    Worried

If you download the iPhone app, you can use the camera to scan the barcode on any food package so you don't have to enter the info.
  2. I created my ticker by going to my profile, clicking tickers and then clicking create new ticker. But now how do I update my weight?

    Feeling No Support

I'll tell anyone and I really don't care if they don't like it or agree with my decision. I cant live a lie or keep secrets, and why should I? I'm saving my own life, it's as simple as that. I've certainly tried to loose the weight without the surgery but I haven't been able to keep it off. Plus, I've thought about having WLS many times but never really believed I could or would. And then one day a coworker told me he had bypass years ago, out of the blue. He was very matter of fact about the whole thing. I respected his openness. It inspired me to believe I could do it as well. I hope someday I might inspire someone the same way.

    Body Massages

Glad to see another LMT on here. I've been licensed for 6 years here in Texas, but I just do it part time as I have another full time job. If massage really did help people loose weight I could quit my other job for sure.

How Soon Did You Return To Work?

It's gonna be the full 6 weeks for me. But I work in a chemical plant and my job requires I be able to lift 50 pounds before I come back to work. I had a hernia repaired during my surgery so the doc says no lifting for me till then. But frankly, other than that one limitation, I feel good enough to go back to work now.

I also was done by Dr. Alanis. Can't say enough good things about him.

    Back Pain

Back pain can be caused by so many things, from a herniated disc to muscle imbalance brought on by poor flexibility, bad posture, a bad mattress... the list goes on and on. If the underlying cause isn't resolved the pain will continue. Also, back pain is very often referred pain, meaning the spot where you feel the pain is not always the exact origin of the pain. For example tight glutes usually refer pain to the lower back along the belt line. If you have a trigger point therapist in your area, go see him. They are experts in resolving referred pain. In any case, I don't mean to try to diagnose or second guess your doctor, only to give you options. I hope whatever it is, you are able to get it resolved soon.

    Back Pain

Couldn't it also just be lower back pain unrelated to the surgery? You can easily cause yourself lower back pain without doing anything strenuous.
  11. Hello all. I'm 2-1/2 weeks post op and I'm real strict about not drinking any Water for 30 minutes after I eat, but should I be following that rule if my meal was just a Protein shake? I like to have my shake first thing in the morning and then work out. But I need to hydrate before and during my workout. Do I need to wait 30 minutes? BTW...I only drink about 8 oz of shake at a time. It's about 1/3 of a full shake. About 80 calories.

I Feel Like An Aspercreme Factory!

+1 on the Biofreeze. That stuff is awesome. But it's really meant to be put on before you workout, not after. After workouts you should use ice. Utilize the R.I.C.E. method. Also, what kind of cardio are you doing besides the recumbent bike? I design and build bikes as a hobby and I see alot of folks who set their seat too low, or in the case of a recumbent, too close to the pedals. This will absolutely kill your knees. You should just barely be able to lock your knee with the end of your HEEL on the pedal. Then pedal with the balls of your feet and not your toes or arches. This is the general rule of thumb but not absolute law, but it works for most. But you do get an A+ for motivation. I wish I had your energy.

    How Successful Was Your Surgery?

Massindex and Rootman....you guys are my heroes. I hope to be right there with you a year from now.
  14. That's pretty much what I was thinking but I didn't want to sabotage myself by drinking too soon.
  15. Years ago my mom thought she had kidney stones. They had her drinking that nasty medicine and peeing through a screen for 2 weeks trying to pass it. She was in alot of pain. Finally they told her they were going to have to cut her open and remove it, so she went for a second opinion. The second doc told her she had pulled a muscle in her lower back and should go get a deep tissue massage. She did and the pain went away and never came back. Needless to say she was very happy. A few years later I went to back school and got my massage therapy license, but I have yet to help a client pass a kidney stone.
  16. I love love love skim milk but for some reason two swallows makes me feel like I just ate a big meal. But I've been using that to my advantage. When I think I'm hungry but it's not time to eat I just take a big swig of milk and I'm instantly full.

    Not Losing Weight?

I was sleeved on the same day as you. And i will second what the others here have already told you. Quit using the scale and star using the tape measure. Also, start exercising. Even if you are only walking. Do something to get your heart rate up.

    How Fast Is Too Fast?

I am like you. I seemingly can drink all the water I want, but a couple big gulps of milk and I definitely felt the restriction.
  20. Grits. I love grits. Started adding flavorless protein powder to them and you can barely tell.

    Louisiana Sleevers?

Holy cow. My aunt and uncle live in Fort Necessity. Their church is in Winnsboro and my little nephew goes to school in winnsboro. When i was a kid my cousins took me cruising up and down the main drag there. Everybody hung out at the Sonic on Saturday night. Ah the good old days.

Sleeved 5-21 And No Problems ?

Sounds like you are doing great. I had some mildly annoying gas pains the first 2 or 3 days, but after that everything has been easy. I couldn't feel any evidence of the surgery either until the first time I swallowed 3 big mouthfuls of cold milk. Felt waterlogged immediately. Once you start eating food you will definitely feel the restriction. I ate 4 ounces of egg salad this afternoon and I was stuffed. 6 weeks ago I could eat a footlong from subway, plus the chips, large coke and 3 Cookies with no problem. Follow the plan and everything will continue to go great for you.
