    To the newbies

Sorry that you keep throwing up. I have had mine for over 3 years and from time to time I still can throw up. One day I can eat something and then the next it doesn't work so well. Weather can affect me, humidity, heat and such. You might be banded to tight if you can't eat anything without it coming back up. Eating slow really does help, I try to avoid distraction so I can chew my food well and take small bites. Good luck to you.
  2. For me it does stop me from overeating. If I were to eat to much I would be so miserable. As I got closer to my green zone u became less interested in food and just see it as fuel now. I don't enjoy eating like I used to because I can't gorge myself and I choose things to eat things that give me most nutritional value in a lot smaller quantities. I eat now because I have to! Great placf to be at finally.

    Feeling Yucky After You Eat

I felt sick for about a week after surgery and did not want to eat. You did have surgery so you are healing. After about a week I started slowly getting my appetite back.

    Canned Chicken/tuna Ideas?

A great recipe is to the chicken a dry packet of Italian dressing, cream cheese and a can of cream mushroom soup. I put in crockpot and of course you can use lower fat versions of soup and cream cheese so not as much calories.

    Carbonated Drinks

I can't drink any carbonated beverages it almost makes me feel something is stuck and very burpy. I drank a little after surgery here and there but as my band had more and more fills I couldn't tolerate the bubbly stuff. Also I can't drink beer anymore for the same reason, I do miss a nice craft ale.
  6. Believe me you will know. I have had my mouth start to Water and then it comes back up. You can feel a pain in your chest, or just feel uncomfortable and can't eat anymore.

    hamburgers, I want one bad!

I have been banded for 1 1/2 yrs. and haven't really eaten burgers because it hasn't been successful when I have. Finally the other day I wanted a grilled burger. I added breadcrumbs and egg to hamburger and seasonings, this way it kept it moist and I could eat with no problems and no bun.

    Have You Tried???

My philosophy is you can eat anything you want but in moderation. I don't deprive myself if I crave something, but you just eat a lot less of it. After awhile of being banded I eat for nutrition. Somedays it is hard to eat a well balanced diet because I am not hungry so that is what I strive to do everyday. Good Luck!!! Banded 12/11 Weight loss 65lbs 10 more to go

    Constantly Tired..

I have had the same thing and also have 3 kids. I believe it is from not enough intake of calories. When I am not eating enough I am tired. I try hard to eat enough and even starting taking protein shakes to boost calories. I also take vitamin supplements, you can take all the supplements in the world but if you calories are low you can not make through a day and will be tired, sorry.
  12. I had my TT done 2 weeks ago. Had a pain pump so that helped a lot. I have not thought the recovery was a breeze. Hard to sleep at night, can't walk around to much. Am hoping the results are worth all of this. No more cosmetic surgery for me. Mine cost $7,000 in upper Midwest.
  13. I had a TT on th 10th, it was 5lbs taken off. It is my 2wks today since surgery feeling better but a lot tougher recovery then anticipated. Kudos to you that have done more then one procedure, I don't think I could do another.
  14. 13 months since banded, time flies. I am now down 70lbs. 15-20 more till goal. I had a TT on the 10th and recovering from that. I have always carried weight in my belly area and never had elastic skin after pregnancies. It has been a tough recovery but the results are well worth it. It is great to see how everyone is doing and I feel bad hearing some of your stories who have had hernias, band slippage etc. the Lap band surgery and TT surgery have been tough enough I can't imagine going through more.

    New Bandster

I have found since you can't eat very much at one sitting I need to eat every 2-3 hrs. You can't just eat 3 meals anymore. I was also told not to eat stringy veggies, such as celery. I do eat carbs, but I eat alot less of them so I think they are fine. Everything in moderation.

Tomorrow I am actually getting a tummy tuck done. After having 3 kids they did a number on my body and I never had elastic skin. ha I have lost my weight very slow about 2-4lbs. per month, but I do have excees skin I think from my pregnancies. Good Luck with your journey.

You Say The Band Didn't Work

I have had people see me lose weight and now think they should do it, they think it is an easy fix. I was very dedicated to this and knew it would not be the easy road. I am so happy I have my band and am down 55lbs. in 1 year. If someone is unhappy with it and it is not working maybe they are just thinking of it as an easy fix, you still have to put in the work. Exercise and eating better, I have used it as a tool to not overeat and of course I can't eat fast. So happy, feel bad for the negative nelly, hope she gets the help she needs.
  18. My negatives would be that I love to sleep on my stomach, my port is on my left side and I can't lay on my left side anymore. It is just uncomfortable and I concur with the stomach gurgling. I notice it at night mostly when my life is quiet. Of course if you eat to fast, or don't chew properly you can upchuck, ha. With 55lbs. down in a year I am very happy with my choice.
  19. When you need a fill was different for me all the time. I based it on my portions. If I could eat a lot more food or would get hungry between meals then I knew it was time for a fill. Sometimes I would be filled and it would be good for 2 months and even longer. Good Luck

    Have I Plateaued Already?

I lose on average about 2-4lbs. per month. It was 1yr. since banded in December and have lost a total of 55lbs. It is slow, but very normal and healthy weight loss. Usually before my fills I would not lose any weight and then get a fill and start losing again. You just started the journey, just focus on your eating right now and adjusting to the difference in how you have to eat. The weight will come off, look at me, very slow but coming off.
  21. So sorry for all your problems. I was banded in December 2010 and it took me 8 months to get to that sweet spot they talk about. I had the opposite experience and was filled during surgery, which caused restriction right away and then my first fill the surgeon overfilled me causing me to not even be able to drink a sip of water for 24hrs. So then un-filled totally for 3 wks. to start all over again. When I started to get fills again it took a couple months and then I started to lose about 2llbs. per month average. Not alot but consistent. I eat about the same I did before, but very much smaller portions. I feel full and satisfied now and don't really need to snack in between meals. I of course can't eat everything I used to. More moisture rich foods seem the way to go. I can eat Prime Rib and marinated meats, chicken, if at all dry don't work. Small bits and chew, chew chew and take your time. During the day when my kids are gone I do really well, but during busy time with kids and family you tend to eat fast and that doesn't work for me at all. So these are just some things I have learned that work for me. I know I can never eat like I did before and I have to slow down and concentrate on my eating. I can't unconsciously eat like I used to, I get things stuck that way or throw up. Good Luck to you and hope things start looking up . d to
  22. I had my surgery on December 2010. I too have 3 kids, 15, 8 &6. I was known as a stress eater, unconscious eater, and of course over eater. This surgery has really been a godsend for me. I have lost weight in the past, but always seem to lose the excitement into the journeys and would regain the weight. The Lap-Band has not been an easy way out. If I do not eat slow, chew well, and pick the right things, I am miserable, pain in my chest and/or vomit. If I do the right things when eating , I get full fast, eat very small portions, and feel very satisfied in between meals. It took about 8 months after my surgery to get to that sweet spot with my fill in my lap-band. I now have been losing weight consistently and feel really good. If I try to unconsciously eat, I have a reminder always that I get full fast. I cannot over eat, would just be miserable and almost impossible. I am very happy decision and glad that this little reminder is in place for the long haul. Good Luck!
  23. I have never posted before. I had my surgery in December of 2011. 50lbs. down so far. My only problems with the band have been eating of course. Some days I can eat a variety of foods and then others I am pretty limited. I just have to eat very slow and chew of course very well. I am looking forward to get some ideas of what others eat day to day. Look forward to being a regular here and reading up on everyone's journey.
