To Tell Or Not To Tell About Lap Band ???
Amanda61082 replied to Amanda61082's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually ended up telling my sister in-law about a week ago. She was curious why I had a sleep study done, and I just came out and said it. She said she was so jealous but happy for me at the same time. She is still planning on having more children, so when she is done, she said she may do it too. Was a lot easier than orginally planned. Since I started this post, I have told a few more people. I told another co-worker that works in the next classroom, and my cousin. They were both so excited and supportive. Makes this journey so much more exciting when people around you are on board and supportive with you! -
December 27 Lap Band Surgery Date
Amanda61082 replied to latinamom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me not to loose weight either. He said the weight I loose for the 2 week pre-op liquid diet would be enough. -
My surgeon was awesome! He was so upbeat and positive! He asked why I needed to wait until February for the surgery, and I told him that is when I have time off (school vacation week). He said there is nothing stopping me now, so he is having scheduling call me tomorrow to book my surgery at the end of December!!! OMG I can't believe it! I started crying! He just laughed, patted me on the shoulder and told me he loved his job! YAY!

So I haven't been on here for awhile. I have been trying to focus on trying to change my life now so I will be ready in February for the surgery. I told myself I would be back on after I see the surgeon on Thursday, but here I am. I only had to do pre-op tests. A swallow study and a sleep study. I got the swallow study done the week of my consult but just had my sleep study last night. I actually just went away for the weekend with my mother and sister, and they were saying that I don't snore at all and was curious why I was even having one done. They even joked and said that I can use the study as a night away from my kids. So I arrived at the hospital last night, and the technician was looking over my records and paperwork, and said the same thing as my mother and sister. That everything seems to be pointing towards normal sleep. She told me she would see me in the morning. Well, at 2 a.m. she came in, and told me she has to put the mask on me. She said I was experiencing breathing problems and my O2 levels dropped. I was kinda bummed. No I was devasted. She said even mild apeana requires them to put the mask on for the 2nd half of the study, so I don't have to come in and do it again. I am hoping that it is just mild, and that weight loss will allevate the problem. I defintelky dont want to wear the mask everynight. My children will be terrified. When I was leaving she said she is going to red flag my test to be read today, so the surgeon can have the results on Thursday. I already have an appointment with the Pulmonolgist at the end of December. If I need the machine I have to be on it for a month before I can have surgery. Hopefully I can still get a tentative date, and have eveerything sent to my insurance company for approval. Sorry to rant...but i just need to get out my sadness. It doesnt help that I am at work right now, and a student of mine died over the weekend. Just not a good day. Plus....all I can smell in the plastic from the O2.

Well I know why it is done, and the purpose, I am just upset that I have it.

How long after the surgery could you return to work? People I know that had gall bladder surgery were back in 2 days. I am a teacher, and was curious if I could just use a long weekend and a few sick days. So how long were you out before you could return to work?

I joined this group a month ago right before my consulktation. I have to say that the posts have made me nervous about my surgery in February. Your post is the post I have been looking for! Thank you for sharing your emotions and experiences!! Thank you B-52!

I haven't had my surgery yet, but I use those DVD's. They are a great work out. I am up to the 4 mile workout. It definitely get your heart pumping and you break a sweat. But you do it on your own time in your home which is even better!

How long before you could work?

Perfection! That is what I like to hear!!! -
I am not having surgery until February, but my nutrionist wanted me to start eating like I would if I had the band. So...I have been eating a Chobani with Kashi Cereal and an apple for Breakfast, and the small portion lunch and dinner. If I am doing it now, then how does it differ when the band is in there? This may be a really stupid question, but I just don't understand I guess. Do you really not have enough room for a full Chobani and an apple after surgery? Just thought I would throw my question out there, and see if any post-op bandsters can help me out! Thanks!

Love it! -
It has only been 5 days and waiting for my surgery is killing me! I just wish I could have the surgery this month or next! Waiting to February is going to suck. I was okay with waiting when I wasn't sure if I could even have the surgery, but insurance is a go, my health is a go....WHY WAIT!!! I kinda want to call and see if it can be done sooner! What are all of you doing to make the waiting bearable?

Waiting is the worst...
Amanda61082 replied to Amanda61082's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I am not delusional. I understand that there is a process meant to prepare me and it is a lifelong commitment. I don't have insurance guidelines to follow, and I could have it in December I just choose to wait for a longer vacation in February. My waiting impatience is more of excitement of the future. -

To Tell Or Not To Tell About Lap Band ???
Amanda61082 replied to Amanda61082's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well if she was getting the lapband to be healthy, I would 100% be supportive. However, she doesn't see the need to eat healthy or exercise, so if she automatically said she was going to do it too, it would be more or a competitive thing instead of a doing it for health thing. Hard to explain I guess... -

I have BCBS. Mine hasn't offically been approved. BCBS gave me a pre-approval. They just need the form from the surgeon who I don't see until the 12/1. I would be on cloud 9 if he could do it after xmas! However, I am taking this time to get myself ready to eating and exercising how I need to after surgery. I am changing a meal a week. I did awesome with Breakfast last week. Now I am going to move onto lunch, so hopefully when surgery comes, I am already used to the food changes. -
Suggestions for Protein-rich breakfast
Amanda61082 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I met with the dietician last week, and she wanted me to start eating like I would after the surgery. I started today. She wanted to me to try Greek yogurt with some granola for breakfast, and some fruit. I HATE yogurt. She recommended the Greek yogurt and granola to give it more texture. I took about three bites until I started gagging. I am having a hard time thinking of something else I can eat for breakfast. I know eggs are a good one, but I have an extremely hectic morning, so I need something fast. Any suggestions??? -
My consult was 11/3, and I will be having surgery in February. I could have it sooner but I want to have it when I am on school vacation (being a teacher you have to schedule things when they give you time off). I have my first appointment with the surgeon is on 12/1, at that time I will have the surgery scheduled.

Suggestions for Protein-rich breakfast
Amanda61082 replied to Amanda61082's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never thought of adding Protein powder to so many things. Where do you get this powder? What brands are best? My dietician mentioned she would rather me eat solid foods so they remain longer, so that is why I strayed from shakes, but if I pair it with fruit I should be good. Thank you to everyone for these suggestions! I would be completely lost without all this support! -

Same with me. The only options I had was the Band or Gastric bypass. I am going with the band in February. I am so excited! -
