similar, while I did not "see" cottage cheese in my list- within the first week we can go onto thicker things like creamy soups before mushies start. Obviously nothing with big chunks though

I was banded Wednesday- no real big issues since. Slight gas pain but still manageable. Running into trouble with choices of liquids to have. Jello, pudding and shakes make me gag (they did Before surg too, nothing new) So I have been living on water, Chicken Broth, low Cal/low sugar apple and cranberry juice and Sugar free hot chocolate with a scoop of Unjury powder. Not many choices, but I haven't gone crazy yet! I see some have tried cottage cheese- has anyone here tried that!? I tried a spoonful this afternoon, "chewed it" until it was liquidy then swallowed. At one week, this coming Weds- I get to start puréed diet. Very excited for that!

Banded at 1pm today. Everything has gone very smooth! All of the hospital staff have been super great. Feeling ok, just super tired and groggy. At this point I am only allowed ice chips but eating or drinking is not even a concern for me right now. My ONLY complaint is that I have a super obnoxious (non-banded) 'roommate' who has called a good 15-20 people since about 6pm, she's loud and rude to the very sweet nurse we have. hehe. She even gave one person a very detailed over-the-phone recipe for her own spaghetti sauce. Omg!! Not much pain from surgery, but this lady is bound to send me into migraine mode. good luck to all, I know I am very excited to have finally started this part of my journey!!

    January 2013 Bandsters!

I am getting banded on the 16th! Like I mentioned in a previous my post, my Doctor/Surgeon does not require a pre-op diet, but after seeing how many that do- I have created my own liquid-only diet!! I figure it will only help- maybe shed a few extra pounds and hopefully make post op a little easier!! Getting excited and nervous at the same time!! 9 more days!!!

    January 2013 Bandsters!

My work does offer disability insurance, I was just hoping not to use it. Last time I needed it (maternity leave - 7 years ago ) it only paid about 55% of normal pay. I have saved about 5 1/2 - 6 weeks of complete time paid off so I should be good. My doctor ( we see a doctor regularly, and the surgeon only once or twice before surgery) said 4 weeks off, but I am thinking I may need to describe my job in a little more detail for him!!! Even in an emergency- I cannot leave the premises of my job until another staff comes to relieve me- its the law. I am just nervous that if I go back too soon and something happens- I can't immediately get to a doctor. I am confident everything will go smoothly, I just need to be ready for the 'what-if's'

    January 2013 Bandsters!

I am a January Bandster too! January 16th is my surgery date. My doctor does not require a pre-op diet, just one last weight check on the 9th!! I am very excited! I am a little concerned with the recovery period though. My job knows about the surgery and I have saved enough sick time so that I will be getting normal paychecks instead of relying on disability insurance which I would be entitled to if I needed it.. I was told my last pre-op class that we can not lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk for 4-6 weeks. I work in a home with developmentally disabled individuals of whom I have to lift on a daily basis. We have some things that help us lift but there are times when we lift 150-180lbs of 'dead weight.' Has anyone that has had surgery gone back to a job with heavy lifting and how did it go for you!? Best of luck o all of the 2013 Bandsters!! We can do it!!
