Things To Eat Through The Day

Egg beaters and chilli (not together of course) both are dense in protein and were on my approved soft food list. Also, you can still drink some protein shakes to offset your mushies, they will give you protein but not push your restriction as much as food will. I was also eating alot of egg salad at that stage (with mustard, no mayo).

    What Would You Do?

My doc told me under no circumstances was I to use neosporin or anything like it on my incisions. Just wash the area with anti-bacterial soap. I was glued shut, no stitches. Did your doctor tell you to use neosporin?

I Want To See Before & After Pics!

On my phone, hit "reply". Then hit "advanced" in the upper right corner. Then "attach from photos". Select the photo you want from your phone. then hit "done loading". Then "insert inline". From a laptop, I don't know.

    5% of 1%?

This is exactly what bothers me about religion. But I don't blame it on God, but rather on man. Religion is just another tool for a select few to control the many. They basically sell hope. My father in law is a 78 year old fundamentalist baptist preacher. Makes for some interesting family dinners when someone asks me if I want to say grace. I start with..."Oh heavenly bunny rabbit..."

    Working Outside In The Heat

I'm an operator in a chemical plant in Houston, so I know about working in the heat. I took the full 6 weeks off. Felt great after 3 but the doctor wouldn't release me to lift 50 pounds until 6 weeks and that's what my job requires. Hydrate hydrate hydrate. And eat a little something every 2 or 3 hours. You won't have the energy level you once did at first, but at 10 weeks out I already feel way better than I did pre-surgery. My coveralls are already way to big now. My boss offered to order me some smaller ones but I said not yet. It's been too long since I had any extra room in my coveralls to breathe, I want to enjoy it a little while.
  9. Unfortunately some people still associate eating those foods with a "normal" life. And they so associate being disciplined and avoiding junk food altogether with being "on a diet". I think these are food issues that need to be worked on, but not everyone thinks that way. To me feeling "normal" would mean tucking in my shirt and not seeing any rolls of fat, or being able to finish a 10K run... not eating pizza and twinkies everyday "in moderation".

    Squats: Form?

Look up Mark Rippetoe on YouTube. He's an expert on squat form. I could never do squats until I started using his program.
  12. I could not agree more. Trust in your doctor, or get a new one. Follow HIS plan, not someone else's here on the forum. If you want to know how soon you can eat this or that, call your doctor or NUT. Maximize the honeymoon phase. Take full advantage of those months where the weight is going to come off the easiest. Say goodbye to your food crutches before surgery. Eat your way into a healthier lifestyle, don't just eat less.

    Getting Enough To Drink

Check out Propel Zero. It's great stuff. Comes in individual packets of powder that you mix with water. Zero calories, helps to hydrate you and comes in several different favors. You could freeze it like you do the gatorade if you like.

    Dad Almost Died From Sleeve

I just stumbled upon this thread and I am amazed. I'm real glad your father is doing better and I hope it helps others not to give up hope if you have complications in the beginning. Having a good Doctor who will work hard for you is priceless as well. It's also commendable that you did not let your father's complications deter you from having the surgery. As you and others have stated, not having the surgery can have much greater risks. Sounds like your recovery is going flawlessly. Keep us updated on your father's progress.

    Greens And Salads Missing Them

I have some everyday. Wrap my meat up in it like its a tortilla. Had shrimp lettuce wraps last night. It's very filling, but I don't have a problem with it.

Seem To Be Stuck On My Weight :-(

Yes. It could also be fluids. Are you getting in all your fluids? Are you walking as much as possible? You're body is still healing from the surgery. For some people it takes a few more days for your body to go into fat burning mode. But it will. Be patient and don't worry about the scale just yet. Worry about your fluid intake, nutrition (protein) and exercise. The weight will fall off if you do those 3 things. Also, use a tape measure to register your results, it's more gratifying than the scale.

The Top 5 Things You Will Not Miss After Vsg

I won't miss living in a one size fits all world, but the size doesn't fit me.
  20. I do better being strict with myself. Once or twice a week I'll allow myself one bite of what would be considered a treat....a bite of cheesecake, a fried shrimp, an onion ring. The biggest thing for me is I've cut out all starches and simple sugars. No bread, even wheat, no potatoes. I'm trying to eat low glycemic foods only. Eating high glycemic foods causes your body to store more fat, even when you are not eating too many calories. This was always my problem before, I ate so many starches and sugars. I was pre-diabetic. If I didn't eat every 3 hours or so, I got so shaky and irritable. And when that happened it took a lot of food to settle me back down. That's why dieting never worked for me before. The way I'm eating now is easy to maintain. It doesn't feel like a diet. I'm just being more disciplined. I don't need starches anymore to be satisfied. I'm embracing my inner carnivore.
