  1. Hit 40 pounds since surgery today - so thankful I did this!!

  2. Thank you so much for your perspective and advice! Such a positive role model for those of us with newer sleeves. Congratulations on your success! :-) Jen
  3. A friend of mine told me I am starting to look like my 11 year old daughter - I was on cloud 9 for days!! :-)
  4. I had my surgery at a Military hospital, and I would say this - I would rather have my husband always home safely and not being shot at overseas than have had my surgery covered by Tricare. I think the Gov't gets off pretty cheap for what we give them in return!! And you are absolutely right, Cheri... I will be much cheaper for them to treat for the next 50 years when I am no longer obese! PS - (You are doing amazing! Congrats!)
  5. Thank you SO much for sharing your story! I am reinspired and motivated by your exercise routine alone!! :-) You are a great success story - I hope mine is similar to yours 10 months from now! Jen xoxoxo
  6. I am just about 8 weeks out, and this week started noticing a lot more hair in the comb every morning. Hoping that my vitamins and healthy diet will keep the hair loss to a minimum! Gah!

    Popcorn safe to eat?

This is SO interesting to me - my surgeon told me NO popcorn or corn of any kind - EVER AGAIN. I love popcorn, so this and no Diet Coke were the things that I was worried about giving up. So far I don't miss them as much as I thought I would. :-) It is so fascinating to me how vastly different his instructions have been from those I have read on here. It makes me feel good to know that he is VERY conservative, but it is also reassuring to know that if I sip Water with a straw or have a few pieces of popcorn someday, it won't kill me. I love the things I learn on this forum! Jen
  8. I too stayed in the hospital an extra night (3 all together) due to struggling with the anesthesia and vomiting. After I got home, I felt much better and every day got better and better. Just support her in following her surgeon's instructions and she will heal very well. I am almost 8 weeks out right now and feel 100% healed - better than ever in fact! :-) Jen

    Holy acne!

I am nearly 8 weeks post op and have had crazy acne since the surgery. I thought maybe it was because i quit taking the BCpill before surgery, but it doesn't seem like a normal monthly breakout to me at all. It's worse and constant. Hope it is a phase and goes away?!?!? Gah! Jen

    15 pounds?

I had a 2 week long stall between 2 and 4 weeks after surgery, and then it's been pretty steady between 2 and 4 pounds lost a week since then. I know it was discouraging, but we just dont lose as fast as bypass patients, and we have to give ourselves time to heal and adjust to our new normal. You are already doing great!!! Be patient with yourself and your sleeve, and in a few more weeks you will be much happier with your results - at 7 weeks out I feel like a new woman! I kept telling myself... no matter whether I am discouraged or not, my stomach is tiny now, and I have no choice but to eat way less than I was before - forever! It will happen, and we have the rest of our lives to make it happen! Good luck! Jen

    3 month follow-up

You are doing great! Our starting weights are very similar. I had my 6 week follow up today and am feeling fantastic. Can't wait to get down where you are now!! Onederland is so close for you! Yay! I never thought of the medic alert bracelet - that is a great question! I'd love to know what your doc says! Keep up the great work!! Jen PS - I never get a flu shot

    Dinner @ Chili's

I share meals with my daughter too! I usually order some Soup and just pick at hers or my husbands' meal - lol. Or I order an actual entree and take most of it home - love it!! I also am noticing that my tiny 8 year old eats more than I do these days - crazy! I actually think I have had dumping after eating anything too sweet or rich - It's a powerful motivator!! :-) Jen
  13. I think you all are doing great! I am 7 weeks out and down 29 pounds - which I am thrilled about! I knew I would lose slower than bypass patients, so I am trying to be patient, and just enjoy that the scale is LOWER every week. I have had my moments of HURRY UP SCALE, but I am FEELING so good that I tell myself to relax and enjoy the process. Good luck to all of you! :-) Jen

when will these spasms go away?

I had those during weeks 1 and 2 after surgery, and they were awful!! The eventually went away, and now (6 weeks out) I only feel anything remotely similar if I eat too much, which I try VERY hard not to do. I think it was my stomach responding to the trauma, and as it healed it felt better. Good luck! :-) Jen

    HELP! STEROIDS!!

I have been suffering from plantar fasciitis for several years. The only thing that really helped me was daily doses of Naprosyn (which I am no longer taking since being sleeved) and daily icing of my feet. I keep frozen Water bottles in my freezer and roll my feet on them nearly every night - it really helps the inflammation. I was also given a bunch of stretches, which helped as well. I was given the steroids as well, but never took them, because at the time I had several social events to attend where I HAD to fit in my dress - lol. In three years, the pain has never really gone away, but since being sleeved, losing 25 pounds, and eating MUCH healthier, the pain has diminished quite a bit. That is my experience with it - I recommend ice and stretching - it really helps! Good luck! Jen

    8 mos out, pics

You guys are doing and looking great!! Congratulations! :-)
  17. I have been having fresh mozzarella for a snack! Usually about two slices, and I drizzle balsamic vinegar over them - yum! I am 6 weeks out, and this snack leaves me feeling very full, and has protein! Good luck, Jen
  18. Great advice! I have a 3rd grader too (and a 7th grader) and I explained everything to them in detail. They were VERY understanding and supportive. Now we are 5 weeks out and they are saying things like, "Mom it's so great that you have so much more energy!" I am sure they will understand, and in a month or two you'll all be totally back in the swing of things. :-) Good Luck! Jen

    3 weeks 2 days out

Congrats Sue! You are doing great! I had my surgery 6 days before you, and am currently stalled at a 19 pound loss. I totally know how you fet the first week - I would watch tv and think "How can all these people have normal stomachs and not be fat and get to eat lots for fun, and I can't??" I think I am over these feelings now though... I had 30 years to eat whatever i wanted, and it just made me fat and unhealthy! I have been to several social functions in the last 2 weeks, and not eating hasn't been a problem for me so far. I know I will still have some demons to face as far as eating issues go, though. Keep up the great work!! :-) Jen
  22. Great success story!! Thank you for sharing!! Congrats, and keep up the great work!! Jen
  23. And there are a few others as well. Good luck with the process! I thought it was pretty easy, all things considered. :-)

  24. Hi Tabbi! I got my referral in April, and had surgery in August. I think you can make the process go a little faster, if you are aggressive and make all your appointments back to back. I was driving down to Ft. Carson (45 min!) twice a week in June to try to get everything done. As soon as they start putting referrals in the system, you can schedule them: wellness (2x), psych (3x), nutrition (3x)
