  1. Hello everyone!! I've been on the forum daily and have learned so much, like what sliming is and what restriction means. I go to the seminar on the 21st and I would like to have a list of questions to ask, but there is so many things I don't know to ask. There is so much information on this site, but it is a little overwhelming.

Please send me some of the questions you asked or things you wish you would have asked. I want to be an informed patient and be able to go to my PCP fully informed.

    Thank you!!

  2. I don't know how to talk to my doctor about needing the lap band. When I initially started to think about doing the lap band in October 2011, I let my doctor know but she was kind of dismissive because she didn't really know the process and at that time I wasn't ready either. Now I am, and it is something I really need to get done. Yes I want to lose weight to look better, but I want to feel better mostly. I want to sleep better, breathe easier, and not be in pain all the time. I go to the seminar on the 21st but I'm not sure if I need to make an appointment with my doctor first and then go to the seminar or go to the seminar and then make an appointment with my doctor. My husband is Active Duty Army, and I have Tricare Prime (remote) since we are not close to a post. Fort Benning is the closest and it is an hour and a half away. I have already been diagnosed with sleep apnea and try to use a CPAP, I have asthma that isn't managed well with medication, and severe joint pain. My BMI is 41.1. Any advice would be helpful to talk to my doctor and help her understand the process.

    Thanks

  3. I am in Peachtree City, GA just south of Atlanta. I am just starting my journey and go to the seminar on the 21st. I talked to my PCP a couple years about the lap band but she wasn't very receptive so I am nervous about bringing it up again but I really need help because I have tried just about everything and nothing seems to work. Good luck to everyone and I hope I will be going through the banding process sooner than later.

  4. I have 9 tattoos. I got my first when I was 27 and I am now 39. I wanted one ever since I was in basic training for the army but decided I would wait to make sure I still wanted one. After 10 years, I still wanted one and my first was a butterfly on my calf. I also have a butterfly on my foot, on my ankle, lower back, wrist and back of my neck. I love butterflys. They symbolize change and beauty to me. I also have scooby doo on my right sholder. Scooby doo was one of the first cartoons I watched when I came to the United States from Honduras. I also have an armband of Mayan hierglyphs to signify my heritage and my kids names as a Bracelet on my wrist. I want to get my dog's paw print on the inside of my forearm next and butterflies fluttering on my side once I reach my goal weight.

  5. Hello everyone. I actually joined in October 2011 because I was considering the lap band then, but I didn't feel ready to take that first step then and wanted to try to lose the weight any other way than surgery. Well, nearly two years later, and I am back because I have come to the realization that I need some help. Here is a little information about me. I am 39 years old and am 5' 2" and currently weigh 225 pounds. My BMI is 41.5. I'm scheduled to go to the seminar on the 21st of September in Fayetteville, GA. I have Tricare Prime and I am hoping I can get banded by the end of the year. I have already been diagnosed with Obstructive sleep Apnea, and use the CPAP (not successfully either), I have Asthma and medication has not be effective in controlling it. I also have severe joint pain. This year alone, I've tried weight watchers (only lost about 10 pounds in 8 months), I go to Zumba, I walk, I stopped drinking soda for a long period of time, and none of it really worked. I am ready now because I need the help because nothing else is working for me. I am fotunate because my husband is very supportive and so are my kids. I'm nervous and excited all at the same time. I hope my insurance will approve it and I can start my journey soon.

I would love to meet new friends on this journey and hear from anyone that can give me advice, support, and just a shoulder to lean on when I need it. If anyone is in the Peachtree City/Newnan/Fayettevill Georgia area, let me know.

    Thanks
