    Canadian Gym Bans Skinny People

The article is right, that is reverse discrimination. What's worse is, they are striving to become that which they discriminate against....ironic.
  2. If you already have a protein powder you like, get a shaker bottle with a mixing ball in it. It's like a little wisk. Works great.

    Hungry All Day?

Yeah definitely a little something before you workout, even walking. A few carbs before and protein after is what I do.

    Hungry All Day?

Hi...I'm 6 weeks post op as well....5/10 surgery date. What's your carb intake? If you suddenly started working out and weren't used to it, your body may be screaming for some carbs. Look for some low GI fruits and veggies to eat before you workout to help you.

    Sigh..need Some Reassurance.

That statistic is just an average, not a limitation. You can shoot for below average or above average. My surgeon told me anyone can lose 100% of their excess weight if they try, barring unforeseen unresolved issues like eating disorders.
  6. Just wondering how much of that information is true. I'm enough of a skeptic to believe all the parts in the movie that talked about all the researchers and politicians who had ulterior motives. But something in me tells me the maker of the movie also had an ulterior motive....but that's because I'm such a skeptic. I've also done just enough research in my life to know that for every "fact" you can find on the Internet, you find someone else who contradicts that "fact" with their own counter "facts". So does anyone here know the "facts"?

    6 Months Post-Op!

I'm sorry to hear all that. I hope the MRI discovers the problem and it's an easy fix. May I ask, what were your symptoms of your gall bladder failing?
  9. I'm only 5 weeks post op and not yet a former fatty. Somebody remind me this time next year and I'll get some for sure, if no one beats me to it.

Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?

To answer your question, there are some studies that have shown RNY patients have lost slightly more weight than sleeve patients. This could be because its a bit more effective, or because there are more case studies of the RNY and the sleeve is much newer, or it could be because RNY patients in general may have more weight to loose. I'm not sure if statistics would proof that last point correct or not, but from what I've seen it seems to be true. But just like Mememee said above, my surgeon told me that regardless of past success rates, there is absolutely no reason why I or anyone else can't lose 100% of our excess weight with the sleeve. Yes it may take 18 months instead of 12, but I think the sleeve patient will have better overall health...and that is the most important thing in the end, IMO.

Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?

I must have missed something here because I didnt see any rude rampages, only a healthy debate, and a lot of good information. Considering this is going to be a pro-sleeve crowd, I'm not surprised most here favor getting the sleeve over RNY....as do I.

    Post Op Liquid Torture

I licked the seasoning off of some sun dried tomato flavored wheat thins my first week. About 4 or 5 a day...it was like heaven in my mouth. Then I gave the freshly licked crackers to my dog, and she was happy to get them. It's like we both got a treat.

    Water Intake

As Calikat said, if you can't get more than that you need to call your Drs office ASAP. Otherwise you're headed for a serious problem. You might try sucking on ice if that's easier. Also, I like to add propel to my Water.

    Numb Feet! And Eliptical...

I don't know what gym you ladies work out at, but the 24 hour fitness gyms in my area have nothing but the Precor machines, and they have never given me this numbness. Lifefitness and other brands always do this to me. It may just be the design of certain machines.

    Numb Feet! And Eliptical...

Any kind of firm rubber you can find, maybe cut up some old doormat and sandwich 2 or 3 pieces together with glue. Cut them out roughly the shape of the front half of your shoe only wider. If you can cut them to fit into the foot platforms on the elliptical you use, even better. it's gonna take a little trial and error. Also, a quick google search yielded 1 possible cause (too tight shoes)and 2 other solutions (roll your feet from heel to toe as you would while walking or running, and stop and pedal backwards once in a while). Its been a while since I had this problem but I remember trying many different shoes. Pedaling backwards made my feet feel better, until the minute I started going forward again. Rolling the foot may help cause for me tring to take the weight off my toes and put it on my heels gave me temporary relief, but it didn't solve the big problem which was that the angle of the foot platform put too much weight on my toes. Maybe I was leaning too far forward but I had to reach the hand levers. From what I've read this is very common with elliptical machines.

    Numb Feet! And Eliptical...

Yes, I've tried several ellipticals that do this to my feet. The Precor is the first one I've owned that doesn't make my feet go numb. It's gotta be the angle of the feet somehow, cause I tried leaning back, leaning forward, different shoes, everything, could never make it stop till I bought a Precor. One thing my PT brother in law suggested was putting some kind of firm foam or something under the front half of your foot, to raise up your toes and get your foot more horizontal....but by the time he told me about that it was too late. Anything that raises up the balls of your feet an inch, but don't go any more than that...maybe go a little less to see how it feels. Otherwise you could injure your Achilles tendon.

Anyone Use A Hydration Pack Or Camelbak Post Op?

    That's awesome.

Anyone Use A Hydration Pack Or Camelbak Post Op?

The inside of the Water bladder is difficult to get completely dry. If moisture stays in there between uses it will grow stuff you don't want to drink. Imagine drying out the inside of a balloon. That's what the bladder is like only bigger. Needs to be washed out well regularly. I've stuck a hair dryer on cool in mine before to dry it.

What I Won't Miss About Being Fat...

I've had more than one "shallow Hal" moment with cheap lawn furniture, sometimes not so cheap furniture....I won't miss that. I've already noticed the "going to the bathroom" part is easier after losing 50 pounds. Not so much the going, but the .....uh....cleaning afterward.

7 Weeks Away From My Life Changing.

30 day liquid pre op diet!!! Wow, that is the longest I ever heard of. But you can certainly do it. My advice would be, be planful. Always know where your next meal is coming from. Don't let yourself get hungry and then wonder what your gonna have to eat. I never leave the house now without a shaker bottle and serving of my Protein powder. If I get hungry I can just pull over and buy a bottle of Water and mix me up a shake. The shaker bottles with the little wisk balls in them are the best. Just as good as a blender. And think of your pre op diet like boot camp because it may be the hardest part. But you'll know that if you make it through that, the rest will be easy.
