I Feel Like I Have Swallowed A Rock!
BenisaMartim4 replied to BenisaMartim4's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks girls! Y'all are sweeties I'm thinking my book may have more type-os than they noticed and I have made the positive decision that the nurse did my discharge orders wrong. What we were told in our class was each stage was 1 week long, with stage 4 being 4 weeks and stage 5 maintenance. My stage 2 menu has foods in it not mentioned in the foods list. I believe I'll chunk the menus and go by what they suggested in our class...or even slower. My sleeve is extremely tight! This has actually scared the snot out of me. I sure wasn't eating because I wanted it -
Strep Throat And A Cold

Maybe try your tea and then a honey and lemon cough drop.sorry you're sick -
They told us it was because you swallow too much air and it causes excess gas/burping/pooting, you know the whole get up. They also told us no straws or cokes ever again because of the same. But this is not set in stone. If you cruise this site enough, you'll find fifty different surgeons with fifty different opinions. I'm sure that effects of many things vary wildly from person to person. What adult swallows gum by accident anyway? I mean, come on really. I never could even swallow it on purpose, even when caught by the teacher..hehe

Herniating?

I have Anthem BCBS and they will pay for a tummy tuck if: you are 18 months out of surgery and get rashes. They must be photo documented though, so I started taking pics as soon as my VSG was submitted. I didn't want to fight over it like I had to this -

My Gastric Sleeve Story
BenisaMartim4 replied to Vsg021412's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hellosleeve sister! Welcome to the forum it was a great day to be sleeved, wasn't it! Doing well here too. I feel fine, just have a very tight sleeve and it is very hard for me to get anything down. Two sips and it bubbles up in my throat. My intake is very low. Maybe some more swelling will subside in the next couple of days and it will be easier. Best wishes on your end and congrats -
Aww, Pookey im so sorry you're missing your mamaHang in there, hubbie will be home soon. You can make a shout out to us when you need to talk. I know we can't replace them, but at least we know how you feel

Recovery
BenisaMartim4 replied to Billie Jo Brown Alexander's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is a "oh, did I have surgery?" compared to a c-section. It was also much easier than having my gallbladder out laproscopicly. I am out 4 days and have had very, very little discomfort. I have no bruising and have already walked 8miles (leaving my husband tagging along behind). Just know that at first it is VERY difficult to get the fluids in, so be careful that you don't over do it on such a small amount of hydration and nutrition. Hope you are better by then..Best wishes -

Thanks For The Help Family

I was sleeved on 2/14. I have a high tolerance for pain also. The incision part of the procedure have given me no problems. No bruising, only slightly sore, I am getting around great. I have already logged 8 miles walked this week. My sleeve is extremely small though. It is a great struggle to get in the liquids. I have to carry a drink in my hand the entire time I am awake. I do expect it to get better over the next few days as the swelling goes down. Don't get me wrong, when I woke up I was in pain; but the team were on that like white on rice. They made sure I had everything I needed. Now, if you are like me, you are sick of hearing people say "sip, sip, sip" by now; but trust me, it is the truth. A sip is ALL you are going to get down at first. So, don't be surprised. Also something I haven't heard anyone talk about is the weight gain in the hospital. Expect to gain 10# in IV fluids and be grateful for every single one. This gives you a pad between you and dehydration. This way you can have a little time to get to feeling better. Don't worry about those scales at first, THOSE pounds are your friend. I haven't been out that long, so I can't give you much more. Just steel your constitution and you can make it. We will all be here if you need us. -
Hidee-Hoo Everyone! Day Two Post-Op
BenisaMartim4 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm getting ready to go home from the hospital today. I am doing great. No surgical pain or problems to speak of. I logged three miles on the walking track in less than an hour this morning; for a grand total of 6 miles post-surgery. The only thing that has bothered me are esophageal spasms. This is monstrous pain. My doc said mine was worsened by some of the meds I have to take on a regular basis. He told me that it should ease up over the next couple of days (thank God!). I have GREAT restriction. I can barely even sip. My Nae-Nae is a very tight 32 French. I am very pleased, it will just take adjusting to. I have also received some nice gifts while here; an extra large mixed spring bouquet from my mother, a card and bouquet from the youth department of my church and last but absolutely not least, an exquisite SEVEN Diamonds set in white gold ring and a beautiful card from my sweet hubby :0) -
Hi everyone they started my surgery somewhere round 1:30pm yesterday. My inscisions are doing great almost, no pain or swelling. I do have a boat load of the gas trapped under my diaphragm though that we just can't seem to get unstuck. It is causing esophageal spasms that feel like labour pains in the chest. I have cried off and on all night. I didn't even do that when I had a baby natural. We found out that I was allergic to morphine when I crashed and stopped breathing. The veins in my arm looked as if someone had taken a magic marker and traced them. None of the healthcare workers had ever seen anything like it. They swapped my pain killer to Dillodid and put me on Valumn to try to paralyze the spasms. They are keeping me on Zofron 24/7 because the meds make me nauseated. Other than that, Nae-Nae and I are doing just fine. We have walked a mile, used the restroom three times, had two cups of ice and right now we are getting ready to have a leak test. Ill keep everyone posted about my progress. Ps,everyone please over looolk my drunk typing, because I am flying high

Road Trip For 2 Weeks! What To Eat?!
BenisaMartim4 replied to 2bfit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aww, I am proud of you girl. You are doing well under the circumstances. My surgery is Tuesday and my family and in-laws will be taking a vacation when I am 4weeks out. I hope I can do as well. And don't feel too guilty over the nibble, that is the whole point of the sleeve. So you can still eat like a normal person, but in very small controlled portions :0) -

I stay on probiotics full time, because I get them so bad that it melts the skin off like acid. My doc told me that he sends everyone home from the hospital on Diflucan.

6 Weeks Post-Op And Regretting The Surgery
BenisaMartim4 replied to ocean_ophelia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is also a chance that is could be a case of colitis. I have had it twice; once for two months and the other for three. It causes nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhea. It also makes a person weak and lethargic. Might want to get an appointment with the GI doc to be tested for this and H. Pylori. Hope you feel better soon -

Just Got Home Today From Surgery
BenisaMartim4 replied to readyforachange's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a c-section with my first baby and weighed 35 pounds more the day after he was born. Counting what he and the birth contents weighed, that means that I gained 50+ pounds of fluid in one day. I was ungodly swollen, but I had taken it all back off before he was two weeks old. The doc told me that that was not unusual for everything that I had been through. So don't worry. You will take that extra back off in no time. Then you can get on with the business of being a big loser -
How Does Surgeon Take Out The Excised Portion Of Stomach?
BenisaMartim4 replied to Bubbaloo10's topic in The Lounge
It is removed through one of the larger metal tubes placed in your stomach. Go to YouTube and search "Vertical Sleeve Gasterectomy". You can watch a video of the surgery being done. It is explained as they go through each step. -
February 2012 Surgery Dates- Who's Ready?
BenisaMartim4 replied to Dooter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey, hey, hey everyone! I'm just now getting up the nerve to look for the Feb. Group. I was originally scheduled for Dec., but because of ins. Problems was canceled. Now I am for sure on goi am scheduled for 2/14/12 in Tupelo, MS (the birthplace of Elvis) at the North Ms Medical Center. Dr. Terry Pinsky will be doing my procedure. It took the ins. 15 weeks to approve me after my 3 month weight management program. I am very excited about having a new life, but at the same time I am also nervous. After all, I do have a husband and four children. -
