  1. Ok, so I was sleeved 11/14/11. I started this journey a long time ago it seems, but in August I was at my heaviest at 431. By the time I started my pre-op liquid diet of three weeks I was 395 and the day of surgery I was 374. I am at 307 now. I try to do a good job of portioning, but I still make bad decisions on food choices now and again. Chips, candy, ect at times. Obviously I can't eat anywhere near what I used to volume wise and I think that's where my weight problems were. Dr said my weight loss was good. I am still hungry though. About 2-3 hrs after eating I feel hungry. I just try to keep my meals to @ 200 calories or less for the most part. Weekends I fall off the wagon a little, but I'm not trying to make myself crazy. I exercise a couple times a week and started weight training again in a pretty intense manner. That should help. I set a goal for myself to lose 50lbs over the next 3 months. I feel like if I limit my cheating to one day a week and keep up my exercise routine I'll get there. For anyone reading this that's on the fence or nervous about doing the surgery...I say do research on picking a dr and go for it. I read stories of people being tired, sick, dehydrated, not losing weight ect....I have none of these. For a few days after surgery the gas pain was miserable, but I was back to work in a week. Hell, I was cleaning my house on Thurs the week of my Mon surgery because I was bored at home. I'm not saying that's the right thing to do, but I mention that to let you know it wasn't that bad. I feel good and I am healthier because of this decision. I know some people have had problems, and that's always a risk. Just weigh it out and know there are a lot of success stories out there.
  2. It's entirely possible. I don't even feel like I'm doing that well on the weightloss because I can still eat a lot, but I've lost over 50. I've been over 50 since about 6-7 weeks after surgery. I started out at 395 preop on 10-25(and 431 on Sept. 23)...I'm 318 this am.
  3. Ok, let me first say I am no dietician. When I would lose weight before, I had a system by which I would just have a big cheat day on Sundays. I was working out and watching my diet extremely close during the week, and this seemed to keep my sanity. I always had success on diets. Just couldn't keep them up forever. I have lost 100#s several times in my life always to gain it back. I can't eat enough to be on these kinds of diets now. I was sleeved on 11/14/11, and have lost a decent amount of weight. Since surgery, I am down 46lbs, and 67 from the start of the pre-op(103 from highest weight). I don't have the time like I used to to get to the gym, so my workouts haven't been great. I need to change that. All that being said, I feel like I have been losing slow over the last couple weeks. I went ahead and ate bad yesterday. I had small quanities of ice cream, some chips and dip, some high calorie trail mix and a mexican pizza from a particular fast food restraunt. I dropped several pounds over this weekend. This always seemed to work for me to get things moving again. You have to be in control enough to get back on though. I did this as more of an experiment than as a keeping my sanity thing. I really don't view food the same as I used to. I think my caloric intake has been too low and my body was hanging on to everything. We'll see.
  4. I would say you are doing great! I hope I have lost that much by the 2 month mark.
  5. How long should I wait until doing something like raquetball? I feel good and have for 2 weeks, but I am 3 weeks and 1 day out from surgery. Just getting bored with the walking/riding bike.
  6. I was sleeved 11-14...I'm down 33lbs right now, 53 since start of my pre-op diet, and 89 overall. I feel a mild hunger all the time which I suspect is acid. Started working out a week or so ago with racquetball/walking/bike riding/weights. Trying to mix it up. I don't seem to have any problems. I feel like maybe i can eat too much? I can get down 2 eggs pretty easily, drink 2-4 oz at a time with no problem either. I have been supplementing with protein shakes and have been over 90 grams of protein just about every day. No fatigue and my stamina is good, but I have lost a lot of strength. I am looking forward to starting to eat normal food again. I have an appointment tomorrow with the DR, so hopefully I will be moving on from eggs and cottage cheese.lol
  7. I played for an hour. 3 pretty good games. Felt good to do something. Wasn't to fatigued, but I was playing before at over 400lbs. LOL I'm down to 345 now, so I felt like a big cat:)
  8. dmike, I am 4 weeks out and I have the same feeling. You're doing good on weight loss, I wouldn't concern yourself with that right now. Do you feel the feeling even after you eat? Like almost immediately? I do, and I think it is acid. My stomach doesn't rumble, just generally is in almost a hunger pang constantly. I hope this goes away. I do eat every 2 or 3 hours. I drink most of my protein. Premier protein has 30 grams in 11 ounces. It's only 160 calories. I have 2 or 3 a day. I will also eat cottage cheese and eggs. Most days I can do 2 eggs at a time. When I was trying to do cream soups I had a stall for a week. Might have just been the 3 week stall, or it was the carbs from the soups. Either way I tightened back up and now I'm losing again. I started taking a prilosec, but doesn't seem to be helping yet. I have seen some say that it takes a week or so to kick in. We'll see.
  9. I am in my 3 week stall too. I lost @ 25 in 2 weeks and then now just about 1 pound the last week. I was eating carbs in soup, so I went ahead and dropped it back down to 3 protien drinks, some eggs and cottage cheese yesterday. Scale was on the move down again this a.m. I am able to eat more than most i"ve seen on here though. I had 2 eggs last night without any discomfort.
  10. prob 800 - 1000 I need to start tracking it closer. It's killing me not working out or playing raquetball right now. I'm trying not to get get too crazy, just not seeing the scale move this last week is frustrating. I am going to cut out carbs this week and see if I can get it going again. I was eating soups that had some in them.
  11. Man I am going into my 4th week today and I don't have a problem getting anything down. I will drink a protien shake and then I'm starving in 2 hours. I have eaten eggs, cottege cheese, ect....and I get full pretty fast from those, but I'm hungry again in a few hours. Trying to do 5 or 6 servings a day. Think I'm eating too much? I lost about 25 since surgery on the 14th, but nothing in the last week.
  12. I was at the hospital at 3am....5am surgery. I was up first as my surgeon was doing 12 that day. Little cocktail, a few deep breaths and I woke up in my room, not recovery. At least not that I remember. Not much pain, but just uncomfortable. No drinking and a lot of gas pain in my abdomen. They said walking was the best way to get over that so, I was up a few minutes after waking up. I walked the wing several times and then would go back for pain meds/sleep. It just kept putting me out. I hadn't really slept much the night before surgery because I had to be there so early, so I rested most of the day. I was up most of the night because nurses at night don't seem to be much into getting more meds quickly. LOL Mine had to be administered, as I didn't have a button. Barium swallow in the morning to check for leaks, drank some water, then some Crystal Light. Just a few ounces of each, and boy were they hard to get down. I didn't take any pain meds the second day and was released that afternoon. I slept in a recliner for a couple of days due to the staples. I was cleaning my house on Thurs after a Mon surgery. It really wasn't bad. Every day got a little easy to get fluids in and by Thurs all gas discomfort subsided. I was walking a lot though. Back to work on Mon. I had taken one week off. Clear liquids for 1 week, and I'm on the tail end of 2 weeks with cloudy liquids. I can drink pretty well, and I'm anxious to see how eating soft foods goes next week. I'm down @25lbs from surgery weight and down @50lbs from the start of my pre-op liquid diet. Just get your mind right and it's a breeze.
  13. I had surgery 11-14 and was on a 3 week pre-op liquid diet before that. From surgery, I'm down 22...from the start of the pre-op I'm down 49.
  14. I'm 2 weeks out and have stuck to the clear liquids for a week and now on to cloudy liquids. I can eat a bowl of soup in about 30 or 40 min with no discomfort, just slow and easy. I seem to be hungry a couple hours later. I think. Stomach will ache a little like hunger, just still trying to learn my sleeve. I don't have a big desire to get off the path yet, I'm a liitle freaked out about doing anything to my staple line. I can't imagine eating a burger...and that was my deal. LOL

    Dr. David Kim - Tx?

    Dr Kim did my sleeve on the 14th of Nov. So far so good for me. I think that he is pretty conservative as far as pre and post op diets. I'm sure it's a little tougher staying on liquids longer, but in the long run I want this thing to never give me a problem so I'm fine with the sacrifice. Since beginning my pre op diet I have lost about 35lbs(about since 10/31) He has always been straight forward and no nonsense with me, and I appreciate that. Staff has always been pleasant. He's a good surgeon which was first and foremost on my list.
  16. To the best of my knowlege you have to have a BMI over 40 or over 35 w/ obesity related co-morbid condition including.....diabetes, cardio disease, hbp, cardio-pulmonary....must have participated in weight loss attempts appraised by physician.....and possibly a phys evaluation. Here is the kicker for me though, mine won't cover bariatric surgery if coded morbidly obese? If anyone knows, what should it be coded?
