Thought I would lose weight faster- trying to stay positive
Sassygirl06 replied to wannabthin1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just saw this question, and I believe it was for me? I have lost more then 140 pounds. My skin is doing wonderfully. It has never been so soft before. I also had a bad problem with acne all over before losing weight, and that is all cleared up as well. I have a little extra skin on my arms, but not so bad that I cover them, or am embarrassed by it. The skin on my belly is terrible, but that is due to stretch marks and having 3 children....soon to be fixed because I have my tummy tuck scheduled on September 10th! Good luck! -
The only thing with studies that is usually accurate is that they are usually proven wrong with another study...lol What I was getting at is that my decision was based on the fact that I knew I was going to die young if I continued down the path that I was on...I was morbidly obese....morbid. Period. I was living a mediocre life...I wasn't doing the things with my children that I should have been. They were growing up without their mother anyways. I wanted to give myself and my family a chance at a better life. That to me was worth the risk. It paid off for me...and as far as regrets go about this surgery....the only regret I will ever have is not doing it sooner.

It is very easy for this to happen as the hormones that are stored in our fat cells get released into our blood stream as our bodies are processing the fat and breaking it down. You aren't alone! You may need an adjustment of your medications as you lose more weight as well. Good luck!

Full liquids mean just that....if it can go through a colander then it can go in your mouth good luck tomorrow!

LSG results in significant weight loss in the short term. When stratifying outcomes by bougie size, our results suggested that a bougie size of 40F compared with 60F does not result in significantly greater weight loss in the short term. However, longer follow-up of the primary LSG group is required to determine whether a difference becomes evident over time. This was on a web site for a study on boogie size. Hope it makes you feel better!

Has Anyone Managed To Keep Surgery Completely Private?
Sassygirl06 replied to bettyboo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only told my husband and oldest daughter. My mother n law figured it out...but that's because I came over to eat while I was still in recovery, and figuring everything out...and I had to run to the bathroom to throw up. Nobody else knows, still, two years out. Everyone always asks how I lost my weight...which I tell them a low calorie high protein diet...lots of exercise. I was a slower loser, so that helped as well. I think people expect that after someone gets wls that they just instantly lose weight overnight. So when you lose slower they are more apt to believe you did it without any help. Good luck! -
Asmbs.org has a great article on the outcomes and mortality rates, leak rates and complications....it also compares the sleeve to gastric bypass and banding. One study had 16000 patients with a mortality rate of .08% No matter what all studies are going to be off a little due to them having variables. It is very important to find out the success rate of your own doctor, and how many surgerys he or she has preformed. Mine was very forthcoming with how many he had done, as well as his complication rate.

I was going off of what my doc had said, but as far as that number goes....that has to be way to high...or including other wls, not just the sleeve.

Can hiatal hernia prevent me from being sleeved
Sassygirl06 replied to TBodmer71's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Nope...and they can fix it at the same time. Good luck! -
I felt the same way. I have three children. I was worried that something would go wrong and I would leave them without their mother.....but then I had my moment, the thing that changed my mind. I knew I was going to die young. I knew that no matter what I was not going to be around for weddings and grandchildren. I was buying life insurance for when I died so that my children would be taken care of when I died. I realized then that rather then taking this small chance that something would go wrong ( statistics that I had were 1 in 400,000 ) but having the opportunity to be the mom I always wanted to be....or not going through with the surgery and know without a doubt that the quality of my time would be poor with my children and the quantity of my time would be lessened. I realized it was worth the risk to be the mother they deserved, and could be proud of...rather then the mom that stayed on the couch all day tired and sleeping....and basically missing out on their lives anyways. I thank god every day that I had the strength to go through with it! And I know my children are so proud of their mom...and what I can do with them now! good luck with your decision.

This site is great. Lots of people in all different stages of the sleeve, some with really great advise. I was obsessed with anything to do with my journey for the longest time. Good luck on your weight loss.

Curios question........What is your average weight loss each week?
Sassygirl06 replied to Beach Lover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is so funny to me to read stuff like this because it reminds me of where I was two years ago. I was so impatient...and I wanted my weight...that had taken me 18 years to collectively add to my body to fall off over night while I was sleeping...lol It does seem like it takes forever while you are in the process, but then all of a sudden the end sneaks up on you and then you are looking back and can't believe it happened by so fast. Just be patient. It didn't appear over night, it won't go away over night. Keep motivated to exercise...because that helps people lose soooo much faster! Good luck -
Recovery time - question

You need someone to drive you home. I was perfectly able to care for myself as soon as I got home. -
Not Sure if its the right move...
Sassygirl06 replied to JerseyBuckhunter53's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My opinion is...why wait till you are heavier...do it now before you get bigger. If you qualify then you are one of the lucky ones. Also having a lower bmi makes you a great candidate for optimal success. Good luck in your journey! I wish I had started it before I got to where I finally said enough was enough. -
I still have this problem as well. I still find myself going to the plus sized department...when I fold my clothes I find myself putting my jeans in my daughters pile. I see it when I look in the mirror....but in my head I am still a big girl. I think it just takes time. Good luck!

Can someone explain why eating and drinking at the same time is forbidden?
Sassygirl06 replied to jacee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I have lots in my gallery. I have some from the entire start to finish line in there. I don't show my face though...camera shy...lol -
Wow! I am so sorry! I sure hope you get to go home sooner then later. Don't feel selfish about having this surgery...ever! You did this so that you can be the best you, and mom there is! You will be so much healthier, and able to keep up with your child, and play with her. She will forget about while you were away for a while, but she won't forget how much more time she will have with her mom now that you have made this choice to get healthy! As for the meltdown....go ahead and let it out! You will have more to come while healing, and getting used to this new lifestyle. As for having to be in and out of the hospital...I can tell you that since I left the hospital after my surgery, I haven't had to go to the doctors at all relating to anything to do with my sleeve. Good luck to you for a speedy recover. And congratulations on your new sleeve and new way of life!

Visitors in the hospital?
Sassygirl06 replied to Chefrod2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just had my hubby and oldest daughter with me. I know that I loved having them there because they encouraged me to get up and walk laps around the ward. It helped me tremendously because it got rid of the gas quickly, and because I walked so much the doctor said I didn't have to wear those horrible leg compression contraptions. It was also nice to have the company because when I am all doped up on pain killers I turn into a big talker with lots of energy. Weird but true. Lol good luck! -
What's your favorite veggie and how do you prep it?
Sassygirl06 replied to Reigo's topic in Food and Nutrition
I love just plain old broccoli raw, with nothing on it. Boring...but that's the way I love to eat it. -
When do you start counting calories and protein?
Sassygirl06 replied to kjordan83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There really is no way to avoid the stalls. Your body will have to adjust at times. As for getting all of your water in...I had a reusable water bottle, I would take a sharpie and every time I would refill I would make a tally mark on it until I had filled and drank 8 of them. You can take an alcohol wipe and the tally marks come off and you are ready for the next day. As for getting enough protein...it is really hard to get at least 60 grams in one day in the beginning by just eating....so I would buy protein shots at Walmart. They have some that has as many as 28 grams of protein in one shot. Get them really really cold, cause they don't taste the greatest...fruit punch was the least yucky to me. Now for counting calories and carbs and protein.....really the only thing I ever counted was protein. I got a free booklet from Atkins on line that told me the carbs and protein in everything. Once I got to 60 grams of protein for the day I would stop counting anything. I have never worried about how many carbs I ate or how many calories. As long as the scale kept moving down I didn't change anything. It worked for me! good luck to you! -
There is nothing as good as a good.....
Sassygirl06 replied to Cheer Mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggled with this for about two to three months. It seemed like I would never learn. It was so bad that If I were having a meal with my family and I got up to use the restroom I could hear them saying, "oh there goes mom to puke again." I finally had to scold all of them, including my husband for saying it because it didn't matter where we were when they would say it...even at a restaurant! It made me look like I was bulimic! Anyhow, I finally got it down and through my head to slow down when I ate. It takes time to change those old habits. I seriously used to eat like I was in prison and other inmates were going to come a steal my food! Lol finally I savor every bite and enjoy the meal instead of stuffing my face...hehe Good luck to you and your new sleeved tummy! -
Just an observation...not intended to offend anyone
Sassygirl06 replied to Im14fun's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
One unexpected side effect of this surgery for me is that I no longer have a sweet tooth. I can only have a bite or two of something sweet and I am completely done! If I have to much it makes me queazy. Never expected to be nauseated by sweets! Lol -
Can someone explain why eating and drinking at the same time is forbidden?
Sassygirl06 replied to jacee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much. Welcome to the losers bench. When I was in the purée stage I would have a lot of cream Soups. If you are staying in a hotel that has a microwave I would buy some soups like split pea, tomato, broccoli cheddar and such. I didn't have a hard time with milk products like some people do after surgery so I ate a lot of cottage cheese, yogurt, and puddings. When you go out to eat there aren't a whole lot of choices for you other then the soups. It will seem like it takes forever to lose that 100 pounds, but when you get there you will not be able to believe how fast the time went by. I can't believe it's already been almost two years since my surgery. I find now that when I see women that are the size that I used to be now my heart aches for them because I remember that feeling of constantly thinking about my weight. There wasn't a minute that would go by that I didn't have my weight on my mind. I just saw a woman tonight that is about my height and she is about the same size I was and the same build...like her weight was carried just the way I did. I felt so strongly that I wanted to go up to her and tell her about the surgery, but then I know how I would have felt if someone would have done that to me, so I never do. I wish you luck on your journey...and try to remember that you will hit stalls, it is completely normal, and even if you lose slowly...it is actually better for your health, as well as your skin. I lost pretty slowly and I don't have any issues with skin other then a little wobbly around the arms, and of course the girls and tummy...but that's more from having kids then from my weight loss. I am getting plastics in the fall and I can't wait to post after pictures, so look for those in October! have a great time on vacation! -
Just keep working. Maybe you are lucky and have good butt muscles...lol if you're working out already then you are ahead of the game!

I have a question!
Sassygirl06 replied to charles Lawson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stop worrying...just follow your diet and you will be fine. Stress causes you to release hormones that cause you to gain. If you follow your diet you will lose. Good luck to you!
