Er Fluids How Long
BenisaMartim4 replied to thewinds's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always had it done in the bariatric clinic, but they keep you from 8 to 5 there. Then you come back the next day and do it again. I have done that 3 times...6 IVs. Sent from my iPhone using VST -
Hmm, my doc told me that I could never take NSAIDs again. He said that our risk of bleeding was too great. Sent from my iPad using VST

Driving A Week After?
BenisaMartim4 replied to katyb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drove within a week. As long as you're not messed up on meds and feel like you can steer fine, I don't see a problem. -

I gained 3# in fluid this week with my cycle, so I didn't know if I would see a loss or not. The fluid did leave though and from Friday to Saturday the scale went down 2 more #. SW 278 CW 262 GW 263 1# below goal, 16# lost. Yay Sent from my iPhone using VST -

Horribly Painful Acid Reflux
BenisaMartim4 replied to Lisa :)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! Yes! Yes! I had it pre-surgery. I have been hospitalized for it. It can get so bad that you will think you are having an heart attack! That is the acid eating it's way through the lining of your esophagus. I ended up with ulcers. If it is this bad, you need and ultra strength PPI and some carafate. Carafate coats the esophagus and stomach and prevents the acid from eroding it. You take it before each meal and at bedtime (4x a day). That stuff is like heaven in a bottle. When you swallow it, it instantly puts out the fire as it runs down. I use this and full Rx strength previcid x 2 a day. Mine is finally under control. Sent from my iPhone using VST -
I have always used a straw. My doc says they just say no straws to try to keep you comfortable (some people gulp too hard and it make them hurt), it is not going to hurt your sleeve. I have never one time had "gas" pain from drinking from a straw. My NUT was ecstatic when I told her that I could drink twice as much in a day if I used a cup with a straw. She said buy a whole box! Everyone is different. You will get to know your sleeve. It is going to be a trial and error thing. Don't stress yourself out. You didn't swallow a bomb..lol. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Dimple/hole/dip Incision On Stomach
BenisaMartim4 replied to pinky62611's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have this, but I have a sister in law that does. She had an ovarian cyst the size of a two liter bottle (full !) removed from her abdomen. They took it out like they did our stomaches. When they stitched her up, her incision fell in with a pit about the size of a tennis ball. All I can figure is that there was nothing there to hold it up any more. The doc was not concerned with it. *shoulder shrug* ? Sent from my iPhone using VST -
I chew and spit all the time. it is mostly because once I get something chewed well enough to swallow, I just can't seem to get it down. A lot of meats do me this way and I usually always end up spitting sometime sweet back out. I don't know why I even put something like that in my mouth anyway. I don't need it and I know it is going to gag me. Everything seems too sweet to me now. I also chew and spit popcorn. The soft part is fine, but I just can't swallow those hulls. Bleck! Bodily Function Post/question..you Have Been Warned!
BenisaMartim4 replied to Piplula's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have dumping syndrome (from not having a gallbladder). My doc thought it would ease up after my surgery, but it didn't (although it is not as common with the sleeve as it is with the by-pass, you can have dumping syndrome). It is not always the case that it is triggered by carbs either. Some people have what is called "over-digestion" and ingestion of ANYTHING can cause dumping. I have it with just water! Some people's bodies adjust over time and some do not. My doc prescribed a drug called Questran. It is a Rx drug that looks like Metimucil. You sprinkle the little packet into a little liquid and swallow it. It thickens on the inside, absorbs some of the digestive juices and slows the exit of contents. I used to go to the restroom as many as 10x a day. If it doesn't ease up for you soon, you might ask for a trial of it. I know what it is like to be afraid to go out. I was that way for years. Hope you get better. -
I had no pain and my soreness was gone in a week. I don't think there really is a norm on this. It depends on your tolerance of pain, the amount of "digging around" they did on your insides, your reaction to being put to sleep and a whole list of other things. I believe the only way to say you are healing normally is to ask yourself "Am I getting a little better every day?" if your answer is "yes", you are probable OK. If it is not, a call to the doc might be in order. Best wishes!

I am 2 1/2 months out and I shoot for 600...and that is a stretch on most days. If you are only eating protein (not junk food) I don't see how in the world you could eat 1500. That would be the equivalent of between 7-14 protein shakes a day. Sounds like some one needs to get their acts together. I hate it when they do things like that to us! Like we need more stress

Try the Laughing Cow cheeses. They are soft and come in several different flavors. You can also put a string cheese in the microwave and melt it. I like that too. -

Today I took 10 skirts and 45 tops, jackets and sweaters, all size 26/28, out of my closet. I had to make room for all the new size 18/20s I got yesterday. Oh yeah, that's right baby! I'm down 5 dress sizes and just less than 70#. Woo-hoo! *happy dance* Sent from my iPhone using VST -

BenisaMartim4 replied to BenisaMartim4's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just so y'all don't feel too bad about me losing my money on clothes; I got to go to a nice church yard sale. Their ladies were fund raising. I bought two garbage bags of very nice clothes for $40. The outfit I have on in the pic cost me a grand total of $3! That included those really cute shoes. I am the savings queen -
