Well, I was hoping to be one the December or January bandster wagon but unfortunately I received news yesterday that I have cancer. Papillary Thyroid Cancer to be exact. I'm going to be having surgery to remove my thyroid and any thyroid tissue as well as some lymph nodes and whatever else the tissue could be touching. I am pretty devastated by this news but at least I stopped crying. I hear it isn't so bad. And since it is my thyroid I was wondering if that is why I have a weight issue and fatigue and stuff and my doctor said no. But that makes absolutely no sense to me since the thyroid controls pretty much everything having to do with metabolism and hormones. But the weight issue should really be the least of my worries. Now I have to find a thyroid surgeon to get this thing going ASAP. It's weird, one day I'm a perfectly healthy 29 year old and the next I am a cancer patient. It feels unreal and shocking. Hopefully it will work out in my favor and I will lose alot of weight once this has been taken care of. And if not, I will be back with a veangance! LOL thanks to everyone for being so awesome and helpful with all of my questions and giving such great advice....you really are a great group of people! <3

I think it depends on your Cardiologist - I already had an EKG and had to wear a monitor for something unrelated so all my cardio needed was the treadmill....all doctors are different - they require different things for a preop clearance
-
i know!! for both of them it will be 400 dollars!!!

Im having a giant problem finding someone who will do a clearance for this. Most psychologists dont do clearances and all the nutrionists just try to convince me not to do it....has anyone from Long Island had the surgery and has a psych or Nutritionist they can reccomend that will do it just for a clearance?
So frustrated!!!!

i would love to be FB friends with you guys also but do you guys make your surgery known? Id like to keep mine on a need to know basis so i wouldnt want anything written on my wall about it....but it would be cool to just message and become acquaintences.

Welcome! My consult was October 12th and i got notification that they are already running it through the approval process for insurance. Eventhough I still have some clearances to get for my surgeon. Im looking into a December 27th Date!

well, i can tell you that Dr. Holovers office makes the approval process quick - they told me that approval can go through in as little as 2 weeks. so that leaves you some time to decide...i have Emblem Comprehealth but im switiching to GHI in January but the approval time is the same for Comprehealth anyway - so basically if you stick with your doctor you will have to pay 600 dollars every year?

Hey Skinny, do you have Emblem GHI?

i was just saying - the comments on it - were cruel - and im excited to not have to be subjected to those (soon) and how im glad im not telling anyone because of the judgements...

Can I tell you...for me, Its because of jealousy and the fact I cant face my own disappointments in myself. My best friend, who has been my best friend since we were 9...started weight watchers in january - shes lost about 40 pounds...and i notice...i never say anything...because it reminds me of how much of a failure i am - she has seen me lose and gain and lose and gain...this was her first attempt at changing her lifestyle. How come she can do it and I cant? I am jealous of her. So much so that i cant bare to hang out with her. Because looking at her makes me think about how I want to be in her shoes so badly....I want those things...maybe its me being caddy. I dont know. But thats why i dont say anything....and I hate myself for it - because she deserves to hear it...and I just cant do it because it kills me inside.

GMA has a story about a woman losing 131 pounds from the sleeve - now i know this is the lap band forum but all of the rules still apply and it takes just as much work - i provided the link below for you to read the article....and if you have time read some of the comments....after reading some of them i am very happy with my decision to keep my surgery quiet and away from judgement

Well I do know how bad all that stuff is...I graduated From culinary school as a pastry chef.....you can only imagine!! Lol

i dont think that the band will help me with that area but im always hungry...and i go straight for the candy - candy is my absolute weakness - everyone has theirs and this is mine - one piece...no way ....it keeps going and going and going...especially the kit kat - that chocolately crunch gets me everytime!! aaaand the worst part is, i did get it out of my house - i brought it to work - just like everyone else did...and you know whats so funny? everyone brings their candy to work and still eats it!!! you might as well just leave it home LOLOLOLOLOL
i just want to feel satisfied enough not to want it....
-
Thats how I feel right now as I sit at my desk eating Halloween candy....cant wait until this process is over and I get the band...going crazy over here!!! Cant stop eating.....im either hungry or full - no in between
-
Hi Havent gotten my band yet but so far the experience has been great - Dr. Holover is so nice and the staff is helpful. They are always cordial when answering my zillions of questions!

Does anyone know if Emblem GHI covers fills?
Right now I have comprehealth - a division of HIP and i am having the surgery in december (hopefully) but in january i am switching to GHI and I was just wondering if they cover the fills...the do cover weight loss surgery

I totally get that. But how do I deal when I'm just so hungry it was painful?? I was at work and literally starving. I understand alot of the time it is in your head but what about when u are truly hungry and can't eat real food because of preop? What do u do then?

Thanks everyone! I won't be able to have my surgery until January. Right now I'm researching surgeons that specialize in this. I will be having my entire thyroid removed as well as some lymph nodes and whatever else the cancerous tissue is touching. All of my blood work and hormone levels came back normal so I was very confused as to why this was happening... Until I had an ultrasound and all of that. I really am
Hoping that after it is removed I won't need WLS in the end and the weight will just naturally level
Where it is supposed to be but I'm not sure if that will happen. Thanks so much for all the support!
