Veteran forum, for vets a year out?

Folks....I don't think we need a sticky because very soon there will be software controls limiting member's posting ability in the vets forum. Only those who meet the criteria will be able to post, the site will block all others from posting. They will be able to read only. The criteria will be 1 year post op and 200 previous posts.

wheat, carbs my dr said NO, NO!

Clearly there is a miscommunication here. I was only saying I was puzzled because we all got fat from eating more calories than our body could process. To me that is the definition of over eating. The amount you ate may be different than the amount I ate, but it was still too many calories. Clearly you may define over eating differently than I do. You may not have been a huge eater in terms of volume of food. But with the crappy high calorie fast foods and processed foods available today (like hot wings) it's easy to get fat without being a big eater. We can still take in way too many calories and get fat.

I think you may be being overly sensitive. I wasn't tearing anyone down. But what you said seemed a little counter intuitive. If you didn't become overweight by over eating, how did it happen? And why have a surgery that makes over eating difficult if over eating was not the problem? I'm not being non supportive I'm simply puzzled and asking a question.

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

I thought they were all for time but I could be wrong. Reason being the program is based on being at a certain heart rate for a certain amount of time to produce measurable and predictable aerobic increases in fitness without overdoing it.

    December Fitness Challenge

LOL....I think thats a fine goal. Also....there's a C25K thread. If you can read it from start to finish before the end of January you get a free santa running beard.....almost new. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/239489-started-couch-to-5k-today-anyone-keen/

    December Fitness Challenge

Absolutely. Check out the first post in this thread. It seems to have mostly worked. Do you wanna start this next one? Just a brief explanation of how it works and we'll start a new year off right. Feel free to vary it up if you think of something that might help some new folks.

And not that I'm some great runner....but I completed C25K a long time ago and I still can't do it. I think my best time was 31:30 on a track. I'm to the point now that I'd rather run slow, enjoy the scenery and the miles and not get hurt so I can run again another day.

Wait. What? I hope this was a typo.

    December Fitness Challenge

10 mile trail run today pushed me to 105.7 miles running....and tomorrow I anticipate going over 10,000 meters swimming for the month. This was a tough month for the fitness challenge. Hopefully next month we'll see some renewed commitment thanks to the new year. Does anyone new want to start the January challenge? If not I'll do it. But if any new blood wants to I'm happy for it.

I know people who can run marathons who can barely run a 5k in 30 minutes. Honestly that is an unreasonable expectation in the C25K plan. The beauty is it doesn't matter how fast or slow we run....just that we run.

New Goals for the New Year?! :) Before and after pics.

I need to get back to logging my food. It really helps me.
  12. There's not enough historical data to do such studies yet, I would think. But this is one of those things I really don't need a study to prove. I'm going to find a little faith for a change.

Wanna Rant About Spouses & How Clueless They Can be sometimes?

Sorry y'all. I got a Charlie Brown tree ornament. I'm thinking regift.

the earth is 6k years old!

LOL. I've spent the whole weekend suffocating under some serious southern baptists. Ugh. Funny story....completely related to my weight loss. While W Bush was president my preacher FIL mentioned in every sermon that being a good Christian meant being a good patriot and supporting your president. EVERY. SINGLE. SERMON. After Obama got elected, he never mentioned it again. Nice how the requirements change.

    Funny Joke: Praise the lord!

Nice one. I just shared that with the FIL and he loved it.
  16. Yes yes yes.....for the love of god yes! Thank you and goodnight.
  17. As a fellow meanie, I want to add that it's not about dashing peoples hopes or raining on their parades....it's about reality. The reality is 90% of the folks on this forum are either pre-op or still in the honeymoon stage. It's startling how things change once that honeymoon phase is over. No words can prepare you. One day it's so easy and the next day it's like you were never sleeved almost. And at that point it all falls on you. And you realize that the real tool is not the sleeve, it's the new behaviors you learned during the early months. The new lifestyle. The new healthy approach to life. If you don't embrace those things, it's gonna get tough down the line for you.

What is 5:2? I've heard it mentioned before but don't really know what it is. Here's a good place to start reading. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/291240-52-links-and-info/

    January-February 2014 pullup challenge

Lactic acid build up that you flushed away with use? Not sure but I have experienced similar. Usually a sore muscle feels better more quickly after some use rather than rest. I wasn't expecting my core to be used quite so much on the pullups. Just goes to show I need to give my core more attention.

    food and celebrations

Thanks so much. We are definitely planning a couple of trail runs. And I'm organizing a touch football game for Saturday night. Trying to get some activity into the weekend. Mostly I'll just spend my time trying not to let my FIL offend me.

    January-February 2014 pullup challenge

After doing day 1 my abs are killing me. They are so sore. I haven't done any direct an work since recovering from my TT. I'm feeling it today. I'm surprised at the areas a that are sore. Even my pecs are sore.
  22. Nah....not aggressive. Passive/aggressive big difference.

    WTF?

Yes I gained 15 pounds in the hospital. They pump you so full of liquids.

    food and celebrations

I agree. I hate how food centered all the family gatherings are. And I never noticed it till I got sleeved. Now it sickens me. Tomorrow I leave for the inlaws annual Xmas extravaganza and food orgy. It will last the whole weekend. People sit around eating till they can't breath. Then unbutton their pants and wait till there's enough room to breath and eat again. As soon as the clean up is done from one meal, it's time to start cooking the next. My wife and I made our own traditions this year. We went for a trail run before even opening presents on Xmas day.
