    I Have A Date--And It's Next Week!

Thanks alexandra--be sure to keep checking in! In terms of my pre-op diet, I've done really well--no cheats--but I'm sure that's largely because I can eat protein bars, lean meat, salad/vegetables, eggs, cheese, and nuts if I get hungry beyond protein shakes. This weekend was harder than I expected, what with my in-laws being in town, eating out, a chocolate cake, and cooking/baking for 5 people. I actually got a little weepy for a minute yesterday--which felt really weird (like, why am I crying, and dang, I really do have a relationship with food!) and I wasn't even hungry! It was just that I couldn't have what I wanted and everyone else was partying it up...oh well, I made it through and I feel good about that. On Wednesday, it's all clear liquids, though. I'm sure that one will be a challenge! Looking forward to being around lots of food and not wanting most of it!

I Did What To My Hair?

good for you,Lyra, and funny you should ask! I had dreadlocks for 6 years, and decided to take them out (you don't necessarily have to cut all your hair off) a couple of weeks ago. my head feels so light now! I think it was all a part of that upcoming major transition...when is/was your surgery?

    I Have A Date--And It's Next Week!

Thanks, y'all! Had a dream last night that I was at this big delicious buffett and there was nothing that I was allowed to eat! It's funny cuz I felt pretty good last night after my first day of pre-op dieting--and my diet is a little more lenient than some I've seen. Guess my mind is trying to adjust already...
  11. Yay, Darla! Will be sending good-surgery vibes to you tomorrow!
  12. was so worried about telling my parents, and they were super cool about it! dang, now i feel bad for thinking maybe they wouldn't be...

    I Have A Date--And It's Next Week!

I love how supportive everyone is here...and the quick replies I'd spend so much time worrying about how my parents would react when I told them--even had a dream about it--and they were super cool! All kinds of do what makes you happy, life's too short type stuff! YAY!

    I Have A Date--And It's Next Week!

Thanks guys! I guess this will be sort of a rebirth-day for me to share with you: Lilee and your son: Vance my actual b-day is 2/14, and I think this is a pretty cool gift to myself! I'll be sure to check in afterwards...
  15. is 6,000 sleeves in 9 years a "good" number?

  16. is 6,000 sleeves in 9 years a "good" number?

  17. Oh, sorry--I thought you were at the end of the process--in that case, they'll probably provide a bunch of info up front, but it never hurs to have your own questions ready...good luck anyway!
  18. Hey there--my consult is tomorrow too! I think people on this site do an excellent job of answering questions, but you may want to ask a few that are specific to your surgeon if you don't already know. Some stuff seems to vary depending on the doctor. Here are a couple of things: --expected time in hospital --anticipated length of surgery --timeline for introducing different foods --rules about medications/vitamins (size, which are ok, etc) --post op testing for leaks (some docs do this, some don't) --what to expect the day you arrive at the hospital (might help soothe some anxiety) --visitation rules (if there is someone who would like to spend the night in your room--is that allowed?) --will you be given an on-q pump or drain that you have to remove yourself? (eww!) I can't think of anything else right now, but I'm sure my mind will be racing tonight! Good luck, and congratulations on making it this far! Do tell us when your date is--we might end up being sleeve twins!
  19. surgeon's consult is tomorrow--should walk out with a date! woo-hoo! then i have to tell my parents--booo!

    Alcohol After 6 Weeks Out?

I've not had surgery yet, but my surgeon's instructions say to wait 6 months...that being said, different surgeons seem to have different rules, so when in doubt, I'd call the surgeon's office...

    Delayed Again (abnormal Ekg) :`(

    Thanks Vance!
  23. Ok, I just found out that my EKG, of all things, is abnormal The person I talked to said that there may or may not actually be a problem, but I have to have a cardiology consult to be cleared for surgery. So that appointment is on 1/20. At least it's only a couple of weeks away...still waiting to find out if I can do something other than an EGD . I'm self pay and insurance won't cover it EGD since "pre-op is not a diagnosis." Self pay it would cost me over $700 (WITH a 50% discount!). That lady really scared me with the EKG stuff--had to call my husband and cry about it a bit...I've never had a heart problem before, and I had a myomectomy last year with zero problems, even got to go home a day early because I was doing so well...just needed to vent, but I pray that this works out. My birthday is 2/14 and a sleeve would be the ultimate gift!

    Delayed Again (abnormal Ekg) :`(

Ok, so the cardiologist and physician's assisstant said the EKG doesn't look worrisome, but since I'm planning on having surgery, they want to do an echo and stress test just to be sure. That's scheduled for this Wednesday, so hopefully that will be the last thing I have to do before being scheduled for surgery. In other news, when I told the cardiologist I was getting the gastric sleeve, he said, "why?" I said, "It's weight loss surgery," he said, "yeah, but why? you look fine!" and made this face like I was crazy. I said, "um, not really," and he sorta laughed. I did the polite chuckle thing, but uh, was that supposed to be a compliment, was he just trying to be funny, or what?
  25. upper GI came back all good! (yay!)...cardiologist wants to do a stress test (boo!)
