Congrats on the loss! I'm definitely keeping wheelchairs and layovers in mind for traveling home. ~Kat
  2. LOL!! You're so close!!

    Getting opinions...

That was my criteria, too. No transfers in the event of a complication or emergency and the leak testing could be done on site. ~Kat

    Almost there...

Congrats!! It'll be here before you know it. ~Kat

    at newark airport

I chose Tijuana, even though it's a much longer trip, because it was difficult for me to find information about doctors in Cancun when I started researching over a year ago. I think that is why many people opt for doctors in Tijuana; Medical Tourism seems to be more established and it's easier to find information. Having said that, I know there are a couple of people who there have opted for Cancun fairly recently and had great experiences. I know dr. sergio verboonen practices out of both Cancun and Tijuana and have seen posts from his patients. I'm not remembering others off the top of my head, but you might get more information if you were to post a new topic asking for information and reports for Cancun specifically. ~Kat

    I made it

Yay!! Glad you are feeling ok. ~Kat
  7. I don't think it's that far of a stretch to hope! We will see, in another few weeks. ~Kat
  8. I'm so hopeful that I'm like you and just have the gas pain. Since I've had several laprascopic surgeries before, I'm hoping that makes it a little easier, too. And my gallbladder is long gone, so no worries there! ~Kat
  9. Thank you so much for the pics of the hospital and hotel!! You crack me up. I can't wait to get there, now. ~Kat
  10. got me. Actually, it was less procrastination and more hoping I'd get an awesome deal on plane tickets. Anyhow, when I looked at plane tickets today they had doubled in price. Ack!! I called my surgeon's office right away and we decided it was best to just push surgery out for a week. I also found out that I'll be having surgery at florence Hospital rather than Mi Doctor. I haven't read too much yet, so not sure if that's a good thing or just a neutral thing. So...I'll be headed out on 3/28 with surgery on 3/29 with Dr. Illan. It actually works out better this way, as my best friend will be able to come stay with my son while I'm gone. ~Kat
  11. Yay!! I'm glad time has passed pretty quickly after you getting snowed in. I hope it's uneventful and keep us updated, as much you feel up to! ~Kat

    What do I pack?!?!

I'm a dress kind of girl, anyway, so I'll likely pack a couple of maxi dresses, a pair of yoga pants, and a couple of tank tops. Maxi dresses are my favorite to travel in, anway....stylish and comfy. Oh, and I am cold natured, so my little black sweater will be with me, as always. I've seen a ton of great advice here and GAMom reiterated how much she has used her Gas X strips (they don't have them available in Mx), so I've added them to my must-have list. I'm fitting it all into a single carry on and a large purse-type bag. My best friend is going with me and she's a pretty good packer, so we won't have to wait for checked luggage when we land. ~Kat

    I DID IT!

That's awesome!! WTG! Are you leaving on Tuesday or doing same day travel and surgery? I can't believe it's mid-March already!! ~Kat

    Just got to San diego

So glad that you are feeling a little better today! ~Kat
  17. Aww...I'm so glad you're hanging in there. Although it's a really tough thing, I know I will feel more regret for not having gone and done it, if I cancel. I hope that you can find some strength. It's not too far off and then she will be so happy to have a mommy that can be active with her. ~Kat

    Today is my BIG day

    Good luck!! ~Kat
  19. I wasn't going to tell work the reason I am taking time off. I have told only my closest friends and 3 of my 6 siblings that I'm having the sleeve. Today, my boss asked why I was so set on having the particular days off that I requested. It's a neighboring county's school spring break, so apparently, I'm not the only one who asked for the time off. I gave the bare minimum for details...just said I'm having fairly routine abdominal surgery. My boss mentioned I might want to tell HR, just to cover my bases, since it's a medical need for the time off. I'd rather not if I don't have to, since I'm using vacation days vs any sort of leave. Did anyone have their employer request documentation for time off they took for their surgery? At this point, I doubt HR will ask for anything since I'm not asking for anything other than vacation days I've already got on the books...but I want to be prepared, just in case. Also...it's not that it's a secret, just something I'd rather keep private for now, ya know? I feel like I've failed (clearly) at every other attempt to lose weight, I just want the chance to do this one thing with as few people scrutinizing me as possible. ~Kat

    Telling work

That's a good idea. I actually had a hernia repair a couple of years ago and have had other laparascopic surgeries for endometriosis, so it's not like it's outside the realm of my experience. I work from home, so it's not like I will need a release to go back to work. I'm really hoping the initial question will be the end of it. I know people have varying opinions about telling or not, and I respect that, I just am choosing to not really share a ton of information right now. Who knows what I'll decide later. ~Kat

    Rohler1520's thread

Try not to obsess about it, CIndySC. You won't really be able to get a plan together until you find out where your next gate is in Atlanta. When you are done with the first leg and have landed in Atlanta, you should be able to find either a departure/arrival screen that shows you which gate your next leg is at or there is almost always airline personnel that can tell you which gate your next flight is at. If you find that you are short on time, the airline personnel can also help you get to your next gate quickly via cart or whatever. It has been my experience that Atlanta is pretty easy to navigate, although it's very large. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it! ~Kat
  22. I am not really familiar with that type of plan, but am guessing it would be based on the plan's definition of "necessary". In the plan handbook or coverage information, do they outline their definition? That's the first place I'd look, if you aren't ready to talk to your husband's employer yet. ~Kat
