  1. We'll I thought I could check in and share my story as when I started to research the sleeve surgery I ended up here and read all the wonderful success stories, so here is mine. I had diabetes, on insulin, uncontrolled, a1c was at the lowest of 9.2. High blood pressure, polycythemia, nerve damage in my legs, etc We'll my regular doctor told me not to have the sleeve, but if did anyway. Today I stay at 185 pounds, I'm 6 1 , it's the weight I went into the Air Force in 1977! I eat anything I want, I don't eat what anyone would call healthy. Lots of red meat, candy, bread, etc I can't tell you how the digestive process works after surgery but I can tell you that 2 weeks ago I had new labs done, now mind you a few nites ago I had 6 ice cream sandwiches for a evening meal, lol My wife was on me to get those labs done as she says I eat terribly. We'll my cholesterol was 92! Good cholesterol way up, triglycerides way down, bp 120 over 72. My doctor is amazed at this. I gave him a recap of my daily meals and he laughed, shook his head and said, well whatever your doing, it works! I feel wonderful and so much energy. What can I say? I would do it in a heartbeat again
  2. well time has flown by in the past 6 months. Can't tell you how good I feel since surgery. Down to 208, from 316. 44 pants to 34 pants, 3xl shirts to xl all good. 34 pants are baggy and can fit in 32's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!been along time since I wore 32 pants. LOL No more insulin, bp meds, cholesterol meds, none! Feeling wonderful. I can jump, climb, run, anything I used to do back several years ago, before I got sick. If your thinking of this surgery? It's a true winner in my book, other than not doing any buffet's. LOL I'm amazed at how good I feel and you will be also. Good luck
  3. Well it's been 4 months last thursday since my surgery and so much has changed. Lost 96 pounds so far, 3x shits to xl, 44 pants to 34, and the energy level is thru the roof. I still get sick when I eat or should I say feeling of upset stomach and sometimes I vomit, but other than that, I'm great! Wish I could of had this surgery 5 years ago. It's also fun to shop for new cloths. LOL
  4. Well it's been 6 1/2 weeks since my sleeve surgery. I'm amazed at my changes. Down 60 pounds today!!!!!!!!!! Dropped 2 pant sizes, 2 shirt sizes and the energy level is thru the roof!!!!! I even cleaned the garage today because I was bored. been working every day on my truck from morning until nite also. I've gotten so much done lately. Couldn't have proven it by me at week 1-3. LOL Alot is changing. Off all Diebeties meds, High Blood pressure meds, Cholesterol Meds and only take a vitamin now. As of last Tuesday could have eaten steak, but haven't gotten around to it yet. LOL That's not me or that's not whom I was before surgery. I would rather of eaten a steak than done alot of things, not anymore. Going out for baked Haddock tonite, My new favorite food. Yummmmmmmmmmmm. My only complaint is about the restriction feeling or full, or whatever it is when I eat. Doesn't feel good to say the least. Feels uncomfortable after. Like I have gas in my stomach. But the lifestyle change that has come is truly amazing to me. I hope everyone here whom get's the sleeve feels as blessed as I do at 6 weeks out!!!!!!!!!
  5. If your eating what your supposed too, getting the excersize you need, it's just a matter of time, when your body lets the weight go. We are not in a race to loose weight, but a lifestyle change. Stalls may freak some people out when it happens, but it's going to happen several times thru your weight lose journey wit the sleeve. I tell myself that I'm eating 10% of what I used to eat, I move and keep moving and all of a sudden I loose again. Seems that we get discouraged or impatient if we are not loosing 5 pounds a week. LOL Just stay focused and all will be good.
  6. I didn't loose any weight the first week or so. Don't freak out, look at what you used to eat at just one meal alone! You have to loose the weight, it's a scientific fact. Your body will let go of the weight when it needs too. I loose then stop, I don't call it a stall, I just stop. then all of a sudden, I'll loose 5 pounds. Like others here stated, STAY OFF THAT SCALE. I only weigh myself once a week, I don't need the head games playing with me anymore. Did all that before this surgery. LOL Good Luck, you will be just fine, and a hell of alot thinner n a few short weeks, I promise.
  7. I'm still having trouble wit the full feeling myself at 2.5 months out. Seems if I eat yogurt or cheese I'm ok, but I too hate that full feeling to the rim as you say. Last nite I came home after work and nuked a chicken thigh with rice. Ate 1/2 the thigh and two tablespoons of rice. Like you said, full to the rim. felt aweful. If I eat 1 egg for breakfast, I fel fine. I guess it take time to adapt to eating so little at a time when I used to eat a adult sized cow at one sitting. LOL I do eat about 6 times per day. yogurt for morning and afternoon snack and maybe a few peanuts in early evening. But my weight loss has been good so far, but slowed since the first few weeks. I will also try to eat smaller portions and see how that feels too. Good Luck!
  8. Good luck Capt. Darel on your very good choice! I'm also a CGC, Pilot, and hold a commercial license. I was also fat and could move very freely with my 300 pounds. When I was in my forties, people would be amazed at what I could do with my rather large frame. I didn't have fat hanging on me, I had lots of muscle and was big. No medical issues what so ever, except a bad knee due to a bike wreck. Fast forward to age 51, high blood pressure, High cholesterol, polysythemia, and diabeties! The weight finally got me. Pilot's license on verge of being pulled, same with CGL, and then my commercial license. The thought of loosing my ability to work was the breaking point. I went to a seminar and decided that the sleeve was the way to go. I'm down 73 pounds since Dec 5th 2011 and today I go to see my regular doctor that told me to diet and not do the sleeve. I told him that when I come back in feb. he would be amazed at the transformation. Blood sugar is under 100 always, BP is 120/80, and with the lack of taste for red meats, I'm sure my cholesterol is great too. This will open his eyes to weight loss surgery rather than treating all the bad symtoms of obesity! Good luck Capt. you made a smart choice!
  9. I was thinking the same thing, they lost money on me for 20 years now they have a chance to get it back. LOL Seriously, I order off the kids menu at our local pub on friday nite fish nite. 3 bucks and I take home the potatoe. Or like last saturday, we stopped at our favorite mexican resturant and my wife and I, split a taco special. Just asked for a extra plate. Seems most places that we have visited go out of their way to help us. But I don't do chains like "golden coral or china buffet" No good came from those places when I could eat before surgery and going there now and watching extremely obese people shovel piles of food in their mouths would just get me upset, to say it nicely. I'm such a cheap date now. LOL
  10. I've been cold since day 3 of my surgery. I was the guy that could sit on the ice all day with no gloves on, no hat and enjoy a balmy 30 degree day. Now I'm wearing long underwear, sweaters and still cold. Last nite I had the stove going and it was 86 in the living room and I had to have a blanket on. Sleeve surgery has turned me into a wuss. LOL

    I Am A Failure

You bet thats harsh. So is eating solid food a week or so out from surgery. Anyone that has this surgery did their homework and knows what can happen to them, sepsis, and death!!! Now thats harsh! So if you know you can kill yourself with this behavior and then post it? You better be prepared for a harsh comment! Don't expect sympathy from me for suicidal tendencies, you need professional help, period, end of story!

    Are You Eating Healthy?

Thank you Susan, I'll never go back to being whom I was. I learned my lesson for sure.

    Are You Eating Healthy?

I think I'm like the average guy here. I ate anything with fat, calories, cholesterol, and oil or butter. Thats how I got sick and how I got fat. Well know one could tell me anything different before all that. LOL I am a guy's guy. Let's have a beer and a big fat T-bone steak.LOL I developed diabeties that made my leg go numb, heart started to beat differently, on insulin and metformin with a A1C of 9.4, High blood pressure, cholesterol of 250, Yup a man's man. Cardiologist said that the diabeties would kill me soon, so the surgery risk was a moot point. fast forward one year, Diabeties gone, cholesterol below 150, Blood pressure 120/80 all with zero meds! I eat only healthy foods now, zero fried, no bacon, lean pork or beef, skinless chicken etc. I found out that there is a whole world of food thats healthy and tastes great! I've learned that anything in moderation is ok, but I'm careful as to what I put in my mouth. I have learned that I knew nothing about a healthy lifestyle until I almost lost my life. Congrats on your success as you do inspire others here!!! Including myself. Thank you for sharing.

    I Am A Failure

You weren't mean Pookyism, You spoke the truth. I don't even know what someone expects when they post a post like this. They need to be addressing this with a shrink and not here in my opinion. I'm here to help anyone whom needs it, but on the other hand, if they want to self destruct? They are on their own.

    I Am A Failure

My first thought is why would you write this here? So your cheating and trying to reverse everything that you have accomplished so far? I think you need to see a counselor. I mean, what do you want anyone from this forum to say to you, that you haven't already heard or know. There is nothing to say other than you need to see a professional about your problem.
  16. I think this is the best thread I have ever read here. I have stated so many times that this is a lifestyle change and not a race! We eat about 10% of what we used to eat, healthy choices, daily excersize, with that said, We can not fail! the weight will come off, maybe slowly, maybe faster. Depends on your body, when it lets it go. I lost the first 50 pounds really fast and easy, then the loss started to slow, now I loose 1-3 pounds per week at this point. The key to my understanding this slow down period is now I'm getting all the nutrients that I need to build muscle, not like the first few weeks where loss was muscle and fat. I'm now loosing fat! Just fat! I don't work out in a gym, I work at the things that I enjoy to do on a daily basis. I fish, work on my dump trucks, etc. Just move and keep moving. I can climb, run, walk, squat, whatever and it's getting easier. Yes the weight loss is helping, but I'm building muscle again in places that I lost that from being fat and not doing these things. Thats why the weight loss has slowed down. When I first was sleeved, I had figured I would be down to 230 by march 5th 2012, well I'll be down to 240 or so on March 5th, thats a long shot from 316 on Dec 16th 2011. LOL Your not a failure, your sleeve is not a failure, give it time. all the time it needs and concentrate on living healthy, eating only good food and being thankful for what we have done while making this a change in our lives that we can live this way for the rest of our lives.

Where Are All The Guys At?!?!?!?!?

We are here!!!!!!!!!!!!Just not alot to say most days I guess. LOL
  18. I too have trouble with meat, any kind of meat! I ate some venison sausage the other day, mind you a skinny piece and it didn't sit well. Feels like minor pain or upset stomach is my best way to describe it. Even fish does this to me. I ate some Soup my wife made last nite, has burger in it, same feeling so I gave the rest to the dog. The up side of this is my cholesterol is down, way down. LOL I do hope the feeling gets better with time though. Seems I only eat for energy anymore which in my head is far better than the way I used to eat. Yogurt, cottage cheese, creamy Soups all go down good, so I guess I eat more of those until my stomach tells me differently? I feel better that I'm not alone. LOL If that makes any sense. Pre op weight 316 down 70 pounds since Dec 5th.
  19. Was reading some of the posts here and realized that it has been two months and 5 days since my sleeve. I almost forgot about the time that has passed. I'm down 68 pounds and feel great! I read alot of the posts about others whom are starting their jouney and feel the pain the anguish that so many go thru. The post surgery shock I call it. Seems that after my sleeve surgery, everything changed. No more huge meals, rotten snack eating and I felt like I was missing something. I kept telling myself it was a lifestyle change and as of this week, it has been. Hell, I forgot how long ago I was sleeved. I chose to eat healthy foods and excersie daily, not on a treadmill or elliptical or bowflex, as I have them, they work great for hanging wet towels on from the hottub, but now I get up and move with my life. I feelt that if I started on the machines, I would feel like I used too and just fall of the wagon as I hate to use them. Literally hate it. So now I just move. Be it working around the house, on my truck, others equipment, anything that keeps me moving inside my realm of thing I like to do. Build things, fix things, hunt, fish, etc. It's been a rough first month or so and smooth sailing since for the most part. I would do this again in a heart beat! Blood sugars are normal, high blood pressure gone and really feel like I was lucky to cheat out death at a young age. I still have work to do on myself, but it's gotten so much easier that I can't beleive it's me anymore. When I was overweight and feeling terrible, I used to plan my moves in my head. Ok I'll walk here, but no further, need to rest some, ok lets do this again. i would purposely not do things that required alot of walking. Now I don't even think about it and just do it. Like it's effortless for me. Such a wonderful feeling to have again. I can't remember when I lost that years ago. I just know now that it's back and I want to keep it for the rest of my life.

    Sick Feeling

I experience the same nausea as you do. I asked my surgeon last week about this. he stated that it may be hunger pains and if I couldn't deal with it he would prescribe a antinausea for me. He also stated that it will pass with time.
  21. Thank you all for the kind words. Wish I could eat more. LOL but the sleeve is doing most of the work. LOL I do miss the all U can eat buffets. LOL
  22. I drink 3 cups a day, no restrictions from dr. But on the third cup I eat breakfast as my stomach gets a sick feeling, then all good.
  23. I don't understand the posts of "Im stalled and not losing weight". Whats up with that? It just gets me fired up when I hear this from others. I mean, come on, 85% of your stomach has been removed, we eat like birds and someone thinks something is wrong when they don't loose weight for a few days to weeks??? My so-called stall happened when I switched to mushy foods, go figure. Body needed to adjust to it. Took a week and back to loosing about a pound per day if I stick to good healthy food. If I were stalled for more than a few days, I would contact my NUT and look over what and when I put in my mouth. I guess I'm just venting here, but there is no quick fix to being fat. It takes our bodies time to adjust. If we all ate like we should have before the surgery, we wouldn't be fat in the first place. It's just simple math. I consumed a average of 6000 calories a day and now about 500 calories. Yes I may stall a few days but will loose the weight when my body says so!
  24. I think all of us were apprehensive prior to surgery. We do the research, read the fail rates on leaks, and read the success stories. I'm 6 weeks post-op and the real learning came in the first two weeks after my surgery. I realized how much food played a vital part of my life. Always eating, family gatherings, evenings in front of the TV, everywhere. LOL But the funny thing is that when your hurting and feeling bad, you start to realize how you got this way in a real sense. I could talk about being fat before the surgery and thought I understood why and how it happened, but when I ccouldn't eat what I wanted to, I realized the real problem and how much food controlled my life. I miss being able to mow down a pizza or whole chicken, but now understand just what it was doing to me. Diabeties, High blood pressure, cholesterol thru the roof. But with the sleeve, it has given me the tool to stop those destructive habits. My Doctor gave me a wonderful little bit of advise. He said, "listen to what your body is telling you" I never had done that before. It works. I eat healthy foods now and the weight is falling off. You will do wonderfully well as you learn thru your journey of weight loss as all of us are also. Enjoy the journey!
