  1. My surgery is March 20, I am new here and looking for people to chat with and talk about what going on during this part of the journey, to laugh withand cry with and to listen to . my mom had this surgery a long time ago in it new stages and she has friends all over the country and they go on a mini vacation every two years together

Hi Armywife!! I am having my surgery on March 5th. I am so excited, nervous, and just ready to begin a new healthier life. I am also an army wife. I am going through Tricare Prime and it has been a pretty smooth process. I started in September 2013, so 6 months from start to surgery date. Not too bad. Some folks on here have been going through the process for over a year. Where are you located? I am in Georgia, just south of Atlanta. I am 39 (40 in April) and I am 5'2 1/2" tall and weighed 234 at my last appointment at the end of January.

    Good luck!!!!!

  2. Hello Everyone, I am new to this site and new to the idea of getting gastric bypass surgery. I am currently 240lbs with a BMI of 41and I have T2D as well as thyroid issues. I am 37 years old and female. A friend of mine recently had Gastric Bypass several days ago and is doing good so far. She had her surgery at MUSC in Charleston, SC where I would like to have mine. I have BCBS insurance and I have already started my process to see if I am a candidate for this surgery. I have my psychological testing in March along with my nutritional classes. One of my questions is in reference to BCBS. Wondering if anyone else has this insurance and what the company requires to be approved for the surgary. Also, what type of complications if any, were related to the surgery? My partner had the surgery 8 years ago and lost about 200lbs. However, she still has complications from the surgery such as anemia, Constipation, stomach cramps, etc. I am trying to decide if this surgery is what I want. I have tried all my life to lose weight ever since I hit puberty. I have tried all the fad diets, exercise programs, etc and I just want to feel better and hopefully not have to deal with issues that I am sure will be arising soon due to my weight. Both of my parents are obese and neither one qualified for the surgery due to other health related issues that they have. I am excited with the prospect of getting this surgery soon, but also afraid of the long term effects that I have had heard people deal with years down the road from the surgery. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome! You will find so much good information and really wonderful people. I am 39, 5'2" and weigh 234, so our stats are similar. I started the process in September 2013 and will be having surgery on the 5th. I documented all the things I did to lose weight and all my medical issues, went to a seminar then went and talked to my doctor. She was super supportive. Support is so important and a surgeon you feel comfortable with.

    Good luck!!

  3. I got the call on valentines day for my surgery. I will be having the surgery on March 5th at 8:30 am. I have to go on the 3rd at 11:00 for my Pre-op appointment with my surgeon and then on the 4th I have to go at 3:00 to get a PICC line. Did anyone else have to get one before your surgery? Can you explain why it is needed?

I am so excited and ready but the nerves are starting to kick in now that I have a date!

  4. Good Luck on your journey. I have Tricare (Military dependent) and had to show 3 months of MD documented wieght management, which my surgeon told me about in December, even after I called the insurance and they said it was not required. Fortunately my doc is super supportive and used my October, November and December visits to document. I LOVE HER!! All I have left is my GI appointment on Monday, my last weigh in on Wednesday and my Phych appointment on Thursday and a support group meeting on Saturday. Then I play the waiting game for the surgeons office to ensure I have all my clearances and to submit to the insurance company. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can have surgery in January or early February. I am sooooo ready!!

I started the process in September, but the last 4 months have really gone by quickly, even though when I started it seemed like it would take forever!! The 6 months will go by quicker that you expect.

  5. Yesterday I had to go buy pants because everything I have is falling off of me. My previous size was 18W and I bought 12's!! I almost cried! My surgery date was October 2 and HW was 230. I weighed 166 this morning. Only 15 lbs from my surgeons goal weight for me. That's a lot of change in a little less than 3 months. Happy doesn't begin to describe it! I am so thankful for this surgery and wouldn't go back for anything.

Now maybe a cute pair of boots

I am the same weight and size clothing as you were before your surgery. I am hoping to get a surgery date in late january or early february. This makes me even more excited to get my surgery! Congrats on your success.

  6. I love your story...and look forward to reading your journey. You and your wife sound alot like me and my hubby. We enjoy each other and love to laugh. My hubby always makes the best of any situation and always supports me.

Good luck on your surgery and wishing you a quick recovery and many pounds lost. Merry Christmas.
