Possible to be anorexic after gastric bypass?? Help...
Matt Z replied to countryrae2001's topic in Food and Nutrition
Anorexia is a mental disorder, it's possible you have it... only way to be sure is going to be to sit down with a professional and have them evaluate you. I'll leave it there, I can get into some of the specifics, but given I'm not a doctor or licensed therapist, anything I tell you is going to be generalized and if you have a legitimate concern you really should check it out. It's also possible that you are just learning your new digestive system. But again, might be best to have a professional give you the 411 on that. -
Possible to be anorexic after gastric bypass?? Help...
Matt Z replied to countryrae2001's topic in Food and Nutrition
I buy mine on the BariatricPal store https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/patchmd They aren't "cheap" but the cost isn't prohibitive by any nature. You put them on in the morning, leave them on for at least 8 hours and that's it. There is a lot of mixed feelings about the patches, lots of people refuse to admin they work, stating that it's impossible for the vitamins to be transmitted transdermally, that there are no tests/studies/etc. So I figured I'd give them a proper test run, full with blood work etc. So with my surgeon, the head of nursing for my hospital and the head pharmacist, I was approved to try them out. I took once a week D vitamins, Daily B1 (which I no longer need to take) and that's it, everything else was provided by the patches. So, outside of my Vitamin D being low, every other tested level was perfect. -
Heart complications after surgery? Only 25yo

Elevated heart rate is also a symptom of dehydration. How's your water intake? Did they do a ECG/EKG while you were in the ER? -

Possible to be anorexic after gastric bypass?? Help...
Matt Z replied to countryrae2001's topic in Food and Nutrition
Sure it's possible, but, what you describe doesn't seem to be "anorexia" since you are TRYING to eat more. Now, if you were telling us that you are refusing to eat and had no intention on trying to eat... that would be anorexia. Keep your surgical staff and nutritionist informed, do your best and just keep trying to get to your goals. As long as you are trying and want to try... I wouldn't be too concerned about the "Anorexia" stuff. For Vitamins, you can try the PatchMD patches. I've been using them for a few months now and my labs came back good, my Vitamin D is a little low, but everything else was well within normal ranges. -
@Awkward customer I was banded back in 2011. I had no major *issues*, other than getting stuck on stuff, or the fact that leafy greens hurt. No slippage, no erosion, etc. I lost 70, then gained a little back here and there. I had stopped going to my surgeon, except for when I really needed an adjustment to my fill for whatever reason. But I got to a point where, I was tired of things not working right or having other issues where I shouldn't be having issues. So I dragged myself back into my surgeons office and told her I was a failure. I was surprised when I found out that not only were my outcomes normal, but that 2 of the main manufacturers of the band, no longer make them due to how over hyped and under performing the bands were. We discussed my revision options. I was revised to RYN March 21st. Best decision I've ever made... Truly wish I went bypass in 2011 and didn't mess with the band. When my surgeon was taking my band out, it was 100% completely encapsulated in scar tissue, it took them more than 3 times longer than it should have to get the band out! So glad I did!

Gains during a "stall" while working out... totally normal. Body fat% is what needs to be watched as well. (as stated above, but I hammer on this point SO OFTEN!) Just stick to your plans, hit your metrics and keep exercising and it'll eventually turn around.

Have you tried tea with honey instead of sugar? I've noticed natural sugars are much easier on my system post revision than unnatural sugars. Have you tried any of the calorie free sweeteners? Juice is allowed, just have to watch the calories, added sugars, etc. Calorie free drinks are where you really want to be looking. There are plenty of sweet tasting calorie free drink mixes, etc that you can use.

Do what I'm comfortable with or do as surgeon says?
Matt Z replied to Unsure133's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the option to revise from band to sleeve or bypass. I wasn't keen on having my intestines rearranged either, but to be honest, I couldn't tell you with any certainty if they have been or not... I know they have... but I have literally no sensation of them being rearranged. I wish I went bypass back in 2011. -
I legit only used the following out of everything I packed: Dry mouth spray - life saver for right after surgery when they won't let you drink anything Lip Balm - same reason Sweatpants Slippers Deoderant Cellphone with charger and extra long cable. Pillow Blindfold and Ear plugs - recovery rooms / wards are far from quiet! That's honestly all I used. I wore the same clothes out as I wore in.

Chewable fiber helps. Keep your water intake very high. If it's still bad or you are concerned, check with your PCP, Surgeon or Surgical Team and ask them what you can do, but typically Miralax is an approved item you can take to help.

Lol I’m right there with you!! I would risk it all Meh... Moe's is better, they actually have ground beef and, zero food poisoning issues. LOL

About to have lap band surgery—I have a couple ?? About drinking?
Matt Z replied to 90invjcc's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I had my band, I had no problem drinking anything at all. The lap band did literally nothing to prevent my drinking, nor were there any changes in my tolerance for carbonation. I mean, I legit, I had zero problems drinking the 3 liters of Hefe seen in the photo... -
Does the attention bother you?
Matt Z replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I like it personally, But I *TOTALLY* get the "why is everyone being nicer to me" thing. My first week back to work I noticed it, to the point where I was like... ok, is it me, or them, or both? Am I feeling better and thus seeing a more positive interaction or are people really being nicer? Or is a mix? Are people responding to me better because I'm carrying myself differently? I'm not hiding within myself any more, is that what's garnering these new, more positive reactions? I think it's a great mix of a lot of things. I know I feel better, I know I look better, I know I'm carrying myself differently and I'm interacting with these folks differently to some extent, even if it's not a conscientious decision to do so, that alone is going to change how people respond. Plus humans tend to "mirror" the person they are talking to, totally unconsciously too. So I think it's less that other people were disgusted with my appearance (I'm sure there were people), and more a reflection of how disgusted I was with myself. -
^All of this^ Measuring at the same time, doing the same things, each day are the best way to get the best measurements and allow for proper trend tracking. Don't stress too much about some slight variations. But yes, at this point you should be doing some strength training.

Something is wrong post skin removal, but not sure what.
Matt Z replied to SpaceCowboy74's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
@SpaceCowboy74 That's some crap right there. Have they scoped you since the issue started happening to be sure there was no erosion? I know I had issues with my band, everything as far as they could see was fine, until they went to actually remove it and the band was 100% completely encapsulated in scar tissue. I wonder if moving the port pulled on the tubing and got it wrapped around a part of your stomach or something some how... I wouldn't stop calling and asking for answers until you feel right again! -

Sunlight helps for certain areas, sadly the farther north (or south if you are south of the equator) you go, the more exposure it takes to get 1000 IU of D from the sun. Hell, in the Boston area, there are stretches of months where it doesn't matter how long you stay out in the sun, even fully nude, you won't make any D from the sun.

MUFFINS! And then after the muffins you should go over to my Poop thread and post how you fared there... get you some more post credits!

Post ops constant pain in food pipe
Matt Z replied to Thin&Heathy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It'll go away, they intubate when you are put under, so that pain in your throat is more than likely from that. It will go away, it just takes a little time depending on how damaged your esophagus is, I had a sore throat for 3 days and a sore on my lip from where the tube was rubbing for almost 2 weeks. -
While I can understand the thought about not thinking a restrictive only WLS wasn't right (I had the band in 2011, wish I went bypass back then) but you are only 10 days out. You really need to give yourself a bit of a break, and at least heal up first and get back into "normal" foods before you can really decide if you made the wrong choice. There are plenty of people that have great success with the sleeve. Just stick to your instructions and do your best. Don't focus on the whatifs and defeatist thoughts just yet.

Try altering the temp of the water to see if that helps any. Maybe some super cold water will help with swelling?

Congrats! Good Luck and here's to smooth surgery and fast recovery!
