Sleepy ALL day today
Butterthebean replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It doesn't sound like the kind of thing I'd wait on. I'd give my doc's office a call just to be safe. They will probably schedule you to come in. -
Most nutritionists suggest ingesting some sort of protein very soon after resistance training to prevent your muscles from becoming catabolic. Even if you're not hungry, it might be better to have a small protein shake or some other fast absorbing protein.

It's about a federal Marshall in very rural Kentucky. Kind of a cop show....but the main character kinda has that young Clint Eastwood cool factor. -

I have no answers for you my friend except I'm pretty sure that gall bladder pain is usually on the right side, not the left. So that might possibly rule that out. If you weren't so far post op I might guess leak. Stricture maybe? -

They say running outside is the equivalent of running on the treadmill with the incline set on 2. But depending in where you run, running outside can be much easier thanks to scenery. It can also be harder if the weather conditions are not optimal. Either way it's exercise so do what you feel best doing. But if you're hope is to run a real 5K event, they are all outside, do at some point you have to embrace that. Plus, as you get better and can run longer, you'll want to be outside running along enjoying the scenery and outdoors. Who wants to run 2 hours on a treadmill? -
Keep it up. The better shape you're in going into surgery, the easier your recovery will be. Weight loss is mostly about diet but being healthy takes exercise. You're developing a wonderful new habit that will not only extend your life but improve the quality greatly.

I'm more likely to have a baby bell cheese in my pocket than a quarter. They are good and travel well. -
This post is full of "hot and sexy". I like it. I need to splash some cold Water on my face.

Can you do any cycling or does that not interest you?

If that doesn't workout for you....check out Pocket Fuel. All natural energy gels that are based on nut butters, not sugar. They are kinda like flavored peanut butter. Very tasty and will not give you an insulin spike the way other gels will. I've ordered some online and they came pretty fast. For a long century ride they are a good alternative.

Have you ever done any reading on MAF training (Maximum Aerobic Effort)? Quite a few triathletes and long distance runners use this training method. The basic premise is...you train your body to burn fat rather than glycogen to fuel your long cardio sessions. Even a lean person has way more fat fuel at his disposal than glycogen (carbs). By doing this, you don't need to eat any extra fuel. I've been experimenting with this with my long runs. I did 8 miles the other day on less than 35 carbs for the day. There are loads of people that say you can't do that....but I did and felt great. Now one of the big caveats is you cannot go fast. You have to keep your heart rate below a certain limit (your aerobic threshold). But the more you train like this, the faster you can go without raising your heart rate above the fat burning zone. If your interested check out this link... http://content.bandzoogle.com/users/cippianhotmail/files/Want_Speed_Slow_Down_2007.pdf I should add, when I say you don't need to eat any extra fuel, that's not entirely accurate. You should eat some extra food if you're doing long distance cycling or running...but it doesn't have to be sugar based carbs during the workout. I eat some extra Protein to rebuild muscle after such a long run.

I know the old rule is load up on carbs before working out, but I'm finding that unless you're doing a high intensity workout you don't really need them as much. Think long slow cardio, you don't need any extra glycogen for that. Now if you're doing HIIT or resistance training, then yes. But I would load up on Water before any food. It's way more important.

Stuggling, need help with head hunger!

PEvette....one thing that has helped me with my hunger at this point was raising my fat intake. I was eating high Protein but low everything else. I upped my fat intake with foods like almonds, avocados, whole eggs, milk, EVOO, olives, full fat cheese.....and honestly I felt much better. I think this goes along with what Cheri said above....it helped my diet get more balanced. Out of curiosity, how long has it been since you upped your calories? Many people cannot stay on an extreme calorie reduced diet forever and expect to keep losing. The furnace needs fuel to burn hotter. It may be time to add some fuel to yours. -
